Chapter Six

Chapter Six

Perhaps even God felt that humanity was insignificant and struggling to survive, and finally stopped this devastating natural disaster. Blue skies and white clouds, if one did not look at the ruins and devastation beneath, this day would have been no different from any other ordinary day.

Everything is getting back on track.

After seeing her parents off, Zhou Mo placed the two rings in an urn and buried them in the cemetery. What was once a new, bare plot of land is now filled with undulating tombstones and the continuous sound of weeping.

Zhou Mo stroked the cold tombstone. "Mom, Dad, I hope you can continue to be happy. I have to go now."

Fine raindrops fell at Zhou Mo's feet, and she looked up to realize it was raining.

Rain or shine.

She lingered no longer, leaving everything behind.

Life must go on, and so must our studies.

Not long after the disaster, the school reopened. Zhou Mo and her classmates sat in the classroom again. Some classes were taught by the same teachers, while others were taught by new teachers. No one asked where the old teachers had gone. The teachers wrote on the blackboard with great effort, and the students buried themselves in taking notes. The tense learning atmosphere forced people to detach themselves from the disaster once again.

During the break, the students finally had a chance to catch their breath. Zhou Mo lay on her desk, looking exhausted, but she still listened attentively to the conversations around her.

"Momo, our new physics teacher graduated from Peking University! That's amazing! The physics department at Peking University isn't a place just anyone can get into." Zhou Mo's deskmate was a cute girl with short hair, but her voice didn't match her personality; it was a lively, boyish voice.

"Not only that, I heard he has a bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree." The student in front of her overheard someone gossiping about the teacher and immediately turned around to chime in.

"No wonder, I noticed he has a bit of thinning hair."

Despite the noise around her, Zhou Mo didn't find it annoying; instead, she found a sense of comfort in the noise.

"Momo, you look terrible. Should we go to the infirmary?"

Zhou Moqiang shook his head, trying to stay alert. "It's nothing. I just did a really difficult English test last night, and my brain just exploded."

"Are you not used to living in the dormitory?"

Zhou Mo is beautiful and has a good personality. In addition, everyone knows what happened to her family, so they feel even more sorry for her now.

"You'll get used to it eventually."

Hearing Zhou Mo say that, her deskmate didn't know what to say next, so she changed the subject, "Mo Mo, you seemed to be very close to Qi Xiao before."

"Yes, we're friends now."

Her deskmate hesitated for a moment, then finally imitated Zhou Mo by lying down and speaking in a whisper, "Mo Mo, do you know why we don't play with Qi Xiao much?"

"Um?"

Zhou Mo had no idea that she had always been popular with people since she was a child, and people usually came to her to play. She rarely took the initiative to make friends.

Seeing her bewildered expression, her deskmate kindly reminded her, "She's actually a fine person, it's just that her family isn't very nice. Last time, a girl from the next class went to and from school with Qi Xiao, and apparently her family saw it. They verbally abused the girl. Later, someone went to her junior high school to inquire and found out that everyone she had ever hung out with had been verbally abused by her family."

"Why would a family not allow their child to make friends?" Zhou Mo wondered.

My deskmate shook his head. "I don't know either. Actually, I don't really want to talk about people behind their backs, but I don't want you to get scolded."

Zhou Mo understood her deskmate's good intentions. "I understand, thank you."

"Zhou Mo, someone is looking for you at the door!"

Zhou Mo was startled by the shout. Just as she was about to ask what was going on, she saw a head pop out from the front door. Then, the person casually leaned against the door frame and beckoned to her with a finger, "Come here."

Before Zhou Mo could react, her deskmate reacted even more strongly. Her deskmate tugged at Zhou Mo's sleeve and said in a hurried and low voice, "Mo Mo, how did you get involved with this scoundrel? Is he here to cause you trouble? Don't go over there, he hits people, men and women alike."

Zhou Mo was at a loss for words. Only one thought remained in her mind: how come she hadn't realized before that her deskmate was a know-it-all?

"You know him?"

"Yu Xi, a lot of people know her, she's a notorious madwoman."

Yu Xi didn't give Zhou Mo time to gather more information. Seeing that she hadn't moved, he walked in directly and said, "You never listen when I talk to you."

Zhou Mo was a little annoyed that her gossip time had been interrupted. She looked up straight at Yu Xi and said, "It's all nonsense."

Why do you always say that what I say is nonsense?

"This one too."

When Yu Xi approached, the classmate kept his mouth shut, but after hearing Zhou Mo and Yu Xi exchanging barbs and Zhou Mo seemingly gaining the upper hand, his eyes widened and his gaze towards Zhou Mo became more respectful.

Yu Xi laughed in exasperation, "Come out here, I have something to tell you."

He seemed to think Zhou Mo would still talk back to him, so he added, "Words may be nonsense, but what I say is never nonsense."

Zhou Mo remembered that Yu Xi had helped her find the ring last time, so she didn't argue with him this time. She got up and followed Yu Xi out of the classroom.

"There's almost no time left during break, so please get to the point."

Seeing Zhou Mo's attitude, Yu Xi became subtly interested, "We have a history of gratitude between us, so why are you being so cold?"

Zhou Mo glanced at him indifferently, "Do you create a new persona for yourself every day? I've seen you three times, and each time it's different. What's it today? A bored school bully looking for someone to vent his anger on?"

"I wouldn't call myself a school bully. Only those who attend school can be ranked by their school affiliation. Someone like me is at best a troublemaker."

Zhou Mo had never seen anyone belittle themselves like that before; this person was truly strange.

Zhou Mo's feelings for Yu Xi were neither good nor bad. The so-called gratitude between them wasn't a deep bond. She couldn't understand what Yu Xi had that made him interested in her and want to entangle her at school.

"Class is about to start. If you have anything else to say, save it for the next break." Zhou Mo said, then turned and went back to the classroom without looking back.

Zhou Mo thought Yu Xi would continue to pester her, but she didn't see Yu Xi again until she sat back down and the class bell rang.

My deskmate was eager to gossip, but the teacher's chalk had an automatic tracking function, leaving no blind spots for him to hide. Helpless, he had to suppress his gossipy nature and focus on the lesson.

Another class passed, and Zhou Mo listened attentively, taking notes even after class ended.

"Momo, has Yu Xi left?"

"have no idea."

After writing the last letter, Zhou Mo stretched her sore neck and wrists. She remembered what she had said during the break between classes, so she got up and walked towards the door. She peeked out into the corridor, but Yu Xi was already gone.

"ill."

Zhou Mo thought that her interactions with Yu Xi would end there, since they were simply not on the same path.

But fate is like an invisible plaster; once you're attached, you can't shake it off.

The damage caused by the earthquake can still be seen on both sides of the road. Some dangerous buildings have been demolished. The once towering buildings that blocked out the sun have disappeared. The sky is now clearer and the view is wider.

Zhou Mo, who was out shopping, stumbled upon a scene of fighting. When the fierce-looking young man looked over, her first reaction was to run away. But the surroundings were empty, and there wasn't even a trash can. If she were as thin as a piece of paper, she could probably squeeze herself into that unrepaired crack.

"Don't let her get away, or we'll be in big trouble if we call the police!"

she?

Me?

Zhou Mo screamed inwardly, "Don't come any closer!"

Her actions outpaced her thoughts; she quickly located the nearest police station and decided that a sprint might offer her a chance of survival.

But this glimmer of hope was quickly seized.

She was usually lively and active, and thought she was quite strong, but compared to these thugs who were used to fighting, she was simply showing off her skills. One of them grabbed her backpack strap and pulled her back.

"Where do you want to run?"

Zhou Mo knew the principle of not taking a loss in front of you, so she put her hands together and said ingratiatingly, "Brothers, I was just passing by. I'll pretend I didn't see anything and I won't call the police. Please let me go."

"Oh ho, you're quite sensible."

Most of the thugs were fearless and didn't intend to make a move, even though Zhou Mo was cooperating.

Someone saw Zhou Mo's school uniform and had a wicked idea: "That guy from the north of the city, is that thief Lao San dating a good student? He keeps saying how great she is, it's making me itch to date him too."

As he spoke, the man stroked his chin, looking at Zhou Mo with ill intent.

Zhou Mo's internal alarm bells were ringing. Did these people have their brains in their crotches? If this matter could be resolved today, she would definitely sign up for a Taekwondo class. If she encountered them again, she would kick them all to pieces.

"I'm not a good student, so I definitely won't catch your eye, brother. If I date someone who's at the bottom of the class, it'll make you lose face, won't it?"

"Let's not talk about it, can I at least smell it?" one of the blond-haired guys said, and the others burst into laughter. "After you're done smelling it, I'll smell it, okay?"

"You guys are so annoying, what if you scare the little girl?" He seemed to be speaking up for Zhou Mo, but he actually had ill intentions.

Zhou Mo had never suffered such humiliation in her life. This was truly unbearable! She seized the opportunity and kicked the blond-haired man who had first uttered those nonsense points in the most sensitive area.

A mournful scream pierced the sky as Zhou Mo, taking advantage of her thin frame, slipped between the two.

"Holy shit! Grab her! I'm going to kill her!"

Seeing that things were going badly, Zhou Mo picked up a brick from the ground and shouted, "Don't come any closer!"

"Damn it, do you even know how to use a brick? Do you even know where to throw it?!" They all looked fierce and menacing, approaching Zhou Mo step by step.

Zhou Mo knew that once she turned around and started running, she would inevitably be caught, and then she would really have no chance to fight back.

"She doesn't know, but don't I?"

The next second, the man who had just been rude to Zhou Mo was knocked to the ground by a brick. Zhou Mo's eyes widened in shock, "Yu Xi?"

Was Yu Xi the one who was just cornered and beaten?

Yu Xi weighed the brick in her hand, grinned at Zhou Mo, and said, "When will you be able to speak to me so humbly? Can you do it in a bit?"

After listening to Yu Xi's words, Zhou Mo had only one thought in her mind at that moment.

Mad dog.

Yu Xi is definitely a mad dog.
