Chapter 68 Doctor Zhang Jingran

Chen Suwen went to the pharmacy to buy Chinese medicinal herbs. Although she did have a lot of medicinal herbs and seeds in her space, she needed an excuse to take them out.

You can buy some at the pharmacies around here.

Traditional Chinese medicine shops in Guangdong Province have not actually disappeared.

People in Guangdong Province love to make soup, and most of the soup ingredients are Chinese medicinal herbs.

Even though traditional Chinese medicine is being suppressed now, there are still Chinese herbal medicine shops in Guangdong Province. Chen Suwen quickly found a shop based on the original owner's memories.

The pharmacies here are legitimate shops, just like supply and marketing cooperatives and state-run restaurants; they are state-owned enterprises.

We also have collaborations with hospitals.

The pharmacy was similar to what Chen Suwen remembered: one wall was lined with medicine cabinets, there was a counter in front, and on the other side were tables and chairs, presumably for taking pulses.

When Chen Suwen came in, there was a woman of similar age sitting at the counter reading a book.

The other person wasn't looking at a traditional Chinese medicine book. Chen Suwen had good eyesight and could see that the cover of the book said "medicine," so it should be a textbook of modern medicine—commonly known as Western medicine.

"Hello?"

Chen Suwen stepped forward and greeted the woman.

The woman looked up when she heard her voice, smiled slightly, and asked, "Are you here to buy medicine?"

Chen Suwen nodded, "You seem to have quite a lot of medicinal herbs here?"

She looked around and noticed that the pharmacy seemed to be in very good condition.

It's important to know that during those turbulent years, many traditional Chinese medicine shops and clinics suffered, and some practitioners were even sent to the countryside or died during the upheaval.

How come this pharmacy called Baozhongtang is still so well preserved and hasn't been damaged by those guys?

As if sensing Chen Suwen's doubts, the woman smiled slightly and said, "I am a teacher at Yangcheng University of Traditional Chinese Medicine."

That's why her family's pharmacy was able to survive.

Of course, another reason is that her husband is a doctor who treats big shots, and her father is a national master of traditional Chinese medicine.

Her siblings either work in large hospitals or military hospitals.

And her children, too, were in similar situations.

Because someone in her family was quite capable, her position as Baozhongtang was able to be preserved.

Chen Su didn't know the female doctor's family background, but since she said so, she reluctantly believed that the fact that Bao Zhongtang could stay meant that they were capable.

"I need these medicinal herbs, please."

Chen Suwen handed several sheets of paper to the other party. These were the medicinal herbs she had listed yesterday, a prescription that could strengthen the body and consolidate the foundation.

Zhang Jingran took the papers and looked at them. Chen Suwen hadn't written out the prescription; she had only listed the quantities of the required herbs.

Zhang Jingran couldn't figure out what this was for. She looked at Chen Su with a puzzled expression and asked, "Can I ask what you're going to do with these medicinal herbs?"

"For treating illnesses?"

Chen Suwen shook her head, "Strengthening the body, consolidating the foundation and nourishing the vital energy... that's the prescription for health preservation."

"It's used for making medicinal cuisine and medicinal baths."

Hearing her say that, Zhang Jingran looked carefully at the prescription in his hand. "Are you sure? These are for making medicinal baths?"

"Yes, my family members aren't very healthy, so we need to give them medicinal baths to improve their physical condition."

Zhang Jingran became interested and pulled Chen Su aside to ask her many questions.

Chen Suwen was not a professional TCM student; her pharmacological knowledge was acquired through rote memorization after she awakened her wood-type superpowers in the post-apocalyptic world, following the example of others.

She memorized everything, from pharmacological knowledge to various prescriptions.

She can't modify the prescription herself or figure out a highly effective one on her own.

She admitted that she simply lacked creativity.

However, her knowledge of pharmacology and prescriptions can be very beneficial when communicating with Zhang Jingran, a professional doctor.

"I didn't know it could be used like this? These herbs combined can actually strengthen the body and improve health."

"These herbs combined can actually strengthen bones? Does that mean they can strengthen the bones of both children and the elderly?"

Zhang Jingran pulled Chen Suwen aside and asked her many questions. She really hadn't expected that medicinal herbs could be used in such a way.

After chatting with Chen Suwen for a while, Zhang Jingran, in a good mood, introduced himself to her.

"My name is Zhang Jingran. I am a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine and I usually teach at Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine."

“During my holidays, I’ll be working as a resident doctor at Baozhongtang. Sister Suwen, you can come visit me anytime you have time,” Zhang Jingran said enthusiastically to Chen Suwen, expressing her desire to be friends with her.

Chen Suwen nodded, "Sure."

She also exchanged her name and address with Zhang Jingran, and became friends with him. This gave her a legitimate excuse to bring out more medicinal herbs and prescriptions in the future.

"I'll get the medicinal herbs you need right away. You can come back to me again when you've used them up, Sister Suwen." Zhang Jingran smiled and handed Chen Suwen the medicinal herbs one by one from several sheets of paper.

"Auntie, I've come to play with you."

Chen Suwen was sitting to the side waiting for Zhang Jingran to get the medicine when a young and energetic girl walked in from the door.

"Auntie, let me tell you something..."

When the little girl entered, she thought that only her aunt was in the store and didn't even notice Chen Suwen.

When she was about to complain to her aunt, she finally realized there was another person there and quickly shut her mouth.

"Is Auntie sick? Is she busy?" Xie Linglong looked at Chen Suwen, then at Zhang Jingran who was getting medicine.
