Chapter Forty-Nine
"To compromise myself would be to betray my father's teachings."
Zhou Mo shrugged, looking completely indifferent. "Stop talking nonsense. Either I call the police, or you leave."
Her gaze swept over Zhou Yun and the others' faces. Even though her expression remained calm, her heart was inevitably stirred.
Why is it that every time her life starts to improve, all sorts of things happen one after another, leaving her constantly in a state of coping and stress?
These people who claim to be doing it for her own good are stabbing her in the heart with every word they say. Aren't Chinese people supposed to be reserved in their love? How come Chinese people's hatred is so naked?
Zhang Xing was speechless after being confronted by Zhou Mo, and an eerie silence fell over the room once again.
Zhou Mo couldn't wait any longer, so she picked up her phone and dialed 110 in front of everyone.
Upon seeing this, Qian Zhiwei immediately rushed over and grabbed Zhou Mo's hand. This time, Yu Xi stood still and did not stop him. "Zhou Mo, let's go. We won't bother you anymore. We were inconsiderate this time. Aren't you about to start school? Take a good rest recently and don't overthink it."
Qian Zhiwei pulled Zhou Yun towards the door. Zhou Yun was initially reluctant, but Qian Zhiwei, who had never raised his voice to Zhou Yun in his life, suddenly yelled, "Do you have to ruin your son's life like you did before you're satisfied?!"
Because of those words, Zhou Yun seemed to have lost her soul, letting Qian Zhiwei pull her along like a walking corpse.
"Brother Zhang, could you help me support my son?"
Zhang Xing was actually unwilling, but since Qian Zhiwei had lowered his stance so much, he couldn't say anything. So he went over and helped Qian Hao up. Qian Hao was terrified and didn't dare to say anything, his body trembling.
With the four people gone, the room finally quieted down.
Zhou Mo remained in the same position as when she called the police. Yu Xi looked at her for a while, then took the phone from her hand. This action also took away all of Zhou Mo's hostility and defensiveness. She slumped in the chair, her eyes vacant, staring at the clock not far away.
Yu Xi raised her hand and covered Zhou Mo's eyes. "Don't stare like that, it's too tiring for your eyes."
My palms are wet.
Yu Xi's heart skipped a beat.
"I'm so tired."
"Go to bed early tonight. I've downloaded some educational games for you on your iPad to help you pass the time, as well as your favorite music and movies, all pre-downloaded and cached. It shouldn't be too boring on the train. If you're going to sleep, remember to keep an eye on your bag and put it on the inside side..."
Zhou Mo grabbed Yu Xi's wrist and slowly lowered his hand. Yu Xi met Zhou Mo's red eyes, her eyes were moist, and a tear was hanging on her lower eyelashes. Yu Xi probably wouldn't refuse anything Zhou Mo said in this state.
I really want to take you with me.
"I'm waiting for you to take me with you."
Zhou Mo rubbed her head against Yu Xi's palm. Yu Xi squatted down, her gaze level with Zhou Mo's, and wiped away the tear with her thumb. "I hope you won't force yourself. You should know that I'm not that great. If you realize that your efforts and rewards are not equal, you should choose to give up."
Zhou Mo answered him with her actions.
She hugged Yu Xi.
The voice entered his heart through his left ear, pulsating slowly in rhythm with Zhou Mo's speech: "I know you're not a good person, but in my eyes, you're an impeccable family member."
"I'm willing to be your family for life."
Three days later.
Yu Xi's weekly test scores were sent to Zhou Mo's phone.
At that time, Zhou Mo and her new roommate were on their way to the cafeteria. The sun was blazing, making it hard to open their eyes. Seeing Zhou Mo smiling happily while staring at her phone, her new roommate couldn't help but ask curiously, "Zhou Mo, do you have a boyfriend?"
Zhou Mo: "No."
So you have someone you're flirting with?
Zhou Mo's new roommate, Fan Nannan, is a girl who loves gossip and following celebrities. Just like her high school deskmate, she had already figured out all the famous people in each department of their school within just a few days of the start of the semester, including their love history, family background, and popularity. She even created a public account specifically for people to browse.
"No, I'm not considering dating." Zhou Mo put her phone back in her pocket.
Fan Nannan's eyes darted around, and she tightened her grip on Zhou Mo's arm. "Why don't you date? University is such a wonderful time, it's meant to be spent dating. Once you graduate, dating becomes a very difficult thing. Oh, no, you're so pretty, dating should be easy for you. Zhou Mo, you must have had a lot of crushes in high school, right?"
No, not at all.
Fan Nannan waved her hand, "Don't be modest. You're a beauty anywhere. You have no idea how many men and women have looked at you along the way."
"Maybe they're watching you."
"I don't have that much charm."
Zhou Mo glanced at Fan Nannan. Although Fan Nannan wasn't very tall, she was very cute. Plus, she knew how to dress herself up and went for a cute style. She hopped around like a little rabbit, making her very adorable at first glance. "No, you're very cute. I saw you on the street and I'll look at you."
Fan Nannan swallowed subconsciously, "Zhou Mo, you wouldn't be..."
"Stop, it's just appreciation, it has nothing to do with sexual orientation."
Upon hearing this, Fan Nannan hugged Zhou Mo's arm even tighter. This beauty was popular with both men and women. She wondered how wonderful Zhou Mo's four years of university life would be. She estimated that during those four years, the number of people who wanted to pursue Zhou Mo would exceed two hands.
The phone in Zhou Mo's pocket vibrated again. She thought it was a message from Yu Xi, but when she opened it, it was from Qi Xiao. She sent a photo of the cafeteria location, and Zhou Mo replied that she would be there soon.
As soon as Fan Nannan entered the cafeteria, all she could see were people, people packed together, people crammed together, so much so that even turning around while getting food meant risking the food on her tray being eaten by someone else.
"Zhou Mo, let's find a place to put our bags first. I really don't want to be carrying a tray around like a headless fly."
"there."
Fan Nannan looked in the direction Zhou Mo pointed and said, "There are people over there."
"Yes, my friend reserved it in advance."
Qi Xiao saw Zhou Mo from afar and waved to her, "Here, Momo."
As soon as Zhou Mo sat down, Qi Xiao clung to her like a soft-bodied animal. "So slow, Momo. Your face is so hot. Let me cool you down." As she spoke, she picked up the chilled mung bean soup she had just bought and placed it on Zhou Mo's face. "Feeling better?"
Fan Nannan's gaze lingered between Qi Xiao and Zhou Mo. Just as she was about to look away, she was startled when she suddenly met a pair of eyes in the corner. By the time she looked over, she couldn't find who had been watching her.
"What's wrong?"
"It's nothing." Fan Nannan felt strange, but then thought she was making a fuss over nothing.
"Let's go get some food!" Qi Xiao pulled Zhou Mo to her feet.
The three of them couldn't walk side by side because the cafeteria was too crowded; they could only walk one in front of the other, like a greedy snake.
Fortunately, the food in the cafeteria tastes good, so it doesn't feel like the effort of queuing up in the sweltering summer heat was wasted.
After lunch, Fan Nannan noticed that Qi Xiao and Zhou Mo had something to talk about, so she said she was going back to take a nap.
Qi Xiao and Zhou Mo strolled in the shade of the playground. Qi Xiao unconsciously kicked at the small black rubber pellets. Zhou Mo noticed that she was in a bad mood. "What's wrong?"
"Qi Kai has someone follow me."
"From society?"
"No, he's also a student at Z University, majoring in Economics and Management, a junior named Wei Huai."
Zhou Mo vaguely recognized the name Wei Huai. She seemed to have seen it on Fan Nannan's school celebrity WeChat account. It seemed to be a very popular academic star. Qi Kai actually knew such a person. It seems that the Qi family had been planning for Zhengyang City for a long time.
"Qi Kai values you highly."
"But I don't like it. I feel uncomfortable every time I go to my grandfather's place, but he completely ignores my wishes because of his career."
The old man. Zhou Mo thought of the old man she had only met once. Although he had retired from the stage, he still held sway behind the scenes. Even Qi Kai had to rely on him. He had held power for so many years, and yet he stepped down so easily. Was this courage, or was he just being decisive?
"Stop thinking about it. Now that you've left Ming'an, just focus on your studies."
“Momo, you’re right. We’ve already left Ming’an, so let’s enjoy ourselves here as long as we can. I’m not going to think about it anymore. Wei Huai is just following me around. Anyway, I won’t do what they do. I’ll just treat him like a little tagalong.”
Zhou Mo smiled. Qi Xiao's personality, to be honest, was quite different from when they first met. But Qi Xiao's true nature hadn't changed; she was still the same Qi Xiao.
"Want some ice cream? It's on me."
Qi chuckled and grabbed Zhou Mo's arm. "Eat, I want to eat mint chocolate."
"You love her that much? Do you secretly eat her toothpaste in the morning?"
Qi Xiao's eyes widened. "Who eats toothpaste? You're not allowed to call my mint chocolate toothpaste!"
Zhou Mo laughed, and Qi Xiao deliberately tickled her.
Zhou Mo: "Okay, okay, I promise I won't say your mint chocolate is toothpaste next time."
While the two were playing around, a boy suddenly appeared behind Zhou Mo and patted her on the shoulder. Qi Xiao instantly switched to combat mode and pulled Zhou Mo behind him.
The boy blushed at Qi Xiao's actions and stammered, "I, I'm sorry, I scared you. I just saw you over there and wanted to ask if I could add you on WeChat?" The boy's voice grew softer and softer.
"Whose?" Qi Xiao tilted her head and looked at him.
The boy's gaze fell on Zhou Mo. Just as Zhou Mo was about to reply, her phone suddenly rang in her pocket. She took it out, and Qi Xiao saw the caller ID: Yu Xi.
Zhou Mo gave the boy an apologetic smile and then went to the side to answer the phone.
"Have you seen the results?"
"I saw it."
What are your thoughts?
"I feel like you could get into Tsinghua or Peking University if you work hard."
"I don't want to go to Tsinghua or Peking University."
"So what do you want to study?"
“Z University”.
Yu Xi spoke so fast that Zhou Mo almost didn't hear her clearly. Just as she was about to ask another question, Yu Xi suddenly asked her, "Zhou Mo, were you hit on?"
"..." This person.
Zhou Mo immediately looked around and had an unrealistic and absurd idea.
I doubt Yu Xi is at Z University now.
