Chapter 24 "More beautiful than a fairy"...
Chapter Twenty-Four: "More Beautiful Than a Fairy"
Although they kept teasing and joking when she moved the desks and chairs to the wall, Lin Su firmly believed that they were overthinking it.
He simply treated her as a vulnerable person out of habit, taking meticulous care of her. Or rather, he had already regarded her as a close person, just like Xu Yaodong.
Sun Xiaoqing said, "I've never seen the farm manager treat anyone this well. When other girls talk to him about something, he always handles it professionally. It's impossible for him to do something as intimate as patting someone's head."
Lin Su frowned as she thought about how he had not only touched her hair, but also applied medicine to her, and even carried and hugged her...
She still subconsciously denied it: "Touching someone's head doesn't mean anything, it's like an elder touching a younger person."
Sun Xiaoqing, carrying a chair, sighed when she saw that Susu was still being stubborn: "Susu, even if he didn't mean it that way, don't you have any thoughts about it?"
Lin Su's heart skipped a beat, and she bit her lip, saying, "Let's not talk about these things, I'm going back to the capital soon."
"Even though we're thousands of miles apart after returning to Beijing, I've seen those who date people in the military maintain their relationships through letters, and there haven't been any problems."
Lin Su didn't want to talk about this anymore. She glanced at the venue and changed the subject: "It's wide enough. Everyone, line up. We'll practice for two hours every night."
They were all girls in their early twenties, a lively and cheerful age. Although Lin Su was the youngest, she was very organized and taught them, arranging everything clearly for them.
One of her teammates laughed and said, "Shushu is no wonder she was a teacher."
“It’s hard to imagine that when you first came to our farm, you would have been blown over by the wind, but now you can stand on your own.”
During the break, someone even said, "Why don't you dance one of your Dai ethnic dances, Susu?"
Everyone chimed in, "Yes, yes, let's take a look."
Lin Su said, "I practiced a bit during the day, but it's not perfect yet, and it's not smooth. I'll try to jump it out and see how it goes."
When the song "There Is a Beautiful Place" was played, Lin Su got into the mood, twisted her waist and hips, raised her arms, and pinched her fingers into the shape of a peacock's head, first striking a very iconic movement of the Dai peacock dance.
This foundation came from a few dance classes she attended as a child, specifically folk dance, when she was learning a special skill. However, she later sprained her ankle and had to stop dancing, switching to painting instead. Naturally, her painting skills were only superficial.
At the time, she felt that she was haphazard and didn't have any outstanding skills. She went to university and studied a rather unimportant major, business administration, and planned to just coast through life.
Unexpectedly, she ended up here.
Lin Su struck a pose and said, "Press play."
The melodious sound of the hulusi (a type of gourd flute) filled the air, and Lin Su danced to the rhythm of the music. Perhaps she was getting into the zone, and the Dai ethnic group's "three-bend" posture, which her teachers had mentioned when teaching her to dance, rushed into her mind.
Lin Su's head, waist, and hips bent like vines, her limbs supple and graceful, imitating the posture of a peacock spreading its tail feathers, as well as the scene of a Dai girl playing and living, which made her teammates gasp in amazement.
Halfway through the dance, Lin Su stopped and said, "That's about it. I'm not very familiar with this dance yet."
Several people nearby clapped and said, "It's so beautiful."
"It's hard to imagine how beautiful she would look in Dai ethnic clothing."
"The multi-talented Susu".
Lin Su said, "I'll figure out my own dance. You guys should hurry up and practice too, so you don't forget what I just taught you."
"Okay, Teacher Lin," Sun Xiaoqing said, drawing out the last syllable.
Lin Su chuckled. Perhaps it was because she had been a teacher for half a year and was surrounded by those children, but she quite liked being called a teacher.
These girls were full of passion. The next day at noon, after they returned from the sugarcane field and finished eating, several of the girls persuaded Lin Su to go to the conference room to practice for an hour.
Cultural and artistic activities always stimulate the cerebral cortex. A few days later, Lin Su noticed that everyone was smiling more and the relationship between the group was getting better.
That evening, Lin Su organized everyone to go through the entire "Butterfly Spring" dance. Wang Ping brought Nana over to play, and after watching it, she kept sighing, "It's a pity that after giving birth, my figure isn't as slender as yours, otherwise I would like to dance it too."
Lin Su asked, "Sister Ping, if you're hosting, who will be your co-host?"
"It's not confirmed yet."
Someone suggested, "Why not the farm manager? He has such a good image."
“The director would never be a host. I talked to him, and he said he was a behind-the-scenes staff member in charge of costumes,” Wang Ping said.
Everyone burst into laughter.
"By the way, did the manager manage to borrow any uniforms? Susu, go and ask him."
Lin Su agreed, "I'll ask later."
Some people suggested, "Why don't you ask Nana's father to host the show? You two can be a husband-and-wife team."
"Yes, you two have great chemistry."
After hearing this, Wang Ping retorted, "What tacit understanding? We do have the tacit understanding when we argue, though."
After the rehearsal ended, Lin Su locked the meeting room door and went to the director's office.
The lights were on, but the door was closed.
Lin Su peered through the window but saw no one inside. She called out, "Is the manager here?"
"Ah, it's behind you."
A low, magnetic voice came from nearby. Lin Su turned her head and saw him standing not far away. He looked like he had just washed his hair, with soft hair hanging down in front of his forehead and water still dripping from the ends.
He smiled faintly: "Did you need something from me?"
Lin Su gazed at him. He had been leaving early and returning late these past few days, and she hadn't seen him at all. Perhaps it was because he had showered and the lights were on, but his face seemed even more radiant and soft, and his eyes were glistening with moisture.
Lin Su said, "They asked me to ask you if you've finalized the dance costumes."
He walked to the door, opened it, and said, "I've been busy these past few days. If you're free tomorrow, come with me to the county dance troupe. You can choose whatever color and style you need."
Lin Su asked with concern, "Did you contact them beforehand?"
He laughed: "You seem quite worried. I asked around, and a deputy director at the cultural center said I could go and take a look."
Lin Su nodded in satisfaction: "Okay, then I'll go together tomorrow."
He gripped the doorknob, tilted his head, and asked, "Shall I come in?"
"I'm not going in, I need to wash up."
After saying that, she turned and left.
The next morning, Lin Su accompanied Zhou Yunqi to the county cultural center, where a county-level cultural troupe was located. The troupe consisted of a drama troupe and a song and dance troupe, and they frequently traveled to villages to promote culture. Their county was a multi-ethnic region, so the song and dance troupe would rehearse programs with ethnic characteristics.
The deputy director led them to the dance troupe's costume room to choose costumes.
One of the staff members in charge of the clothing said, "There are Bai and Dai ethnic groups, but the clothing is relatively simple."
Lin Su asked, "Will you be using these clothes anytime soon?"
"It's almost Chinese New Year now, and the group is on holiday. Just return it when you're done using it."
The man led Lin Su to see the Bai ethnic costumes, including clothes and headdresses. Lin Su picked out six relatively clean sets. They then looked at the Dai ethnic costumes, but they weren't very appealing. She vaguely remembered seeing a celebrity on TV wearing a beautiful Dai costume while dancing; it was stunning. She had been thinking about that costume constantly while practicing, but the ones here were too old and of poor quality.
Seeing her hesitation, Zhou Yunqi asked, "Is it inappropriate?"
Lin Su glanced at Zhou Yunqi: "I want to make the Dai ethnic costume myself, so I can keep it as a souvenir or wear it when I perform in college."
“You’re thinking quite far ahead,” he chuckled. “Then let’s go to the tailor shop and get a new one made.”
Zhou Yunqi helped pay the deposit, put the Bai ethnic costumes in a cloth bag, and loaded them into the car.
Lin Su said, "I'll go pick out the fabric and find a tailor myself later."
He asked, "Do you have any cloth ration coupons?"
"Yes, they're all in my bag."
Before coming, Zhou Yunqi had thought that she might not be able to find the clothes she wanted. Zhou Yunqi had things to do at the factory, so he had to leave her at the department store.
Lin Su had been traveling for a long time and didn't return to the sugar factory until four o'clock in the afternoon, dragging her aching legs.
Zhou Yunqi was in his office. As soon as he saw her, he asked, "Have you found the right fabric?"
Lin Su poured a large glass of warm water, gulped it down, and then said, "I found it. Not only did I find it, but I also drew the style I wanted and gave it to an old tailor."
After saying that, she said with longing, "That master craftsman said it would definitely be beautiful. Although he is very busy, he promised to help me finish it."
Zhou Yunqi sat leisurely in his chair and looked over, then suddenly chuckled.
"What are you laughing at?" Lin Su asked, puzzled.
He fiddled with a fountain pen on the table: "I haven't looked forward to the Chinese New Year this much in recent years."
Lin Su paused for a moment, then quickly said, "Don't have too high expectations. If it doesn't work well, you'll laugh at us again."
"Can't I even have a little hope?"
"No, you'll only be pleasantly surprised if you approach it with a calm mind."
His tone was like that of a playboy: "It seems that this is neither up to you nor up to me."
She understood the first half of the sentence, but what did the second half mean?
Lin Su said blankly, "Why can't you have a choice? Can't you lower your expectations?"
His voice grew increasingly nonchalant: "It can't be lowered, especially now."
Lin Su thought this person was just bored, so she ignored him.
She remained immersed in the dance, leading everyone in rehearsals at the farm. As they gradually became more proficient, she would work with them to refine the details and improve the synchronization.
That evening, we all changed into Bai ethnic costumes and danced together.
The following day, Lin Su finally received the Dai ethnic costume she had been dreaming of.
Zhou Yunqi accompanied her to the tailor shop to pick up the dress. The moment the dress was unfolded, the man's eyes lit up.
The main color of the tube skirt is light green, with fine horizontal stripes in apricot, brown, and yellow along the middle section. The most ingenious part is the short top, which is a two-piece set. The inner layer is also made of light green fabric, similar to a small camisole, while the outer layer is a long-sleeved, cross-collar short top made of white gauze, with ethnic clothing patterns sewn along the edges.
The entire dress is fresh and elegant, with a strong ethnic style.
The old tailor kept praising her, saying that she would look absolutely stunning in the dress, and then urged her to try it on.
Lin Su drew the curtain, took off her clothes, changed into a skirt, and was about to come out when she suddenly felt that her hair also needed to be styled. So she let her braids down, gathered her hair, and tied it into a bun.
Lifting the curtain, Lin Su pursed her lips and walked towards Zhou Yunqi.
Zhou Yunqi was standing and chatting with the old master when he caught a glimpse of a fresh-faced figure out of the corner of his eye. He turned his head to look, and a thought suddenly struck him.
"How is it? Does it look good?" Lin Su asked, looking up.
His dark eyes stared straight at her, his thin lips parted slightly, and he was momentarily speechless.
Seeing that he seemed stunned, Lin Su couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Does it look good?"
The man snapped out of his reverie, his gentle gaze falling on her face. He nodded solemnly, his voice hoarse:
"Beautiful, even more beautiful than a fairy."
