Chapter Thirty-Six
"Alright, I just came to see if you're settling in well. It seems like you're doing pretty well."
Yu Xi chuckled and leaned casually against the railing. The summer breeze ruffled the stray hairs on his forehead, making his already handsome eyes sparkle. "Then why do I look so disappointed when you see me in the classroom?"
Zhou Mo pretended to be naive, "Really?" She really hadn't expected Yu Xi to be so well-behaved on his first day of school. Given his personality, it was impossible for him not to cause trouble. When she arrived, she was surprised to see that although Yu Xi wasn't sitting up straight, he was sitting attentively and listening to the lesson. This person had really changed.
Yu Xi didn't argue with Zhou Mo about these useless things. "The cafeteria food is terrible. I didn't eat enough at noon."
"So what do you want to eat tonight?"
"Brain".
Zhou Mo was stunned for a moment. Yu Xi looked at Zhou Mo and suddenly found her somewhat cute. She subconsciously bent down and leaned closer. "As long as it's not a human brain, it's fine."
The two were very close, so close that Zhou Mo could clearly see the color of Yu Xi's pupils. Illuminated by the light, they looked as if she were seeing the purest amber.
"Cough cough cough!"
The romantic atmosphere was broken by Yu Xi's homeroom teacher. Zhou Mo subconsciously wanted to back away, but when she looked up, she found that Yu Xi had already retreated to a safe distance.
"Zhou Mo, it's Zhou Mo, right?"
When Zhou Mo's name was called by the teacher, she stiffened, turned around, and flashed a bright smile, "Teacher Yang."
Yu Xi's homeroom teacher, Yang Shu, is a young man. Although he is young, he has achieved good results in his teaching career, and the school values him and wants to cultivate him further. There are many sycophants around Yang Shu, which has made his personality arrogant.
"What are you doing at school after you've already graduated? Did you register? What if something happens to the students if some random people come onto the school? Besides, you've graduated, but what about the others? That boy, yes, I'm talking to you, you're a senior in high school now, your priority should be studying! Dating will only hurt yourself and others!"
Zhou Mo realized that Yang Shu was being sarcastic towards her, but she didn't care. She could even continue to talk to Yang Shu with a smile, "Teacher Yang, Teacher Tian asked me to come and find her. A lot of students from our class got into 985 and 211 universities this time, so the school is going to treat us to a meal."
"Teacher Yang, don't you know? It's alright. When you teach so many students who get into prestigious universities, the school will reward you too."
After Zhou Mo finished speaking, she admired Yang Shu's ashen face. Only then did she look at Yu Xi with satisfaction. Yu Xi looked at her with a half-smile. Zhou Mo snapped out of her smugness and gave Yu Xi a guilty twitch of her lips.
Oh no, it seems she's gotten Yu Xi into trouble.
Yu Xi gave Zhou Mo a fake smile, then turned and went back to the classroom.
Zhou Mo pursed her lips and decided to buy a few more pig brains for Yu Xi to nourish her body, since she would definitely have a headache facing such a homeroom teacher in the future.
Seeing that these people left one by one without even saying goodbye, Yang Shu became even angrier.
Just as Zhou Mo had thought, she had already graduated, but Yu Xi was in Yang Shu's class, so he naturally wouldn't let go of the opportunity to torment Yu Xi.
Yu Xi found it ridiculous. We're already in a modern civilized society, how can there still be people who are like the uncivilized? Is this a kind of genetic defect? If so, can it be reimbursed by medical insurance? If not, does it mean that a person is born with two versions, a fully uncompressed version and a .zip version, and needs the right decompression software to become a complete human being?
If Yang Shu knew that Yu Xi was thinking these things when he was having an affair with her, he would probably be so angry that he would vomit blood on the spot.
He might vomit even more than the advisor, but probably not for as long, since Yang Shu looks very weak.
In fact, Yang Shu's words to Yu Xi were nothing more than attacks on Yu Xi's intelligence and his unknown past. Yu Xi was good-looking and taciturn, so Yang Shu naturally labeled him as a good-for-nothing who only relied on his looks.
Yu Xi remained noncommittal.
He can probably make a living based on his looks.
In the summer, evening self-study sessions for senior high school students end at 8:30 PM, and in the winter, they end at 9:30 PM. The similarity is that students can apply to extend the sessions to 10:30 PM, otherwise the security guards will come in and kick them out.
Although the senior year of high school has just begun, most students choose to study until 10:30 p.m. After all, studying at home is completely different from studying at school. Home is noisy and lacks atmosphere, while in class there are people to motivate you to study together, which is much better.
Yu Xi is clearly an outlier among them.
The sound of dragging a chair was particularly clear in the quiet classroom. Ning Xiang, who was engrossed in writing her homework, looked over when she heard the sound. Yu Xi had just slung her backpack over her shoulder. The backpack was light and airy, as if it was a fashion accessory that Yu Xi had chosen to complete her outfit.
Are you going home?
Yu Xi looked at Ning Xiangjian, and Ning Xiangjian's heart tightened. "I...I didn't mean to meddle in your business."
"Oh, it's you this morning."
Ning Xiangjian was stunned for a moment, and in that instant, Yu Xi had already left the classroom.
She stared blankly at the doorway.
Did you only just recognize her?
Why was she living in fear all day, not daring to say a word to him?
Yu Xi had no idea that he was causing trouble for the young girl, but even if he did, he wouldn't care.
All he wanted to do was get home quickly and see what was on the table. He guessed there would be pig brains.
Yu Xi pushed open the gate to the courtyard with great surprise. Zhou Mo had rearranged the courtyard, and a swing was placed among the flowers. Colorful light strips were wrapped around the swing, which would be brightly lit when turned on at night.
But at this moment, the courtyard was pitch black, and so was the room.
Yu Xi thought it was Zhou Mo's trick and didn't think much of it. But when he pushed open the inner door, the room was filled with a familiar yet terrifying silence and coldness. There was no familiar scent in the air, and no pleasant time to be found.
At that moment, he realized that Zhou Mo was not at home.
"Retaliate against me, Zhou Mo?"
That's not true at all; Yu Xi has misunderstood Zhou Mo.
Zhou Mo did plan to do something, but not right now. There were still more than half a month before her university semester started, so even if she was anxious, she didn't need to be in such a hurry.
But as the saying goes, "The emperor isn't worried, but the eunuch is."
Zhou Mo wasn't in a hurry, but Sun Zhe was.
Seeing Zhou Mo staring at him with her big, blinking eyes, Sun Zhe walked over and pulled the gag out of her mouth. Zhou Mo felt a soreness in her chin, as if the gag had sucked all the saliva out of her mouth. If this were made into a hair dryer, she could save half the time when blow-drying her hair.
What do you want to say?
"Send me the link." Zhou Mo gestured with her chin towards the discarded towel.
Sun Zhe frowned, looking in the direction Zhou Mo was pointing her lip. He looked at her suspiciously two or three times, making sure she wasn't playing a trick on him. Then he was so angry he laughed, "Are you fucking crazy?!"
"Is it because I've been spending too much time with Yu Xi that I'm going to mutate too?"
Zhou Mo's eyes widened. "Yu Xi can mutate? Which kind? Is he Ant-Man or the Hulk? Iron Man doesn't have any suits, so could he be Spider-Man? No wonder he keeps his bedroom door closed all the time. Is he hiding a Spider-Man suit under his bed?"
Sun Zhe looked at Zhou Mo as if she were an idiot. This woman was different from what he had heard. Wasn't she supposed to be a beautiful and cunning academic genius?
He looks like a lunatic.
"If you keep talking nonsense, I'll shove this thing down your esophagus!" Sun Zhe picked up a towel from the ground and threatened Zhou Mo, holding it to her mouth.
Zhou Mo immediately became obedient, looking pitifully at Sun Zhe, and said the first thing a hostage usually says, "Big brother, how did I offend you? I'll do whatever you want, please don't kill me."
Sun Zhe's lips twitched slightly; he was starting to have a hard time figuring out Zhou Mo.
Sun Zhe was nicknamed "Little Madman" in Zhengyang City because he never played by the rules, spoke erratically, and acted ruthlessly. He had almost no friends because there was no one he could talk to.
Now, he has people he can't even talk to.
"You, speak properly."
Zhou Mo dropped her pitiful act and rolled her eyes at Sun Zhe. "This won't do, that won't do. I'm just a hostage, and you're the kidnapper. Why are you making so many demands?"
"Hey!" Sun Zhe was so angry that he was about to grab a towel and stuff it into Zhou Mo's mouth.
As Zhou Mo moved backward, she didn't forget to retort, "Even if you start a tune, I won't sing your song. You're too hard to please."
Sun Zhe has truly lost his temper; he's really done with it.
Normally, he would have used both big tongs to take them down, and whether they were crying or not, strong or pitiful, reasonable or not, they would all become obedient hostages.
However, Zhou Mo was the one who specifically said not to move.
Sun Zhe angrily threw down the towel and scratched his head in frustration. "Just shut up, that's all."
Zhou Mo rolled her eyes again.
She pretended to be fearless on the surface, but she was still scared inside. After all, this was a kidnapping, and the person opposite her was Sun Zhe, a ruthless man she had met before.
But Zhou Mo has one advantage, which is also her obvious weakness.
Bold and adventurous.
In addition, she is intelligent and often discovers insightful details that others miss. Moreover, she is no longer the Zhou Mo she once was; having experienced several changes, she is now meticulous and logically sound.
Sun Zhe had no grudge against her; the grudge was with Yu Xi. Moreover, Zhang Xing had assured her that as long as Yu Xi didn't cause trouble, Zhengyang City wouldn't take action on its own.
Zhang Xing's intentions may not be good, but his identity is beyond doubt; otherwise, he wouldn't have helped Yu Xi accomplish so many things with her.
Therefore, it can be said that as long as she and Zhang Xing do not have a falling out, Sun Zhe will not dare to touch her.
Her recent probing perfectly confirmed this.
Zhou Mo secretly breathed a sigh of relief. To be honest, she was prepared to be slapped across the face.
It seems that the person who gave the order must have repeatedly emphasized this to Sun Zhe, otherwise someone with Sun Zhe's personality wouldn't have let her off easily.
So, her next task was to get the information out as quickly as possible.
It's impossible for Sun Zhe to come to Ming'an City without leaking any information. As long as she can reveal even a little bit, no matter who finds out—Xiao Enke, Qi Kai, or He Ru—Yu Xi will eventually find out.
Perhaps this is also an opportunity.
Zhou Mo bent her knees and rested her chin on them.
It seems like even God is on her side.
