Chapter 495 The Terrifying Snake

Su Hua glanced up at the boy and caught a glimpse of the unease in his eyes. She felt a little strange; he had seemed a bit odd when they were eating noodles that morning.

Thinking of this, he turned around and smiled at the person behind him.

"Qingdai, you and Dalang and Erlang take the food sent by the Liu family back to the kitchen and share it with your sister and the others."

In Shanghe Village, after major events such as weddings and funerals, the host family usually sends some food to the guests to take back to the villagers who were unable to attend.

The Liu family's thirty-table banquet was all prepared by the town's top chef. While the dishes weren't exactly amazing, they had their own unique flavor. Liu Jinhua was very hospitable and gave everyone a portion of each dish, filling two large food trays.

"Yes, Miss," Qingdai replied, bowing respectfully.

Upon hearing the sound, Su Dalang and Su Erlang glanced at the two of them simultaneously before slowly stepping over the threshold and following Qingdai toward the kitchen. Halfway there, they couldn't help but secretly turn their heads to look back, but they could no longer be seen at the doorway.

Deep within the orchard in the front yard, Su Hua looked at the person who had hurriedly pulled her along and couldn't help but chuckle. "Third Brother, have you been waiting for me all day? Is there something important you want to tell me?"

"Nothing can be hidden from Hua'er."

The boy scratched his head awkwardly. "Third Brother wanted to tell Hua'er that he was going to the Zhenbei Camp."

"Where to? Zhenbei Camp?" Su Hua was completely confused. She knew about Zhennan Camp, since Xiao Jinhan, Yu Feng, and Yu Yu both came from there, but she had never heard of Zhenbei Camp. Zhennan was in the south, so could Zhenbei be north of Yu the Great...?

Halfway through her thought, she suddenly realized something was amiss. "Third Brother, why would you suddenly want to go to the military camp?"

About half a month ago, he mentioned wanting to go to the military camp because of Liang Siyu's entanglement. However, he was severely beaten by Su Baishi and sent to Tangshan Prefecture. She hadn't heard him mention it since, so she thought he had given up on the idea.

In the center of the lush fruit tree canopy, a young girl in a crimson dress leans against a branch, resting with her eyes closed. Her eyelids open slightly, and her scarlet pupils reflect the shadows of the tree, shimmering with the beauty mark under her eye socket.

Su Sanhu shook his head. "It wasn't sudden. Third Brother didn't want to waste his days at home and always wanted to go out and make his own way in the world."

The reason we went to Zhenbei Camp was because Third Brother had heard that Beiming was suffering from a severe drought this year, and the Beiming people were frequently harassing the border like hyenas. Entering Zhenbei Camp meant the fastest path to advancement.

Su Hua was stunned for a moment, but after hearing the last part, her thoughts changed slightly. "Third Brother, you heard about the Beiming matter from Zichen?"

"Yes." Su Sanhu nodded honestly, and then added repeatedly, "However, it was I who asked Brother Jinhan last night, and he told me that my desire to go to the military camp has nothing to do with Brother Jinhan, so Hua'er, don't be angry with him."

Upon hearing this, Su Hua immediately understood that this guy had been plotting this for a long time.

He sighed inwardly, "Why am I angry with him! Has Third Brother already decided to go to the Zhenbei Camp?"

"Yes, Brother Jinhan has made all the arrangements for me. We can set off tomorrow morning." Su Sanhu nodded, looking slightly embarrassed. "However, I'm worried that Mother won't agree, so I'd like Hua'er to come with me later and say a few words on my behalf if necessary."

Su Hua raised her eyes, her almond-shaped eyes glancing towards the courtyard gate. "I might not be able to help Third Brother with this?"

“What…” Su Sanhu paused, instinctively turning around in the direction of her gaze—

But then, Su Baishi was standing at the corner of the courtyard gate, holding an empty basin.

The boy's eyes widened suddenly, and his bottom began to ache involuntarily. He had seen his mother deliver the mushrooms to Mudskipper's house, but how could she have returned so quickly? "Mother!! When did you get back?"

Su Bai's expression remained calm as she simply asked in a low voice, "Why did you go to the military camp? Was it because of Liang Siyu?"

"No, it has nothing to do with her. My relationship with her is all in the past." Without even thinking, Su Sanhu shook his head vigorously, his heart pounding wildly.

If she had hit him with a shoehorn, he would have felt more at ease. But her calm reaction was completely baffling.

Su Bai paused for a moment, then said, "Come with me."

After saying that, she carried the empty basin to the backyard. Su Sanhu watched her figure disappear from sight in an instant, and he dared not delay any longer. Fortunately, he had prepared in advance and wore an extra layer, so he could withstand the beating!

Su Hua thought for a moment, then turned on her toes and went out to the wooden house on the other side of the river.

Halfway there, they saw a tall figure standing under a willow tree on the riverbank. The man's moon-white robe fluttered in the wind. He turned his head, and his jade-like face was even more handsome than a painting. "Hua'er is here."

Su Hua stopped in her tracks. "Did Zichen know I was coming?"

The man shook his head, a slight smile playing on his lips. "I don't know, I'm just guessing."

Seeing his expression, Su Hua decided to get straight to the point, "Zichen, Third Brother just told me about his trip to the Zhenbei Camp. I'd like to know, are Beiming and Dayu about to go to war?"

She knew nothing about what was happening in the military camp; even Bei Ming was hearing about it for the first time. The only one who knew the intricacies of it all was the man in front of her.

“Yes.” Xiao Jinhan nodded. “Since the beginning of summer this year, the drought in Beiming has been particularly severe, and war is inevitable. His Majesty also intends to teach Beiming a lesson this time. The three tigers’ journey is fraught with both danger and opportunity.”

But Hua'er, don't worry, I will send people to secretly protect Sanhu and make sure he is safe.

Upon hearing this, Su Hua pondered for a while and said, "I trust Zichen to handle things."

However, this is the path Third Brother chose himself. He wants to grow and achieve something, and he can endure the hardships and shed the blood that are necessary, as long as... as long as his life is protected in times of crisis.
