Chapter 101: Speaking Frankly
When I woke up again, the ward was still filled with dead silence.
Consciousness returned very slowly, as if through a thick layer of frosted glass.
A cold and desperate dream and those eyes filled with panic and guilt... The fragments of memory were pieced together bit by bit, bringing a suffocating pain.
Song Youning had suspected Ji Siyun a long time ago, but at that time she thought he was a paper man who had awakened out of the plot and never thought about it more deeply.
If it weren't for the memories that were awakened from her subconscious during her coma, she might not have realized until now that Ji Siyun, like her, did not belong to this world.
It turned out that her so-called mission target had been playing a role-playing game with her from beginning to end.
But the question is, why her?
Who benefits from trapping her here?
Song Youning could only think of one person - her good brother, Song Zhiyan.
The ward door opened, and Ji Siyun silently walked to the bedside, carrying warm water and fresh medicine. He looked no better than she did, still haggard, though clean-shaven and dressed in clean clothes. But the bloodshot and heavy look in his eyes hadn't diminished in the slightest.
Hearing the familiar footsteps approaching, Song Youning didn't even blink.
There was a suffocating silence in the air, and time passed by minute by minute.
"What is your purpose in trapping me here?"
Finally, a hoarse voice that was almost inaudible broke the silence. Song Youning turned his head, his eyes cold, like an ice-hardened blade, stabbing straight at him.
Ji Siyun's body stiffened suddenly, his pupils shrinking slightly. He avoided her gaze, his jawline tense, his lips pressed into a pale line, and he remained silent, not saying a word.
She looked at him quietly for a moment, with a look of scrutiny and mockery, then suddenly sneered. There was no warmth in her laughter, only bone-chilling coldness and contempt: "Did Song Zhiyan send you?"
"Do you think he can win by trapping me here like this?" The sarcasm in her tone grew stronger. "Is this all he can do? He can't win openly, so he resorts to such despicable tactics? Dragging me into this boring love drama?"
She raised her chin slightly, and even though she looked frail and pale, she still carried an innate pride. "I'll tell you, and tell him, love has never been a stumbling block to me. You've made a wrong calculation."
Ji Siyun listened to her cold and sharp words, each word piercing his heart like a needle. His eyes were filled with intense pain and a kind of madness that she had completely misunderstood.
He suddenly raised his head to look at her, his voice low and distorted due to suppression: "Miss, I don't understand what you are talking about Song Zhiyan... What about winning or not..."
He took a step forward, his eyes locked with hers, with a kind of paranoid desire, "Wouldn't it be nice for us to be together? Whatever you want, we have it here! Just stay with me in this world, wouldn't it be nice?"
Song Youning narrowed her eyes, completely enraged by the paranoia and inexplicable nature of his words. However, she became calmer when she was angry, and her tone was lighter and more piercing: "I already have everything. Who do you think you are? Why should I stay in this damn place with you? Who do you think you are?"
The last sentence was like a fuse, instantly igniting Ji Siyun's suppressed, dark anger and pent-up grievances.
He suddenly laughed sinisterly, with a creepy madness and pain in his laughter. He asked her back, almost gritting his teeth and squeezing out each word.
"Who do you think I am?" He leaned over and approached her, his breath dangerous. "Miss, have you really forgotten? Or have you never remembered?"
His voice suddenly became sharp and harsh. "That's right. To you, I'm nothing more than a toy you play with and then throw away! I'm just street trash you don't even bother to even look at!"
He roared these words as if he had used up all his strength, and as if he was hurt by the truth he blurted out. He stood up suddenly and looked at her with complicated eyes - there was hatred, pain, and unwillingness in them, but deeper than that was an indelible and twisted love.
After saying this, Ji Siyun suddenly turned away, and the loud sound of the door slamming echoed in the ward.
Song Youning was left lying alone on the bed, stunned by his hateful and inexplicable words. His face was filled with blank confusion and astonishment.
Trash? Toys? What the hell is he talking about?
Song Youning recalled his dazzling life trajectory. He set up a personal charitable fund at the age of 18 and has invested huge amounts of money and investments every year to this day. He has been rated as an outstanding entrepreneur for several consecutive years, and has a halo and a good reputation.
She may be so rational as to be cold and indifferent, and will do anything to achieve her goals, but she never plays with feelings and disdains to do such a thing.
Ji Siyun’s accusations are simply ridiculous!
This feeling of being unable to understand and control made her more uneasy than any clear malice. After thinking about it for a long time, she finally attributed it all to part of the other party's tricks, and became more determined to get rid of this wrong world as soon as possible and return to reality.
The following days fell into an eerie calm.
Ji Siyun seemed to have deliberately forgotten the quarrel that ended in turmoil. He still showed up on time every day, silently taking care of Song Youning's daily life, feeding her medicine, delivering meals, and assisting with rehabilitation, his movements more cautiously than before.
I thought that after that conflict, Song Youning would be even more resistant and disgusted by his approach.
However, to Ji Siyun's surprise, Song Youning only gave him a few cold glances at first, and then just accepted it silently.
She didn't speak and looked out the window most of the time. To outsiders, she was completely devastated by the huge blow of the death of her parents and the weakness after the car accident, becoming a pitiful person with great sorrow and despair.
This silence made Ji Siyun feel even heavier in the heart, as if he had punched cotton, with nowhere to put his force, leaving only a sense of emptiness and sorrow.
He was distressed and sad that Song Youning had completely forgotten him, and he was disgusted with himself for forcing her to be trapped here. He was worried and frightened because Song Youning began to doubt his origins, but he was still paranoid and unwilling to let go.
The interweaving of various complex emotions made Ji Siyun lose her former sharpness, and she did not realize at all how much of a detached performance was contained in the sadness she expressed.
Nor did he see the almost cruel rationality deep in her eyes when she lowered her eyes.
This is not her world, Song Youning knew it clearly.
The reason why she let Song's father and mother leave a day early and tried to reverse their death was not because she cared about their "family affection", but more because she wanted to test whether the fate of this world could be changed.
It turns out that the ending is fixed and cannot be changed.
This is good news.
Song Youning thought indifferently: The ending of this role belonging to "her" must be destined.
Now that her parents have passed away, the company must have fallen into the hands of Ji Siyun. She only needs to wait quietly for the tragic ending to come.
As for the faint emotional ripples caused by the death of her parents, perhaps they came from the instinct of this body. In the face of the verification results, they seemed insignificant and were quickly suppressed by her rationality.
The outside world was indeed just as she had anticipated. News of her parents' plane crash had already spread, and the once-glorious engagement party had become a thing of the past, forgotten by everyone. Many people were secretly watching, waiting to see when this orphaned girl, now without a supporter, would be completely swept away by her now-powerful "fiancé."
It was not until she felt better and could barely sit up and handle some simple matters that the lawyer came to the ward accompanied by Ji Siyun.
As the lawyer read out the lengthy legal provisions in a steady tone, Song Youning lowered his eyes and listened absentmindedly, just waiting for the result about the distribution of shares - all or most of them would belong to Ji Siyun's name.
However, when the lawyer read out the number clearly, she thought she had misheard or that her ears were injured in the car accident.
"...I am transferring all of the shares of 'Youning Group' held by me, totaling 65%, to my daughter Song Youning..."
Song Youning suddenly raised his head, looked at the lawyer in disbelief, and then suddenly turned to the young man by the window.
Ji Siyun seemed to feel her gaze, his body stiffened for a moment, but he did not turn back, still looking out the window silently.
The lawyer seemed oblivious to her shock and continued businesslike, "Furthermore, according to the supplementary agreement previously signed between Mr. Song and Mr. Ji Siyun, Ji Siyun's salary as CEO of the group is a fixed annual salary, and he is not entitled to any equity incentives. Furthermore, the agreement clearly stipulates that Mr. Ji Siyun voluntarily renounces all rights to subscribe for and donate shares. This is the equity transfer document. Please review and sign it, Miss."
The lawyer handed her some documents.
The words are written in black and white, and are extremely clear.
It was the opposite of the "tragic ending" she was waiting for.
After the shock, a sense of ironic enlightenment came over me.
The lawyer finished his work and politely left. The ward door closed gently, isolating the inside from the outside.
Song Youning's gaze was like an icy probe, piercing the young man who had finally turned around. His face was expressionless, only the depths of his eyes were filled with indescribable complex emotions, like anticipation, but also fear of her reaction.
She pulled the corners of her mouth, revealing a cold smile without any warmth, and her voice was hoarse but clear: "You can hear its sound, you know what I need to do..."
She deliberately emphasized the word "need" and asked, "Do you think that by forcing the company on me in this way, you can prevent me from completing my mission?"
Ji Siyun's body suddenly stiffened, as if he was stabbed by these words. He clenched his hands tightly, his knuckles turning white from excessive force, and the old wound in the palm of his hand seemed to be pinched open again, but he seemed to feel no pain.
He looked at her with an almost humble plea in his eyes: "Miss." His voice was dry and trembling, "Stay with me, isn't it good?"
Song Youning seemed to have heard some ridiculous joke, and the sarcasm in his eyes became even stronger: "With you?"
She repeated, her tone rising with a sense of absurdity, "I don't even know who you are, why should I be with you?"
She leaned forward slightly, staring at him with a sharp gaze. "Do you dare to tell me your real name? Not the identity you have in this world, but your original name."
This question was like a poisoned dagger, piercing Ji Siyun's most painful spot. When he heard her ask this question, he knew that she still didn't remember anything. He was the only one who remembered their past.
The huge disappointment and pain overwhelmed him in an instant, and the pain from the palm of his hand was not even one ten-thousandth of the pain in his heart.
He suddenly laughed softly, his laughter filled with despair and a kind of desperate madness. He raised his head, his eyes becoming paranoid and terrifying: "It doesn't matter who I am. Whether you like it or not, whether you remember it or not, you can only be with me. Don't even think about getting rid of me!"
This paranoid and crazy declaration made Song Youning's heart tremble, but more of it was disgust. She picked up a pen and forcefully signed her name on the equity transfer document.
It doesn’t matter. If he doesn’t want it, she will find another way to make him want it.
On the day of discharge, Ji Siyun quietly packed her luggage, handled the formalities, and then escorted her out of the hospital gate. The sunlight was a little glaring, and she squinted slightly.
Standing at the door, Song Youning suddenly stopped.
Ji Siyun also stopped and looked at her in confusion.
She turned her head and met his gaze, her face expressionless. Her voice was terrifyingly calm as she spoke the first calm words to him since waking up: "Let's get married."
Ji Siyun was struck by lightning, his pupils suddenly dilated and contracted violently like an earthquake. He stared at her in disbelief, as if trying to find the slightest hint of a joke or emotional fluctuation on her face.
But he only saw peace.
"Don't want to?" Seeing that he didn't answer for a long time, Song Youning asked with a smile that didn't really show any smile.
Ji Siyun looked at her with extremely complicated eyes.
This was his dream, but he knew better what it meant for her to propose marriage at this time.
Shock, ecstasy, and pain that penetrates the bones, all kinds of emotions collide violently.
He looked at her for a long, long time, so long that the air seemed to freeze. Finally, as if he had exhausted all his strength, he squeezed out an extremely low and heavy word from the depths of his throat:
"……good."
