Chapter Thirty-Five
The annual Golden Deer Awards have announced their nominees. As the most prestigious award in the television industry, it is the dream of countless people, and Su Xian is no exception.
"Snow Abyss" received as many as 10 award nominations, including Best Actress.
According to media and audience predictions, the Best Actress award is most likely to be decided between veteran actress Jiang Bei and Su Xuan. Jiang Bei was nominated for her role in the biographical drama "Police Officer," which tells the story of a grassroots policewoman. Compared to martial arts dramas, this role is more likely to be favored by the jury.
Su Xuan understood this as well. Although she didn't expect to win on her first nomination, she still had a little bit of hope in her heart. This little bit of trepidation was enough to keep her tossing and turning on the night before the awards ceremony.
A strong arm wrapped around her waist from behind. Su Xian turned around and asked apologetically, "Did I wake you up?"
Lin Zhiyuan hugged her, "Can't sleep because you're thinking about your acceptance speech?"
She teased her again, and Su Xian gently pinched his back.
Lin Zhiyuan chuckled softly, “When I was a teenager, I represented my school in a debate competition for the first time. I was the youngest on the team, and my palms were sweating when I sat on the stage. I didn’t realize I was drenched in sweat until the debate was over.”
"And then what?"
"Our team was eliminated in the preliminary round. It wasn't until three years later that I led the team to the finals, but unfortunately we didn't win the championship."
"Actually, the process is more important than the result, isn't it?"
Su Xuan sighed, "I understand the logic, but I still can't help but think about what I'll do if I win the award, and what I'll do if I don't?"
"That's normal. How about I chat with you for a bit?"
"Okay." Su Xian moved up a little, resting her neck on Lin Zhiyuan's arm, but he still didn't speak after a while. She didn't know what to say, and just as she was thinking about whether to tell him to go to sleep first, Lin Zhiyuan spoke.
"I'd like to have Allen find someone to come over soon and add your name to the land and house deeds here." His voice was calm and even in the darkness, as if he were talking about a trivial matter, but it stirred up huge waves in Su Xuan's heart.
"Why?"
"There aren't many whys, I just want you to be the lady of the house, is that alright?"
Lin Zhiyuan affectionately pinched her earlobe, and Su Xian felt ticklish, so she rubbed against him and avoided his hand.
"Should I add your name to the property deed for the courtyard?"
"I'm just doing what I want to do."
Therefore, he did not force her to do the same.
"I'd rather not. There's a saying: 'One should not accept a reward without merit,'" Su Xian said.
"Then I'll give you credit for your contribution."
Su Xian asked curiously, "What merit?"
Lin Zhiyuan gently bit her earlobe and whispered, "Why don't we stop taking the medicine and have a baby?"
"Oh no." Su Xian grabbed his hand as he tried to slip it inside his nightgown.
“Yes, it’s really not good.” Lin Zhiyuan’s voice was tinged with mockery. “Having one child is really not good, and two is a bit too few. You need at least three or four, so that the family will be lively and bustling.”
"I never agreed to have a baby with you." Su Xian was very embarrassed and annoyed. She turned around and moved closer to the window, her back to Lin Zhiyuan. "Three or four? I'm not a little sow." Su Xian snorted.
"Alright, alright, I'll do whatever you say, however many we have." Lin Zhiyuan moved behind her relentlessly, wrapping his arms tightly around her waist. "When we were little, it was just my sister and me at home, and the manor was so big, it always felt empty."
Su Xian thought Lin Zhiyuan was going to talk about his childhood and was about to listen carefully when she heard him say, "So if we only have one or two children, we'll move to your little courtyard. It'll be cozy and warm when we're all crammed together. If we have three or more, we'll stay here. It'll be lively."
Lin Zhiyuan was very serious, as if he were planning some major business decision. Su Xian was quite helpless, "Then you can dream for a while."
"Okay, as you wish!" Lin Zhiyuan kissed her cheek. "You also need to sleep, otherwise you'll complain about not looking good on the red carpet tomorrow."
Su Xuan was very frustrated. "I can't sleep."
"Well... I'll read to you. Don't you always get sleepy when you read that book, 'The Language of Art'?"
"But your voice is so beautiful, the more I listen to it, the less I can sleep."
"Try it. It can distract you from overthinking and make you feel more relaxed." Lin Zhiyuan turned on the reading light. "Let me see where you are in your reading." He propped himself up on the bed with a pillow, reached for the book on the bedside table, and opened it.
"'To create a realistic picture is to reproduce the object as faithfully as possible as it is.' This simple parable puzzles me: because the object in front of me is a person, a cluster of atoms, a cluster of cells..."
Su Xian wrapped her arms around Lin Zhiyuan's waist, pressing herself tightly against him. Lin Zhiyuan held a book in one hand and gently stroked her hair with the other.
This simple tranquility put her at ease. His pajamas smelled wonderful; it was Su Xian's favorite scent, a scent of happiness.
In the hillside mansion, one of the original guest rooms has been transformed into Su Xuan's dressing room, complete with walnut wood clothes racks, jewelry boxes, dressing mirrors, and makeup mirrors.
Su Xian was quite surprised when she first saw the room. Lin Zhiyuan told her that he had already completed the renovation after returning from Tahiti, but he wanted to get it ready as soon as possible so that she wouldn't have to rush back to the courtyard to do her hair and makeup when she came to stay.
Bai Lin, Han Yi, and Qing Qing arrived at the hillside mansion for the first time, their expressions revealing undisguised envy. Su Xian, Bai Lin, and Han Yi had discussed the Golden Deer Awards ceremony for a long time, finally choosing a Holmes suit. The smooth fabric accentuated her sharp lines, the suit collar gathered at the chest, revealing her fair skin, and her hair was combed back, perfectly complementing Xue's style while maintaining a dignified air.
Apart from the star and moon ring she always wore, she wore no other jewelry.
A knock sounded on the door, and Su Xian turned around to see Lin Zhiyuan standing at the door.
"Mr. Lin," Bai Lin and the other two called out.
Lin Zhiyuan smiled and nodded. He was also wearing a suit, but unlike Su Xian, he wore a tie, making him look more formal. He would also be attending the awards ceremony today, but his seat was in the very front row.
Su Xian walked over, took his hand, and walked out the door together. "Remember to text me later to tell me where you are sitting. I'm afraid I'll be too nervous to check."
Lin Zhiyuan turned around and glanced at Bai Lin and the others following behind. "I think it's better to let Sister Lin and the others tell you directly where I'm sitting. I'm afraid you'll be too nervous to check your phone." Lin Zhiyuan squeezed her hand.
The servants closed the door and walked down the white stairs, where the black Phantom and the white Alpha awaited their respective owners.
Lin Zhiyuan gently hugged Su Xian and whispered in her ear, "No matter what the outcome, you will always be the best in my heart."
During the two-hour Golden Deer Awards ceremony, "Snow Abyss" won several important awards, including Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Screenplay, almost matching "Police Officer" in terms of the number of awards.
Finally, the most prestigious awards were presented: Best Actor and Best Actress. Last year's Best Actress, Chen Jun, and last year's Best Supporting Actor, Liu Jin, walked onto the stage. Su Xian sat calmly in his seat, but his heart was actually pounding.
After praising all the nominees for Best Actress this year, clips of their performances began playing on the big screen. Close-up shots focused on the faces of the nominees. Su Xian tried her best to keep her expression relaxed, but her hand, resting on her lap, tightly gripped the ring on her right index finger.
Her heart had never beaten so fast in her life.
"The winner of the Best Actress award at the 37th Golden Deer Awards is..." Su Xian clenched her hands tightly. She saw Chen Jun open the envelope and take out the card inside. She saw Chen Jun's eyes quickly scan her face, but Jiang Bei was also sitting next to her. Perhaps it was just her imagination.
"Su Xian".
Liu Jin's voice wasn't loud, and Su Xian's mind went blank. Was it her? She couldn't quite hear it; perhaps she had misheard. Suddenly, enthusiastic applause erupted, making Su Xian's ears ring. Jiang Bei leaned over and hugged her.
"It really is her," Su Xian murmured her thanks. She stood up, and people came to hug her again, men and women. Maybe it was Director Xu, maybe it was Liu Zichun, maybe it was someone else.
As Su Xuan walked down the aisle, she dazedly grasped the outstretched hands, hearing congratulations one after another. She subconsciously repeated "thank you."
It wasn't until she stepped onto the steps that Su Xian suddenly came to her senses. She really had won the Best Actress award, but she hadn't thought of an acceptance speech at all. She took the trophy from Chen Jun and Liu Jin. She realized how heavy the trophy was, and her hands trembled with excitement, almost unable to hold it.
Su Xian stood in front of the microphone, and the lively scene suddenly fell silent.
"Thank you, um... Yesterday I felt very lucky, yes, I already felt very lucky to be nominated for the Golden Deer Award, I didn't expect to be even luckier today than yesterday." Su Xian heard laughter from the audience.
Su Xian took a breath and continued, "Thank you Director Xu, thank you Shuying, thank you to all the staff of 'Snow Abyss,' thank you Liu Zichun, thank you Sister Chen Jun, and all the actors. Thank you all. Without you, there would be no 'Snow Abyss.'"
The lights were blindingly bright. Su Xian looked down at the audience and almost immediately spotted Lin Zhiyuan sitting in the middle of the front row. Despite the distance, she could still feel his gaze, his gentle, smiling face as always.
He was her most steadfast supporter. He silently protected her during her father's ordeal. When she was filming, he would feel sorry for her injuries and take care of her diet. When she insisted on helping Lu Ran with a cameo role in a movie, he was clearly angry, but he still gave in for her sake. For the sake of "Qing Zhuo", she went to the streets to stay with the homeless and observe their lives. He understood her and encouraged her.
Su Xian's eyes welled up with tears. She licked her slightly dry lips and continued, "I also want to thank... thank those who support me and love me." She looked at him bravely, "Without you, I wouldn't be who I am today."
"I will continue to work hard, thank you."
