Chapter Fifteen
The film studio was getting busier every day, and Su Xian was having a pleasant time working with Liu Zichun, who played the male lead Mo Ling. Liu Zichun was a child star, a few years younger than her, and had a certain amount of popularity and fame, but what impressed Su Xian was that his performance did not fall into a formulaic pattern.
During the script reading, Su Xian discovered that he had a good understanding of the character. On set, he often discussed and exchanged ideas with Su Xian, which gave her some inspiration.
However, the person who came to visit Liu Zichun today surprised Su Xian; it was Liu Xiling.
During dinner, Qingqing closed the RV door and gave Su Xian a proper introduction to the "Shuangliu" CP, Liu Xiling and Liu Zichun, from the popular fantasy drama "Lingxin".
When Qingqing was watching the show, Su Xian also watched some clips. "Wasn't Liu Zichun the second male lead in that show? Wasn't the official pairing the male and female leads?"
"Yes, but there are also quite a few people who ship the female lead and the second male lead as a couple."
“People told me that Liu Xiling and the male lead probably really had something going on during filming. But during the time the drama was airing, she somehow got together with Liu Zichun.”
"Judging from this, it's still ongoing." Qingqing picked up a piece of bitter melon and scrambled eggs, then picked the bitter melon away with disgust. "Liu Xiling has a pretty bad temper, and she keeps changing her assistants. I don't know what Liu Zichun sees in her. I think he's quite reliable."
Su Xian had the same question in his mind, but by the afternoon, he understood that Liu Xiling was very good at acting cute and charming, although, in Qingqing's words, she was just pretending to be cute.
Men probably all like this.
After Liu Xiling arrived, Liu Zichun seemed to have a tail on him, and she interrupted him several times when he was discussing the filming content with Su Xian. Liu Xiling had a charmingly innocent look on her face, but her eyes revealed displeasure.
Su Xian couldn't help but suspect that Liu Xiling had come to visit the set because of her, but she also found the idea ridiculous, as she wasn't someone without boundaries. She even specifically asked Qingqing if she had done anything inappropriate.
"Of course not, Sister Xiaoxian, don't overthink it. You can't understand Liu Xiling's thought process," Qingqing told her.
Two days later, Su Xian did not see Liu Xiling again. Qingqing found out that someone heard arguing in Liu Zichun's RV, so she guessed that she had been kicked out.
Su Xian didn't take it to heart. She believed that she and Liu Zichun were just ordinary work partners. Therefore, Su Xian's communication with him always remained within a normal range. She neither wanted to get closer to him nor deliberately distanced herself because of Liu Xiling.
After working through the night, Su Xian took two days off and flew back to Hong Kong to attend the opening ceremony of Holmes' first hotel in Greater China.
She wasn't really keen on attending the event, firstly because she rarely took time off during filming to avoid affecting her character's performance; and secondly because she felt she might see Lin Zhiyuan at the event, and she had no idea how to face him.
Su Xian only told Bai Lin about her first concern, and of course, she was met with opposition.
"Other artists wouldn't even be qualified to participate in such an important event! Making an exception once in a while is no big deal."
The most important reason, even without Bai Lin saying it, is something Su Xian knows: it's stipulated in the endorsement contract. No matter how much she cares about Lin Zhiyuan, she can't breach the contract.
It had rained all night the previous night, and the ground wasn't completely dry before being baked by the sun, making the air even more humid and hot. Su Xian was exhausted and went back to the courtyard to lie down and sleep. When she woke up in the afternoon, she had just walked into the living room in a daze when she was startled awake by a loud "Ah!" Bai Lin's voice was so shrill that she almost didn't recognize her.
"Isn't this the safety pin dress that made Christie famous 20 years ago?"
"What do you mean by becoming famous overnight?" Qingqing held up her skirt, looking completely bewildered.
Su Xian picked up a sandwich from the table, walked to the coat rack, and started taking big bites.
"Christie wore this dress to a dinner party with her boyfriend 20 years ago. At that time, she was on the cover of foreign gossip magazines, and Holmes also received a lot of attention because of her."
"Let me find some pictures." Bai Lin's fingers quickly typed a search on her phone. "This one might be a collector's item; I didn't expect to lend it to you."
Su Xian took Bai Lin's phone, and Qingqing also came over, saying, "She has such a great figure."
Just as Qingqing said, Christie is a famous supermodel, so she naturally looks stunning in this dress. Standing next to her boyfriend, they are a perfect match, no wonder she became famous overnight. Su Xian couldn't help but wonder if this dress was suitable for her.
"I was also surprised when Holmes told me it was this dress, and then there was this too." Su Xuan's stylist, Han Yi, took out a black velvet jewelry box from the cardboard box and opened it.
The four people surrounding the jewelry box all had their mouths open, but no sound came out. As for gorgeous jewelry, everyone has seen a lot of it, but what makes these pieces special is their ingenuity.
A pair of pure gold earrings, with a few small diamonds hanging from a delicate chain under an openwork crescent moon design; a diamond necklace, only upon closer inspection can one discover that each diamond is connected by a rose knot.
The most unique items were the two rings. The bands were not closed; one was a crescent moon studded with small diamonds, and the other had a small sapphire, like stars and the moon echoing each other. Su Xian took a liking to them at first sight and reached out to take them off and put them on the index and middle fingers of her right hand.
"It fits perfectly, like it was made just for you," Qingqing murmured to herself.
"It's so beautiful. The theme of this jewelry set should be stars and the moon, right? I wonder if it's for sale. I just need to buy a pair of earrings." Han Yi picked up the earrings and held them up in the mirror.
"Collector's items, haute couture, plus specially customized jewelry—it's got the prestige to the max." Bai Lin looked quite smug, probably thinking about how to market it.
Su Xian was secretly thinking that if it were really released, it would be best to buy a set, and if that wasn't possible, at least buy the pair of rings.
"Alright, alright! Hurry up and get your makeup done and clothes changed."
Bai Lin's urging brought everyone back to reality. Han Yi pressed Su Xian down to sit in front of the dressing table, first blowing her shoulder-length hair to make it fluffy, then curling the ends inwards to reveal her delicate face. To match the outfit, Han Yi softened the sharpness of Su Xian's eyes with her makeup, creating a mature and charming look.
With a soft click, Su Xian, now dressed in her formal attire, came out.
"Oh my god! It's so beautiful!" Qingqing's eyes lit up.
Su Xian turned around in front of the mirror, wearing a black deep V-neck dress. Her full breasts were half-hidden, and the right side of the dress was openwork, decorated with several large gold brooches, revealing her slender waist. Below that was a high slit in the skirt, revealing her long legs in a way that was both alluring and shy.
"Will this suit me?" This was the first time Su Xuan had ever worn such a sexy dress.
"No way! Others wouldn't have such a great figure even if they wanted to wear this." Bai Lin said excitedly, "Your look is definitely top-tier for the year."
"I don't have a figure as good as Christie's." Su Xuan was still a little hesitant.
"Don't worry, many people envy your figure, and everyone has their own kind of beauty." Han Yi walked behind her, placed the necklace on her collarbone, and fastened the clasp.
“That’s true, everyone has their own unique characteristics.” Su Xian stood in front of the mirror, treating it as a breakthrough.
"I can't wait to trend on social media tonight."
Qingqing was excited, and Su Xian couldn't help but reach out and rub her round little face. "Then let's set off quickly."
As night fell, the curtain slowly rose on the world of fame and fortune. Business tycoons gathered at the Holmes Hotel, while photographers from all walks of life crowded in front of the red carpet, sweating profusely.
The black Mercedes pulled up, the door opened, and a pair of slender, white legs in black high heels stepped onto the ground. A black skirt draped down, revealing long, shapely legs from the side. The person inside the car walked steadily onto the red carpet and stood there. Instantly, all the flashbulbs went off, illuminating the entire scene in a blinding white light.
Su Xian's arms were naturally crossed in front of her, her posture noble. Even if someone was attracted by her graceful figure, they would not dare to easily defile her.
"Teacher Su, look here."
"here."
The calls of Su Xian's name rose and fell, and she maintained a perfect smile throughout, trying her best to accommodate the cameras from different directions. Su Xian took the gold pen from the hostess, signed her name on the display board, waved, and entered the inner area.
Han Yi quickly stepped forward to fix her hair and makeup, while Qing Qing handed her her handbag. There were indeed quite a few people at the party; almost all the prominent figures in Hong Kong were present. Su Xian glanced around but didn't see Lin Zhiyuan, and she couldn't tell whether she was happy or unhappy.
Su Xian took out her phone, but still no messages from him. Perhaps he was busy because of the hotel's opening. She then realized that even though it had only been a day since she'd received a message, she was already making excuses for Lin Zhiyuan.
Whether she saw him or not, he always stirred her emotions.
Su Xian put her phone back in her bag and followed Bai Lin to socialize among the Holmes executives. Bai Lin drank quite a bit, while Su Xian merely held a glass of champagne as decoration. Seeing that the public relations efforts were almost complete, Bai Lin decided to leave with Su Xian.
"I'm going to the restroom first," Bai Lin said, gently supporting her hand.
How are you?
"Don't worry, it's just champagne."
Su Xian was a little worried, so she asked Qingqing to accompany Bai Lin inside to wait. She opened her handbag, took out her phone, and saw two missed calls from Zhang Zhiran's mother. She quickly called them back.
"Auntie, hello, I'm sorry I didn't check my phone just now."
"It's alright, Xiaoxian, I was just sorry to bother you."
"It's alright, Auntie. Is there anything I can help you with?"
Aunt Zhang sighed, "It's like this, last night... because of some things, Zhi Ran got angry with us. I thought she'd be fine after a good night's sleep, but she actually locked herself in her room and wouldn't come out all day. She wouldn't answer anyone's knocks, and she wouldn't even eat. How can this be allowed? I thought she was close to you..."
"Auntie, don't worry, I'll make a call and ask her."
After hanging up the phone, Su Xian called Zhi Ran, but no one answered. Remembering the increasingly anxious tone in Aunt Zhang's voice on the phone, Su Xian thought for a moment and then dialed Aunt Zhang's number again.
“Auntie, I just called, but Zhiran didn’t answer. If it’s convenient for you, I’d like to come to your house and see if she’d be willing to see me.”
"Okay, okay, I'll wait for you at home."
Su Xian tried again, but Zhi Ran still didn't answer the phone. Bai Lin happened to come out of the bathroom, and didn't seem to be in any discomfort.
"Sister Lin, I'll go to Zhi Ran's house first, and then have the driver take you back."
Bai Lin nodded. "Is everything alright?"
"It should be nothing," Su Xuan replied, but she wasn't entirely sure.
Based on her understanding of Zhi Ran's family, Zhi Ran's parents doted on their only daughter quite a bit; otherwise, they wouldn't have allowed her to debut as a star. However, Zhi Ran wasn't usually unreasonable or willful in front of her parents, and this was the first time she had made such a big fuss.
It seems we'll have to meet them to find out what's going on.
