Chapter 39 Can you forgive me?
"Hello."
Ling Qiu opened the chat window she used to have with Cyrus, hesitated for a while, and then tried sending a message: "Are you there?"
She waited for a while, but there was no response from the other end, so Ling Qiu had to send another message.
“Um, Cyrus, I’d like to talk to you.” She hesitated. “Where are you now? Shall we meet and talk?”
After sending the message, Ling Qiu waited a while longer, but still received no reply...
Hmm... she thought that Cyrus probably wouldn't talk to her anymore.
She let go, and just as she tossed the computer aside, a line of text popped up on the silent screen.
Ling Qiu glanced at it; it was an address.
She replied immediately, "I'll come find you here tomorrow, Cyrus."
That's what she said, but Ling Qiu immediately went out. She felt that Cyrus's state was a bit strange... but she couldn't quite put her finger on what was strange. It was as if he could monitor her at any time, tease and retaliate against her at any time, but Ling Qiu always felt that familiar gaze was looming around her.
She turned on her location services and found that the address was in the suburbs, not very far, but Ling Qiu remembered that the area was very desolate...
Ling Qiu didn't know any means of transportation and could only walk. By the time she arrived at her destination, almost an hour had passed. She stood in front of an unfinished building and silently watched.
This unfinished building is in its most primitive form, with exposed bluish-gray cement. The top few floors even have exposed steel bars. Ling Qiu touched the back of his neck.
Cyrus lives here? How could she not believe it? With His abilities, surely He would at least be staying in a luxury hotel?
Or was Cyrus just playing a trick on her?
Ling Qiu couldn't say for sure. Such a desolate place wasn't safe for a free person like her, because she might encounter something like being robbed by a homeless person.
However, since she had already taken this step, she had no choice but to bite the bullet and go look for it; she couldn't just return empty-handed.
There was no elevator on the 14th floor, so Ling Qiu climbed slowly. By the time she reached the 9th floor, she was panting heavily and had to sit on the steps to rest for a while before continuing to climb.
We've finally arrived.
Ling Qiu started looking around. There were four or five rooms on this floor. Two of them had doors, while the rest did not. She guessed that if Cyrus was really here, he would probably choose a room with a door.
She quietly pushed open one of the doors and peeked around. The living room was empty, with nothing there. Just as Ling Qiu was about to leave and check out the other room, she suddenly heard a very faint, intermittent sound.
She pursed her lips, held her breath, and secretly gripped the stun gun in her pocket with one hand before slowly walking toward the source of the sound.
Step by step, the voice gradually became clearer, and she paused for a moment.
That must be Cyrus. He was squatting on the ground with his back to her. His body seemed to be the one they used when they first met. It was pale and had strange proportions, with long arms and legs.
And that strange sound was coming from Him, intermittent and faint, as if...
cry?
Ling Qiu clicked her tongue in disbelief; she increasingly felt that it sounded like crying, or something akin to sobbing…
Is Cyrus crying?
Oh dear, she really should come back tomorrow.
Ling Qiu turned around and, step by step, silently, prepared to leave.
During this time, she couldn't help but glance back at Cyrus, but when she turned around, Cyrus's spot was empty; he had vanished!
Ling Qiu's heart skipped a beat. Where did they go?
A sense of danger arose within her, and Ling Qiu turned and ran. However, the door was already locked from the inside, or rather, it wasn't locked at all, but she just couldn't open it no matter what she did.
A huge shadow fell down, covering her entire body. Ling Qiu turned around abruptly, pressed her back against the door panel warily, and stared at the enormous monster.
It looked strange, huge and black, roughly the same as what she had seen that night, but since it was still daytime and the light of dusk was better than at night, Ling Qiu could see it more clearly.
She saw the tendrils flowing across His body, but still couldn't find His face, though she could still feel the intense gaze upon Him.
"...Were you crying just now?" Ling Qiu, whose brain had completely shut down, was deliberately bringing up the very thing she didn't want to talk about.
After asking the question, she felt it was a bit inappropriate. She nervously pinched the hem of her clothes and said, "Ah... actually, I wanted to confirm something with you."
“That day in the illusion, I saw Huanyu Company make a deal with the evil god… Huanyu caused that explosion in order to gather enough offerings. Ah, I just want to ask you… was that evil god you?” Ling Qiu stared wide-eyed at Cyrus, even though she couldn’t find His eyes, she still tried her best to stare.
After a long pause, she heard Yeshus retort, "What do you think? Do you think I am?"
Then, a hint of mockery crept into his voice: "So, you think I am, that's why you treated me that way."
He is not that evil god; the evil god is someone else.
Ling Qiu is a very good liar. On the way here, she was actually thinking about how to find an excuse, and she found a few that sounded plausible.
For example, why did the temple begin to rise as soon as Cyrus appeared?
Why did a funny face suddenly appear when she was looking at photos on her computer? And the expression on that face just happened to match Cyrus's.
...
But right now, Ling Qiu suddenly didn't want to make up any excuses.
She lowered her eyes and said dryly, "I'm sorry... Bobo, I thought it was you, so I misunderstood."
“You…” She still subconsciously tried to make amends for herself, “When I came out of the illusion, you were gone. I thought you were hiding from me because you felt guilty.”
"..." He was silent for a moment, "If that's the case, why should I show you that past? Why would I go through all that trouble?"
“I thought…you didn’t care about me.” Ling Qiu’s voice trailed off. “You didn’t care about my wishes because, as you know, I can’t resist.”
He remained silent for a long time.
"So, you came to me just to say this?" He asked.
"And..." Ling Qiu bit her lip. She suddenly realized that she was being a bit bad. Even now, when she was apologizing to Cyrus in such a humble manner, she wasn't apologizing sincerely. It was because... Cyrus was still useful to her, and she needed Cyrus.
But she was a little hesitant to mention this reason; if she did, she would be too wicked.
"Hmm... it's too pitiful for you to live here. Why don't you come home with me?" Ling Qiu looked up, her expression cautious.
“It’s not necessary,” He said. “We broke up a long time ago.”
“Oh dear…” Ling Qiu was really bad at handling this kind of situation. “Then let’s break up… Why did you run out and say you were going to save me when I was surrounded by cultists?”
"Good question." Cyrus almost laughed in exasperation. "I'd also like to know why I insisted on talking to you in the first place! I was clearly struggling to solve my own problems!"
Ling Qiu caught the key phrase: "Your problem? What problem? What's wrong with you?"
Cyrus fell silent again. "Are you hurt?" Ling Qiu stepped forward and couldn't help but reach out and touch Cyrus a few times. The touch on her fingertips was sticky and slippery, and she couldn't feel anything.
"Sethius?" Ling Qiu didn't hear Him speak, so she couldn't help but ask again, "Are you injured? Is it... because of me?"
She and Cyrus had only been separated for less than a day! How could He be injured?
He is so powerful, so omnipotent, unless... unless He was already injured.
Ling Qiu had already connected all the strange occurrences in her mind.
"Was it because you teleported me back to see that past that you got hurt?" Ling Qiu asked, unable to hide her shock. She couldn't help but deny it; how could that be?
How could a monster get hurt for the sake of humans?
But it seems there are no other possibilities.
He remained silent, seemingly unwilling to speak, but Ling Qiu already knew the answer.
If it really isn't true, He will deny it.
"So were you really crying just now?" Ling Qiu tentatively hugged a part of His body, though she wasn't sure which part it was.
"I'm sorry, Popo, I didn't know... You should have told me."
"I apologize to you, can you forgive me?" Ling Qiu asked.
At this point, she no longer cared so much about whether Cyrus would let her use her again; she felt a little sorry for Cyrus.
They clearly received so many benefits from Him, yet when the unexpected happened, they were the first to doubt Him.
She was so angry at the time that she didn't even consider the possibility that it wasn't Cyrus.
"..." Cyrus pursed his lips tightly. Impossible. He would not forgive her so easily. He would definitely make fun of her and let her know how powerful he was, so that she would be obedient from now on.
But when Ling Qiu looked up at him with teary eyes, Cyrus just thought... well, she was just throwing a little tantrum.
“…I will only forgive you this once, Ling Qiu,” He said in a slightly hoarse voice.
