Chapter 30 Chapter 30 I Still Have the Miss
The sound of water in the bathroom stopped. Ji Siyun came out with the cleaned lunch box and put it in the bag. Song Youning was sitting on another bed in the ward, supporting himself with his hands, his legs swinging back and forth unconsciously in the air.
Her back was to Ji Siyun, her long black hair casually tied into a ponytail, some strands falling and brushing against her slender neck. In the October weather, Song Youning wore a sweater with a side-collar, and her fair right shoulder shone brightly in the light.
Ji Siyun's gaze seemed to be glued to that piece of naked skin. Behind her, greedy eyes crawled over her body unscrupulously.
Song Youning was completely unaware of this. She looked at the old man lying on the hospital bed, her eyes gradually becoming empty.
The setting of Ji Siyun in the novel is too miserable. His parents died early and he lived in poverty. He thought he was adopted by a kind-hearted person, but ended up in another purgatory.
Just when he thought his life was getting better and everything was back on track, his grandmother was about to pass away.
And... Song Youning slowly lowered his head and looked at his shaking toes.
After the system comes back, she still has to complete her mission, and inevitably, she will do something to hurt him.
It wasn't fair to him, but she had to go back anyway.
The mattress beside her sank slightly, and Ji Siyun sat next to her.
"What are you thinking about?"
Song Youning shook her head slowly, and her gaze fell back on the old man lying on the hospital bed - his weather-beaten face was covered by a breathing mask, and his whole body was thin and shriveled, barely surviving under the effects of the drugs.
It was this kind of person who had a hard time living, yet he raised Ji Siyun with great difficulty.
The ear detector beeped regularly. Song Youning looked at the mist gathering on the breathing mask and whispered to Ji Siyun, "Don't be sad."
The person next to him froze.
She didn't turn around to look at Ji Siyun's expression, and her gentle voice was as soft and low as possible.
"I asked the doctor." Song Youning remembered that when she came in, Ji Siyun thought she was a doctor, and said in a tone that was so calm that it could be called paranoid that he must keep her no matter what.
"This time it was already very dangerous. It was a stroke of luck that we were able to be rescued. If it happens again..."
She didn't finish her words.
Ji Siyun's expression gradually turned pale, but his dark eyes stared stubbornly at the old man who was gasping for breath on the hospital bed. He clenched his teeth and forced out a smile that was uglier than crying.
"No, no, she'll be fine."
His face was gloomy and his tone was cold but firm.
She was his only relative, the only warmth he had ever felt in his life for over a decade. How could she leave him? He had to keep her no matter what!
The dark eyes stared grimly at the old man sleeping on the hospital bed, with desperate madness and paranoia in their eyes.
Ji Siyun unconsciously clenched his fists, squeezing so hard that his knuckles turned white. Suddenly, a pair of warm hands held his palms. Song Youning turned around, lowered his head, and pried open his clenched fists bit by bit.
The end of her black hair fell to her bare right shoulder and brushed it slightly. Song Youning gently but firmly opened his trembling fingers one by one, and pressed his delicate and smooth palm against his rough palm, interlocking their fingers.
The look in her eyes as she looked at him was calm and gentle, with a hint of reassuring power, and Ji Siyun's dark mood suddenly faded away.
"It will pass." She said softly, as if comforting a little animal that had suddenly lost the protection of its elders, "Everything will pass."
She had no way of telling Ji Siyun the lies that "she would be fine", so she could only use such a pitying look to comfort him that everything would pass.
Ji Siyun's pale face showed a look of helplessness. The pity in her eyes made him sober up. His eye sockets gradually turned red, his dark pupils were filled with moisture, and his usually rosy lips were tightly pursed into an arc of suppressing sadness.
The gloomy young man was like a puppy that had been caught in the rain, looking at her with wet eyes, hoping to get her pity.
"Grandma is my only relative." His voice was very low and trembling. The hands interlocked with Song Youning tightened slightly. Ji Siyun lowered his eyes, and his thick and long eyelashes were also stained with a little moisture.
With a bitter smile on his lips, Ji Siyun swallowed hard the bitterness surging in his chest.
"Miss, if she leaves, I really will have nothing."
Song Youning's throat moved slightly. She looked at Ji Siyun, who was so sad that he seemed like he was about to break, and complained in her heart: You have so much. The family property that Song's parents have worked hard for most of their lives will all be yours in the future.
She patted his hand, smiled at him, and comforted him: "You still have the Song family."
I don't know what woke him up with her words, the sad expression on his face froze, and then quickly turned into eager joy.
The curtain between the two beds was drawn, and Ji Siyun hugged Song Youning tightly in his arms.
His embrace was tight and hot, his heavy head buried in her shoulder, and Ji Siyun's usually low voice rose in surprise and excitement.
"Yes, I still have the eldest lady."
"?" She didn't seem to mean that.
Forget it. I feel sorry for him and won’t bother with him this time.
Song Youning patted his back awkwardly, "Well, there's me too."
He hugged her, and the off-shoulder sweater Song Youning was wearing slipped down a little. Her delicate collarbone floated with her breathing, right next to Ji Siyun's lips. If he moved a little lower, he would touch that thin piece of skin.
But if he did that, she would definitely be angry and might leave right away. Ji Siyun wanted to stay with her for a while longer.
Breathing in the fragrance coming from her body, Ji Siyun licked his lips to relieve his thirst. His eyes hidden in her shoulder were gloomy and slippery, and he did not hide his crazy possessiveness of her.
When he opened his mouth, his voice was pitiful and humble.
"Since I was born, I have never been expected to be around. People have always avoided me as a nuisance. Only the eldest lady wants me and loves me."
"Miss, please never abandon me."
The humid hot air blew on his neck, and Song Youning shivered.
She didn't say anything, but Ji Siyun hugged her and refused to let go, rubbing against her shoulders stickily: "Miss, please."
"Please don't abandon me."
Song Youning was so pestered by him that he nodded perfunctorily: "Okay, okay, okay, I promise you, you let go first."
This time, Ji Siyun did not delay. She let go of her hand obediently after she finished speaking, which made Song Youning look at him several more times.
Has the clingy Ji puppy changed his personality?
But Song Youning was happy and relaxed. She glanced at the time and asked Ji Siyun, "When are you going back?"
When Ji Siyun was reminded by her, the joy on his expression gradually faded and he became depressed.
"Tonight..." He looked at the drawn bed curtains. The monitor was still beeping regularly. "She was just resuscitated today. The doctor said she needs further observation. I want to stay here tonight to watch over her."
"Miss, please go back first." Ji Siyun thought for a moment and changed his tone, "It's late. I'll take you back."
Only then did Song Youning begin to observe him carefully.
As graduation was approaching, Ji Siyun was busy working and preparing his graduation thesis during the day, and came to the hospital to take care of Grandma Ji after get off work. Even so, he still had to squeeze out time to go back to the apartment to do laundry and cook for her.
This kind of life lasted for several months. Now, looking closely, his narrow eyes were bloodshot, and there was dark circles under his eyes. His delicate face was full of fatigue that could not be concealed.
Song Youning was worried that he would collapse from exhaustion one day.
Ji Siyun forced himself to stand up, and while he was getting Song Youning's things, he said, "I'll give it to you."
Based on the two years they had spent together, Song Youning knew that with Ji Siyun's stubborn personality, if she went back, he would definitely insist on sending her home and then come back.
Ignoring Ji Siyun who was standing at the door waiting for her to go out together, Song Youning kicked off her shoes, lifted the thin blanket on the accompanying bed and lay down on it.
"I'm not going back. I'm staying here tonight."
Ji Siyun was stunned for a moment before walking over. His dark eyes looked at her softly. He sat beside the bed and patiently persuaded Song Youning.
"Miss, stop making trouble. It's hard to rest here at night. Can I take you back?"
"I said I'm not going back, so I'm not going back." Song You would rather not think that Ji Siyun would get into trouble due to excessive fatigue. She glared at Ji Siyun and said with a bit of unreasonable arrogance: "You dare to chase me away?"
Ji Siyun was a little panicked for a moment. "Miss, I didn't!"
The palms of his hands pressed on the bed wrinkled the sheets. Ji Siyun spoke nervously, "The hospital will be very noisy at night. I'm afraid it will disturb the young lady's rest..."
"Okay, you're the noisiest one now." Song Youning interrupted him rudely. She yawned and a few crystal tears squeezed out of the corners of her eyes.
She made a zipper-closing gesture towards Ji Siyun: "Stop talking, I want to sleep." She ignored Ji Siyun's hesitant expression and closed her eyes to prepare for sleep.
Song Youning used to be so busy at work that he wished he could use every minute as two. Time was so tight that he could only sleep for three hours a day. He often caught up on his sleep on the way to work. If he could fall asleep in such an environment, how noisy could the hospital be?
In the end, she really didn't fall asleep.
At night, nurses would occasionally walk by the hospital to make rounds, and you could faintly hear the painful groans of the patient next door who was suffering from illness, accompanied by the "beeping" sound of the monitor next to your ear. In the middle of the night, all these sounds seemed to be amplified, making people irritable and annoyed.
After failing to fall asleep for the sixth time in bed, Song Youning opened his eyes.
The lights in the ward were turned off, only the monitoring light at Grandma Ji's bedside was still working. Ji Siyun was sitting opposite the bed.
Under the dim light, Ji Siyun's eye sockets were sunken, leaving a shadow under his prominent brow bone. His eyes were closed and he was dozing off in the chair.
Song Youning stared at him for several minutes, and her tall figure gradually lowered so low that she almost sank into the chair. She slowly lifted the quilt and was about to get out of bed quietly, but the dozing Ji Siyun seemed to sense something and suddenly opened his eyes.
In the dim light, the dark eyes suddenly lit up. For a moment, Song Youning felt the hairs on his body stand on end because of the cold gaze, but soon, the eyes softened and he returned to his usual submissive look.
Since he was awake, Song Youning simply didn't go over there by herself. She raised her hand and beckoned at him. Ji Siyun didn't know what she was going to do, but still dragged her exhausted body to stand up and walked to her, looking at her with confusion in his eyes.
Song Youning moved to the left, leaving half of the bed empty, and whispered to him, "Come up."
Ji Siyun's narrow eyes suddenly widened. He looked at the drawn bed curtains, then looked at Song Youning who was sitting on the bed and asked him to sleep with her seriously. His face suddenly turned red.
