Chapter Thirteen
The girl's voice trembled as she spoke, her hands were clenched into fists, and her body trembled uncontrollably, all of which indicated her anger.
Zhang Xing hurriedly said, "I know this matter will be investigated thoroughly. I know very well what kind of person the class monitor is, and he would never do such a thing."
"I'm telling you this because I think you're independent now and have the right to know about it."
Zhou Mo pursed her lips, slowly suppressing her emotions. "Thank you, Uncle Zhang."
“Zhou Mo…”
"You cook, I'm hungry."
"Eh..."
Zhang Xing didn't know what to say at the moment, so he went along with Zhou Mo's sudden words. The kitchen immediately fell silent, and Zhang Xing observed Zhou Mo's state while cooking.
When Zhou Mo picked up the knife, his heart trembled, but fortunately the knife only landed on the pear.
Zhou Mo's cooking skills were not just talk; she held a pear in one hand and a knife in the other, and with a few quick strokes, she peeled off the pear. She set the peel aside and began to process the walnuts.
Seeing that Zhou Mo's behavior was perfectly normal, Zhang Xing felt half relieved but not completely at ease. If Zhou Mo had lost control of her emotions like a normal child, he wouldn't have been so worried.
The person cooking was lost in thought, so the food was naturally only mediocre. But this time, Zhou Mo and Yu Xi didn't say anything, and the meal was unusually quiet.
Zhou Mo still had half a test paper left to finish, so she stayed in the living room to continue writing. This time, Yu Xi didn't continue looking at the pear, but instead picked up a walnut kernel and started studying it.
The walnut and pear soup that Zhou Mo made was delicious. Yu Xi ate it all up. After he finished, he deliberately put the bowl next to Zhou Mo, but she didn't even glance at him.
Yu Xi didn't mind and continued to admire her walnut kernels.
Neither Zhou Mo nor Yu Xi felt that the atmosphere in the 'home' was anything but strange, but Zhang Xing simply couldn't stand it and slipped out of the yard without even making an excuse.
Zhou Mo and Yu Xi spent time together quietly until almost midnight.
Zhang Xing probably isn't planning to come back. Maybe he's been held up by something, or maybe he's already reassured about Yu Xi and Zhou Mo.
These two kids won't do anything outrageous.
I'm hungry.
"You can't eat too much."
I'm hungry.
"I'm talking about walnut stewed with pears. If you eat too much, you'll just be sitting on the toilet with a rosy face, stomping your numb feet."
Yu Xi put down the walnut kernels. "Oh."
Zhou Mo wrote down the last answer with her pen, exhaled, folded the test paper and put it into her schoolbag. After making sure she hadn't forgotten anything, she closed the schoolbag.
She turned her chair around and looked directly at Yu Xi. Yu Xi had changed her clothes before eating. She was wearing a dark blue rabbit fur sweater, charcoal gray wide-leg jeans, and black fluffy slippers. Just looking at her made her feel warm and cozy. Her gaze moved to Yu Xi's lowered head and she noticed that Yu Xi had an alarmingly thick amount of hair. From her angle, she couldn't see a single white scalp.
My gaze slowly moved down, and I caught a glimpse of Yu Xi's expression. After being rejected by Zhou Mo, he looked quite dejected, his lips moving slightly, as if he were secretly cursing himself.
Zhou Mo's understanding of Yu Xi has expanded to include another piece, but it's a dark one. She has only glimpsed a corner of it and doesn't know where it came from.
"You can eat it the day after tomorrow."
"oh."
Zhou Mo: "..."
It's rare for her to feel awkward sometimes. Usually, she would say something to lighten the mood, but today she really wasn't in the mood. What she wanted to tell Yu Xi seemed insignificant, and saying it wouldn't solve her troubles.
What answer will Yu Xi give?
It will probably be quite unconventional, and then I'll deliberately make her laugh, and that's the end of it.
She would laugh along, and the matter would end with Yu Xi, but the troubles wouldn't disappear.
This is Yu Xi.
Yu Xi wouldn't be a good family member.
As Zhou Mo got up to go to her room to sleep, Yu Xi suddenly spoke up, "You have something on your mind, aren't you going to talk to your family about it?"
"Do you want to hear it?" This was the first time Zhou Mo had asked Yu Xi for her opinion.
Yu Xi nodded and moved to the side of the sofa, leaving Zhou Mo a comfortable and spacious place. Zhou Mo looked at it for two seconds and then decisively chose to sit down.
"I have a friend."
"Yes, it's you."
Zhou Mo rolled her eyes. "I didn't intend to use a pseudonym. This story really has to start with my friend."
Yu Xi: "Sorry to interrupt you."
Zhou Mo looked as if she had seen a ghost. Yu Xi shrugged indifferently at her shocked gaze, and that arrogant expression reappeared. Only then did Zhou Mo feel at ease. This was the Yu Xi she knew. Don't show those expressions she had never seen before.
She felt a little flustered...
“She gave my photo to someone else, and that person contacted me.”
"Seank".
"?" Zhou Mo looked puzzled.
Yu Xi tossed the walnut kernel she was playing with into her mouth and chewed it. "Thief Lao San's name, Shawnke."
"This name sounds quite foreign."
Yu Xi smiled ambiguously, "He named it himself." Before Zhou Mo could think further, he continued, "Your friend's name is Qi Xiao, and she's the girlfriend of Thief Lao San."
"The reason you were found by the third thief that day was because his girlfriend gave him your photo, and he went to the school to wait for you."
“Hmm.” Zhou Mo wasn’t surprised that Yu Xi would connect the dots, but she was more surprised that Yu Xi knew about the relationship between Qi Xiao and Shawn Ke.
"Head of the family, stay away from Qi Xiao."
"Why?"
Yu Xi leaned back lazily on the sofa, barely lifting her eyelids. "After all she's done to you, do you still want to be friends with her?"
"I..." Zhou Mo didn't know either. If she had known, perhaps she wouldn't have been so conflicted.
When I was at my lowest point, Qi Xiao stayed by my side and said she wanted to be my friend.
She had heard this phrase countless times since she was a child, but never before had it warmed her heart like Qi Xiao's.
"If you don't want to, you'll cut ties cleanly; if you do, you'll hesitate."
Zhou Mo lowered her eyes. Yes, what was she struggling with? She still couldn't bear to part with her friend Qi Xiao, and she couldn't bear to part with the days and nights they had spent keeping each other warm in the tent.
Zhou Mo was lost in thought and didn't see the slightly confused look in Yu Xi's eyes. His words weren't just for Zhou Mo, but also for himself.
Has she expressed her opinion?
What does it mean?
Yu Xi raised her hand and flicked Zhou Mo's head. "Silly girl, did she apologize? Did she say sorry? And has she thought of any ways to make amends?"
"You'd better apologize to the head of the household right now!"
Yu Xi grabbed Zhou Mo's outstretched hand and threw her back. "Alright, alright, it's hard to solve problems without physical gestures. Just think of me as Ikkyu, and this is my Gekiji."
"Glib and smooth talker."
"Your description is accurate; your Chinese is definitely excellent."
Yu Xi seemed to be in a good mood and gave Zhou Mo a thumbs up.
"This just happened today, right? If you're soft-hearted, give her some time and see what she does. A gentleman judges by her actions, not her intentions. As long as she does things that are good for you, what she's thinking doesn't matter."
“It’s important.” Zhou Mo shook off Yu Xi’s hand. “I think it’s very important. I believe in sincerity for sincerity. What I want is not the good things others do for me, but a flawless sincerity towards me.”
With sincerity, how could good things not come of it?
How can a bad heart not lead to bad things?
Zhou Mo left the rest of her sentence unfinished, but she was certain that Yu Xi understood.
Yu Xi seemed thoughtful, then smiled indifferently, "Whatever you want, haven't you thought it all through? What's there to worry about?"
Do I look incredibly stupid to you?
Yu Xi: "No."
"lie."
Yu Xi rested one hand on the back of the sofa, her fingers tapping lightly without her noticing. "Our conversation is really interesting; we'll repeat it every now and then."
"Then your life must be pretty boring, so why would you find this interesting?"
Yu Xi didn't respond this time.
Silence fell over the living room again. The hour hand of the clock pointed to twelve o'clock, and the minute hand completing another revolution meant that today would be tomorrow.
Today will soon become yesterday.
"Do you know about Qi Xiao's family situation?"
Yu Xi said sarcastically, "In my boring life, you get boring news? Would someone like you, who has a meaningful life, want to hear that?"
"Speak properly, where did you learn that?"
"Anyway, I didn't learn it from you. If I learned it from the head of the family, then I can only..." Yu Xi, acting like a drama queen, immediately began to imitate Zhou Mo's excessive silence today. The uncanny resemblance made Zhou Mo grit her teeth.
"Okay, I apologize, I'm sorry."
“Okay, I’ll judge by actions, not intentions. You apologized, so I’ll forgive you.” Yu Xi immediately reverted to her usual playful demeanor and steered the conversation back on track before Zhou Mo could get angry. “I know a little bit.”
Zhou Mo's mind raced, "Is it because of Shawn Ke?"
"Yes, Qi Xiao's brother and Sean are very close friends."
Zhou Mo sensed a hint of gritted teeth in those four words, which piqued her curiosity. She knew nothing about who had passed through Yu Xi's life or who had stayed with her. Although she didn't want to pry, she also didn't want to be completely ignorant.
Now that she has such a great opportunity, she naturally wants to seize it.
"Did the three of you know each other before?"
Zhou Mo asked cautiously, already prepared for Yu Xi to reject her, but instead heard Yu Xi give a very soft "hmm".
"We've known each other since we were little."
Zhou Mo blinked her eyes, and Yu Xi felt a little annoyed by her staring. He reached out and ruffled Zhou Mo's hair a couple of times, but Zhou Mo didn't take it to heart and continued blinking.
"Qi Xiao's older brother is named Qi Kai, who is Shawn Ke's cousin."
"?!" Zhou Mo's expression changed from confusion to shock. "Then Qi Xiao and... isn't that...?"
"What are you so shocked about? Did I say that Qi Xiao is Qi Kai's biological sister?"
"How am I supposed to know if you don't tell me?"
Yu Xi looked at Zhou Mo with amusement, "Aren't you friends with her? Hasn't she told you anything about her family? Not even a single thing?"
“Zhou Mo, if she even considered you a friend, she wouldn’t be friends with you.”
