Chapter 43 Red Eyes
Four days after Christmas is Ji Siyun's birthday. At this time in previous years, Ji Siyun would have made time to celebrate his birthday with Song Youning early on, but this year, he was still on a business trip until the night before his birthday.
The person who used to send countless messages to Song Youning every day has been unusually silent since this morning, as if he was so busy that he forgot what day tomorrow was.
But Song Youning seemed not to care about it.
Song's father and mother will be traveling abroad until the New Year before they come back. Song Youning is the only one in the huge villa. She used to be busy with work and had no other hobbies. After she traveled through time and space, her only pastime was reading novels.
Some time ago, she went to the hospital because of eye discomfort. After diagnosis, the doctor said that she had been looking at electronic products for too long and overstrained her eyes. After she came back, Ji Siyun strictly controlled her time for reading novels. Ji Siyun was away these days, and Song Youning had no worries as no one was watching over her.
As expected, after staring at the phone screen for a few days, her eyes started to hurt again.
When going downstairs for dinner, Song Youning rubbed his eyes several times and was seen by Aunt Chen who came to change the plates.
Halfway through the meal, Song Youning couldn't ignore the feeling of being on edge. She turned around and lay at the kitchen door, watching her Aunt Chen being caught red-handed, smiling at her awkwardly.
Aunt Chen has worked in the Song family for decades and has no other problems except gossip, so Song Youning is quite patient and talks more to her.
She put down her chopsticks, her expression somewhat helpless, and sighed as she asked, "Aunt Chen, is there something wrong? You've been staring at me for a long time."
After being pointed out directly by Song Youning, Aunt Chen came out with her apron in her hands and laughed dryly: "I just want to ask Miss, what would you like to eat tomorrow?"
Song Youning frowned slightly, not quite understanding why it was so embarrassing to ask such a question and why he needed to peek at her for so long.
She thought about it and said indifferently: "Just like usual, whatever."
"How can that be? Tomorrow..." Aunt Chen hesitated, secretly glanced at her face, and changed the subject abruptly: "Miss, will your son-in-law be back tomorrow?"
Why did you suddenly mention Ji Siyun?
Song Youning realized that tomorrow was his birthday. Aunt Chen asked what they wanted to eat tomorrow. Maybe she was planning to celebrate Ji Siyun's birthday?
She shook her head, her expression calm, "I don't know, probably not coming back."
Aunt Chen was shocked, and then she saw Song Youning sitting there with an expressionless face and red eyes, staring at her - tomorrow is the young lady's birthday, and Young Master Ji is not coming back to spend it with her, no wonder she is in a bad mood.
Look at those red eyes, he must have cried upstairs.
The same thing goes for the husband and his wife. They're so old, yet they're still going abroad to enjoy a life of their own. They didn't even come back for their only precious daughter's birthday. Her poor daughter will have to celebrate her birthday all alone in this deserted villa tomorrow...
Thinking of this, Aunt Chen's expression became firm, and she said to Song Youning, "Don't worry, Miss! Tomorrow I will definitely use my best skills to prepare a big meal!"
"?" Song Youning looked at her in surprise, as she was rubbing her hands together as if ready to do something big. He couldn't figure out where her sudden enthusiasm came from. Just as he was about to say no, Aunt Chen had already rolled up her sleeves and went into the kitchen.
He kept muttering, "Let me see what vegetables are in the refrigerator. I'll go to the market early tomorrow morning..."
"No need, Aunt Chen..." Song Youning's weak voice was ignored by her.
Song Youning sighed in his heart: Ji Siyun will not come back tomorrow, so there is no point in preparing all those things.
The system said at the right moment: "She prepared it for you."
"Prepare for me?" Song Youning was even more confused. She could hear Aunt Chen rummaging through the kitchen cabinets. She turned back to the system and said, "Why are you preparing a feast for me for no reason?"
The system reminded her: "Host, you forgot again. Tomorrow is not only Ji Siyun's birthday, but also your birthday."
"My birthday?"
Song Youning finally remembered that the original owner and Ji Siyun were born on the same day of the same month of the same year.
Her own birthday is in September, and even though she has been here for three years, she still forgets that "Song Youning"'s birthday is also tomorrow.
She sighed, her eyes were still very dry, and she rubbed them again. Song Youning lost her appetite.
He vaguely remembered that the eye drops prescribed by the hospital last time had not been used up, so he returned to the room to look for them, but these things were usually collected by Ji Siyun, and Song Youning didn't know where he put them.
Unable to find medicine, her eyes were dry and sore. She didn't dare look at her phone anymore and simply went to the bathroom to wash up and get ready for bed. When she looked in the mirror, she found that her eyes were red, and at first glance it looked like she had just cried.
She was stunned for a moment and asked the system: "I just went downstairs to eat in this state?"
"Yes, host."
With a helpless arc on the corner of his mouth, Song Youning understood why Aunt Chen looked at him that way - she thought he was crying because no one was with him on his birthday.
No wonder... Oh, never mind, I won’t explain.
"Host, do you think Ji Siyun will come back tomorrow?"
Song Youning squinted his eyes to try to relieve the discomfort in his eyes and replied, "Yes."
Her confident tone was completely different from the one she had just used to answer Aunt Chen. The system was puzzled: "Didn't you just say you weren't sure?"
Song Youning tied her hair in front of the mirror, speaking in a casual tone.
"I forgot that tomorrow is my birthday."
"You mean, tomorrow is your birthday, so Ji Siyun will definitely come back to celebrate it for you?" The system curled its lips, "Host, aren't you a little too confident?"
The woman in the mirror raised her eyebrows slightly, with a faint smile on her lips, as if the world was just a chess game in her eyes, and everything was under her control.
"certainly."
With her thick eyelashes drooping, Song Youning looked at the necklace around her neck - this was a Christmas gift from Ji Siyun a few days ago.
Song Youning's slender fingers gently twisted the chain and played with it. Her expression was gloomy, her rosy lips slightly parted, and her voice suddenly became very cold.
"How can he confess to me if he doesn't come back?"
Aunt Chen prepared tomorrow's menu. After sorting out the ingredients in the refrigerator, she carefully wrote down what she needed to buy tomorrow. However, she always felt that something was wrong.
She put on her reading glasses and carefully looked over the list several times to make sure she hadn't missed anything, but she lay in bed and still couldn't fall asleep.
As soon as I closed my eyes, I saw Song Youning's red eyes.
She came here to work when Song's mother was pregnant with Song Youning. She has been taking care of Song Youning since she was born. In Aunt Chen's heart, she has long regarded Song Youning as her own half-daughter.
She watched Song Youning grow from a small little girl to the beautiful and lively girl she is now. Seeing Song Youning sad because no one was with her on her birthday tomorrow, she felt a little sad too.
Song Youning used to hate the gloomy Ji Siyun and she pretended he didn't exist. But in recent years, Song Youning and Ji Siyun have become closer and closer, and their relationship has become better and better, and she has also changed her opinion of Ji Siyun a lot.
She also knew what people outside thought of the Song family. The nannies from different families were in private contact with each other. Aunt Chen knew that the young lady had few friends, especially in recent years, and she didn't even like to go out.
She saw how good Ji Siyun was to Song Youning - Aunt Chen hesitated for a long time, but finally picked up the phone.
City center hotel, rooftop restaurant.
The entire restaurant had become a sea of flowers, and staff members continued to bring in flowers. Ji Siyun, who was supposed to be on a business trip, frowned and asked Assistant Fang next to him.
"Are you sure this is okay?"
Assistant Fang nodded confidently: "Don't worry, Mr. Ji, this is called suppressing before praising. Miss Song must be very disappointed that you can't come back. If you suddenly appear at this time to surprise her, she will definitely be moved to tears!"
Ji Siyun's brows furrowed even deeper: "Crying?" He instantly regretted it: "Forget it, I'd better go back first."
Seeing Ji Siyun was about to leave, Assistant Fang quickly stopped him, "I was just exaggerating. I didn't really mean to make Miss Song cry."
He advised: "Boss Ji, you have been preparing for so long, don't let your efforts go to waste due to impulsiveness."
Seeing Ji Siyun's expression soften, Assistant Fang continued, "Don't you want to give Miss Song a grand confession ceremony?"
He retracted his foot after stepping forward. Ji Siyun had a cold face and swept his dark eyes over the staff who were arranging flowers at the scene. He stepped forward and began to supervise.
Assistant Fang picked up the tablet he had just finished looking at, slid to the next picture, and held it in front of Ji Siyun: "Mr. Ji, how about wearing this outfit tomorrow..."
While waiting for the scene to be set up, Ji Siyun was still a little uneasy.
A few days ago, on Christmas Eve, he was inconsiderate and failed to deliver the gift to her on Christmas Eve. Although he made up for it the next day, she must have been very disappointed the night before not receiving the gift.
Now it’s for tomorrow’s plan. He has already returned but still has to pretend to be out of town just to prepare for this “surprise”.
He wasn't quite sure whether what he was doing was right.
The phone in his pocket vibrated, and Ji Siyun picked it up - Aunt Chen.
Did something happen to Song Youning?
Thinking of this possibility, Ji Siyun pressed the answer button and asked anxiously: "What happened to her?"
His tone made Aunt Chen feel a little arrogant. Ever since Ji Siyun joined the Song family, he had become more and more outstanding, with an increasingly powerful aura and the demeanor of a superior. She was a little afraid of him.
Aunt Chen swallowed her saliva and said, "Miss, it's fine, it's just..."
The first half of her sentence made Ji Siyun feel relieved, but the second half made him feel nervous again.
"Just what? What happened to her?"
Aunt Chen hesitated for a moment, but thinking of Song Youning, she gritted her teeth and said, "The young lady seemed to have cried today. I saw her at dinner. Her eyes were red, like a rabbit's."
"Mr. and Mrs. Ji are abroad and won't be back. I heard that you, Master Ji, can't come back either. No one is there to celebrate her birthday with her. The young lady must be very sad..."
When Ji Siyun heard Aunt Chen say that Song Youning was crying, he was hit hard.
She is such a strong person, how sad must she be to cry so hard that even Aunt Chen noticed something was wrong.
Because of his selfishness, she was trapped in this small world, with no friends and nowhere to go except the Song family.
Now he believed in the saying "first suppress then praise", and he could have come back to accompany her earlier, but he said he couldn't come back, leaving her home alone.
He made her suffer again...
Ji Siyun wanted to slap himself twice. He was so stupid as to believe Assistant Fang's words and use this method.
All the talk of "first criticize and then praise" was thrown aside. Ji Siyun turned around, picked up the coat beside him, and strode out.
Assistant Fang was checking details with the designer when a gust of wind suddenly blew beside him. Ji Siyun was about to leave in big strides. He hurriedly called out, "Boss Ji, where are you going?"
Ji Siyun had a gloomy face and walked faster and faster.
"Go home and be with her."
