Chapter 2 Invitation to the Graduation Party

"Buzz~ Buzz~ Buzz"

A sudden vibration came through my pocket; the phone was ringing!

Xiao Qingfeng took out his phone and glanced at it. The caller ID showed "Senior Ouyang".

Ouyang Lun was Xiao Qingfeng's senior at the Kyoto Conservatory of Music, two years ahead of Xiao Qingfeng.

After graduation, she stayed at the school as a vocal teacher and took good care of Xiao Qingfeng.

Xiao Qingfeng quickly pressed the answer button!

"Senior Ouyang, you're such a busy person, how come you have time to call me?"

"Don't give me that. I've seen it online that your group disbanded."

"Senior, you're really well-informed! That's right, the group broke up, and I was also fired by the company. Now, I'm unemployed!"

"......"

"This is their loss, don't take it to heart!"

Xiao Qingfeng grinned: "Senior Ouyang really has a discerning eye. Indeed, letting me go was definitely their most foolish decision!"

Ouyang Lun on the other end of the phone was a little surprised. Today's Xiao Qingfeng was quite different from the humble and polite junior he remembered.

Xiao Qingfeng exudes an unusual confidence today!

"It seems this matter hasn't affected you much, so I'm relieved!"

As soon as Ouyang Lun finished speaking, a familiar voice came from the other end of the phone!

"Hello, is this Qingfeng? This is Meng Xianghui!"

"Director Meng, hello!"

Meng Xianghui, head of the department at Kyoto Conservatory of Music.

"I heard you just terminated your contract with the company, so I guess you don't have any gigs right now. Come to the school tomorrow, I need to talk to you about something!"

Without a second thought, Xiao Qingfeng readily agreed, "Okay, Director, I'll come see you tomorrow!"

"Qingfeng, I'm retiring next year. This is the last graduation party I'll be leading for the music department. You absolutely have to perform on stage for me tomorrow!"

"What?"

Xiao Qingfeng hadn't expected it to be like this; he had originally thought it was just a trip to the school to visit the director and senior students.

But the department head has already said all that, and these are the last batch of students he will be teaching as department head, so I can't refuse to help!

After hanging up the phone, Xiao Qingfeng started thinking about what songs would be suitable to sing at the graduation ceremony.

After thinking for a while, Xiao Qingfeng had a plan in mind. When he got home, he turned on his computer and logged into the "China Original Music Copyright Network".

Huaxia Music Copyright Network is an official website run by Huaxia (China's leading music copyright authority) to address the chaotic copyright situation in music, songs, and original works.

Once an original song is completed, it cannot be released immediately. It must first be uploaded to the Huaxia Music Copyright website for review. After the review is completed, it will be archived and have legal effect.

One advantage is that the uploaded content can only be viewed by the uploader and the website's review staff, but the website cannot publish it without the uploader's authorization.

Having just suffered the loss of his original copyright, Xiao Qingfeng had to take copyright seriously.

Soon, Xiao Qingfeng uploaded the lyrics and sheet music for the two songs to the China Original Music Copyright Network.

Early the next morning, Xiao Qingfeng bought some gifts, carried two bottles of good wine, and headed to the Kyoto Conservatory of Music.

Meng Xianghui is the head of the music department, and Ouyang Lun is also a teacher in the music department. Both of them have their own independent faculty apartments.

Upon arriving at the school, Xiao Qingfeng called Ouyang Lun and learned that Ouyang Lun was at Meng Xianghui's house. Xiao Qingfeng then went straight to Meng Xianghui's apartment building.

As the head of the department, Meng Xianghui was allocated a separate villa by the college.

Xiao Qingfeng rang the doorbell, and the door opened quickly.

"Qingfeng, come in, come in!" Meng Xianghui greeted him warmly.

Xiao Qingfeng walked into the room and saw Ouyang Lun sitting on the sofa. He smiled and said, "Senior, it's been a long time! You've become even more handsome and dashing!"

Ouyang Lun rolled his eyes. "Stop being so cheeky. Who can be more handsome than you? You were the school's most handsome guy back then. I still remember your nickname: 'Jade-faced Young Master'."

Xiao Qingfeng was a little embarrassed; this nickname was just too cringeworthy!

Xiao Qingfeng put the gifts aside and joked, "Director, senior, I'm just telling the truth. Seeing you makes me feel sweeter than if I'd eaten honey!"

Meng Xianghui laughed heartily, "You little rascal, you've really gotten more and more cunning after being in the entertainment industry for so long. Come, sit down, let's have a good chat."

After Xiao Qingfeng sat down, Meng Xianghui said, "Qingfeng, I heard that your group's disbandment caused quite a stir, but with your talent, you can thrive anywhere."

Xiao Qingfeng shrugged. "Director, please don't try to comfort me. But this is a new beginning for me."

Ouyang Lun chimed in, "That's right, our Qingfeng is truly capable, they're sure to make a name for themselves in the future."

Xiao Qingfeng: "Senior, I'll have to rely on you to give me more guidance in the future."

"What's the point of promoting him? Just do your job well," Ouyang Lun said with a laugh.

Meng Xianghui looked at Xiao Qingfeng curiously and said, "Qingfeng, tell us quickly, what song have you prepared for tonight's graduation party?"

Xiao Qingfeng smiled and took out the sheet music for "The Wind Rises" and "Cherish" from his bag, handing them to the two of them.

Ouyang Lun and Meng Xianghui took the sheet music, and after glancing at it for a few moments, their eyes widened in disbelief.

Ouyang Lun's hands trembled slightly, his lips quivered, and he murmured, "This...this melody, these lyrics..."

Meng Xianghui took a deep breath, trying hard to suppress his excitement, and said, "Qingfeng, these two songs of yours are amazing! Take 'The Wind Rises' for example. The opening melody is gentle and soothing, as if it takes us into a beautiful memory. The middle section speeds up the tempo and the emotions gradually heat up. When it reaches the climax, the power is so strong that it can steal your soul!"

Ouyang Lun couldn't help but interject, "And this song, 'Cherish,' has just a few simple notes, yet it so precisely touches the softest spot in people's hearts. The melody's rise and fall, combined with the lyrics, is simply amazing. If this were sung, wouldn't the entire audience be moved to tears?"

Meng Xianghui nodded repeatedly, his eyes full of admiration: "Qingfeng, these two songs of yours are impeccable in terms of both musicality and emotional expression. I really never expected that you could create such excellent works!"

Ouyang Lun exclaimed with great emotion, "With just these two songs, you'll be able to walk sideways in the music industry from now on!"

Xiao Qingfeng chuckled: "Senior, Director, please don't praise me to the skies. It's all thanks to your excellent guidance!"

Meng Xianghui waved his hand dismissively: "Don't be so modest, I couldn't have written those two songs! Qingfeng, I bet you'll shine at the graduation party this time, and your company will regret it!"

Xiao Qingfeng smiled and nodded: "With your approval, I feel more confident. But teacher, could you please give me some advice on which of these two songs I should sing?"

Xiao Qingfeng actually prefers the song "The Wind Rises," as it evokes a state of mind, and he finds a resonance with the soul every time he listens to it.

Meng Xianghui said, "Why choose? Of course, we should sing both songs!"

"This isn't quite right. This is, after all, our music department's graduation party, not my personal showcase. Singing two songs in a row would be a bit too much of a stealth!"

Meng Xianghui's expression immediately turned serious: "I am the head of the music department. What I say goes. Who dares to object?"

Xiao Qingfeng readily conceded defeat: "Well, you're the director, you're in charge!"

Night fell quickly!

The graduation ceremony of Kyoto Conservatory of Music is about to begin!
