Chapter 19 General Tan

Pei Yuanhui remained motionless upon hearing the sound, lazily raising his hand to place a piece on the chessboard.

"The imperial physician has come to see me, and I have been feeling much better these past few days." Compared to the Emperor, Huo Qinghe was slower in placing her pieces, but fearing she might spoil his mood, she didn't dare to think for too long.

She wasn't thanking him for what happened at Cining Palace during the day; she was thanking the imperial physician for examining her pulse.

Upon hearing the words "Imperial Physician," Pei Yuanhui finally gave Huo Qinghe a proper look.

Pei Yuanhui could not read Xiao Huo's thoughts from her slightly lowered brows, but in the past few encounters, he seemed to have never heard Xiao Huo's thoughts before.

This is also why he thought of calling out Xiao Huo's name today.

Now that he had finally gotten the peace and quiet he wanted, Pei Yuanhui suddenly felt a little uneasy.

He suddenly sat up and moved a few steps closer to Huo Qinghe. The small table on the couch separated the two of them, but their breaths were so close they were almost burning hot.

"That day, your hand felt cold to the touch. The imperial physician said you were fine? If you're fine, just take good care of yourself." Pei Yuanhui stared at Huo Qinghe's trembling eyelashes. In the dim candlelight, the beauty's face was flushed, but his eyes held a strange look.

Huo Qinghe seemed a little shy, and a few teeth marks could be seen on her lower lip when she spoke: "Your Majesty, I thank you for your concern."

Where Pei Yuanhui couldn't see, Huo Qinghe's hands, which were hanging down inside her loose nightgown, gradually tightened.

Pei Yuanhui stared intently at Huo Qinghe's lips, his voice slightly hoarse as he moved them slightly: "Settle her in."

Upon seeing this, Huo Qinghe put down the chess piece in her hand, lowered her head, and tilted her snow-white neck slightly: "Your Majesty, please forgive my rudeness."

She said this, but she had something on her mind.

So when Huo Qinghe stood up, she didn't notice the white patch next to the couch. By the time she realized it, her shoes had instinctively shifted to one side.

However, she lost her balance and fell, but she did not fall towards the official.

She instinctively fell backward, a gasp escaping her lips. Her arm slammed into the small table behind her, the pain instantly bringing tears to her eyes.

The curled-up white ball of fur lazily stretched out once, then crawled onto Huo Qinghe's shoe and found a comfortable position to lie down.

Huo Qinghe hadn't even noticed when a cat had run in.

"The concubine has acted improperly."

Pei Yuanhui thought inappropriately that Xiao Huo's trembling voice was really pleasant to hear.

He leaned down slightly and grabbed the snow-white cat by the neck, causing the cat to hiss in dissatisfaction.

"Naughty, Tan Nu." He tossed Tan Nu onto the soft couch to prevent her from getting covered in fur again.

He raised his hand again and extended it to Huo Qinghe.

Huo Qinghe straightened her back, her eyes glistening with tears, and her soft hand trembled as she placed it in the official's large hand.

"Why are your hands still so cold?" Pei Yuanhui frowned and tightened his grip on Huo Qinghe's hand.

He didn't notice Huo Qinghe's arm that had been hit. When he pulled Huo Qinghe, he used quite a bit of force, causing her forearm to ache slightly.

Huo Qinghe didn't say a word until her nightgown was removed, revealing her bruised forearm, which was extremely conspicuous.

Pei Yuanhui had no idea what Huo Qinghe was thinking at that moment, so he clicked his tongue.

"Your temperament isn't good." He said with a mischievous grin, pinching Huo Qinghe's forearm, which had been bruised from the impact.

Huo Qinghe naturally hissed softly in pain, and her cry of "Your Majesty" made her feel weak all over.

"Isn't this perfect?" Pei Yuanhui laughed loudly and leaned closer.

He looked directly into Huo Qinghe's almond-shaped eyes and pinched her chin as if teasing a slave, but in a way that felt much more comfortable than pinching a slave.

The room was filled with fragrance, needless to say.

...

The water was called twice more in the West Warm Pavilion, and when Pei Yuanhui came out, he heard Jin Yang's thoughts again.

I thought His Majesty would be staying in the West Warm Pavilion today. Well... Consort Huo is...

Pei Yuanhui didn't hear the rest of Jin Yang's heartfelt words because Jin Yang had lowered his head.

Yes, the government has a secret.

As far back as he can remember, he can hear the thoughts of anyone who makes eye contact with him.

At first, it might seem novel, but after hearing too many hypocritical and deceitful people's true feelings, it becomes quite boring.

As time went on, Pei Yuanhui grew tired of it.

But now, it seems that things are finally starting to look a little different.

Pei Yuanhui became interested: "Let's play pitch-pot!"

In the dead of night, Jin Yang was already used to the Emperor's unpredictable actions. After all, the Emperor was young and energetic, and it was already early for him to rest and settle down.

...

The next morning, Huo Qinghe was startled again by Tan Nu at her feet when she got up.

Tan Nu must have been a name given to her by the Emperor. Huo Qinghe silently withdrew her foot.

This cat named Tannu is very quiet, no wonder she was "frightened" last night.

But she wasn't completely frightened. She didn't find Tan Nu when she entered the West Warm Pavilion last night, but when she was playing chess with the Emperor on the bed, she noticed cat hair on the table and that's when she became suspicious.

At this moment, Huo Qinghe bent down and touched Tan Nu: "Is this His Majesty's pet?"

The palace maid smiled and said, "This was presented by General Yulin. His Majesty specially named him General Tan, as he has always been a favorite of His Majesty."

General Yu Lin? Huo Qinghe remembered him; he was Consort Chi's younger brother. She silently withdrew her hand: "He looks very well raised."

The palace maids all laughed and said yes, and while serving Huo Qinghe in washing and dressing, they also told her some interesting stories about General Tan.

Huo Qinghe left the West Warm Pavilion rather late this time, but since she didn't need to go to the Kunning Palace to pay her respects today, she wasn't in such a hurry.

Last night was rather absurdly late, and Huo Qinghe was still feeling unwell. By the time she returned to Yanliang Pavilion, it was almost noon.

Huo Qinghe reluctantly ate a bowl of sweet porridge, and soon after, she heard that Physician Xia had arrived.

Who invited the imperial physician this time?

Huo Qinghe had just thanked the Emperor last night, and she felt it was unlikely that the Emperor had summoned the imperial physician.

Sure enough, it was the imperial physician whom Huo Yiyun had summoned.

It's quite strange that Huo Yiyun cares about her health, and the Emperor also cares about her health.

Last night, Huo Qinghe deliberately brought up the matter of mentioning the imperial physician. Is there something fishy about this?

After the imperial physician came in and examined Huo Qinghe's pulse, his explanation was no different from last time. After all, less than half a month had passed, so how much could Huo Qinghe's body have changed?

Huo Qinghe's life in the Huo family was not very good before. She mostly relied on her own efforts and had not seen many good things, but her health was not too weak.

However, the imperial physician still advised Huo Qinghe to take more nourishing supplements.

At noon, the imperial kitchen sent someone to deliver rock sugar bird's nest, saying that it was specially prepared for Lady Yi of Xianfu Palace.

There are no more spies of Huo Yiyun in the Left and Right Yanliang Pavilion now, so when Huo Qinghe doesn't want to eat, she usually lets Lvhuai and the others take it away and divide it up.

She simply couldn't get used to the taste of bird's nest, and now Huo Qinghe didn't want her body to be too healthy.

She quietly practiced playing the pipa every day, and within two days, Consort Zhou was released from confinement in the main hall.

After the Emperor summoned Huo Qinghe again, he did not summon any of his concubines for several days.

The Dragon Boat Festival is fast approaching without us even realizing it.
