Chapter 31 Huo Mingchen is lying to you

Cheng Wan'er sobbed, her voice filled with grievance: "They've already fainted from hunger. Could you give me something to eat, just a little bit?"

Cheng Shanshan didn't say anything, and Cheng Wan'er outside didn't stop either. Instead, she cried even louder: "I know you're angry with us. We already know we were wrong. As long as you're willing to save them, I will definitely remember your kindness."

"Gratitude?"

These two words made Cheng Shanshan unable to help but laugh.

Just as she was getting bored and didn't want to listen anymore, Cheng Wan'er suddenly lowered her voice and said, "I have a secret about Huo Mingchen to exchange with you. You definitely won't regret it."

"..."

Cheng Shanshan frowned slightly.

To gain her trust, Cheng Wan'er continued, "Huo Mingchen is not as simple as you think. I have evidence."

Cheng Shanshan immediately stood up and said to Madam Bai, "Mother, I'm going out for a bit."

Bai pulled her back: "Didn't you say it's dangerous outside and we can't go out?"

"Don't worry, those men won't dare to come after they were beaten up, so there's only Cheng Wan'er outside, no one else."

After Cheng Shanshan finished speaking, she immediately left the cave.

She had been hiding in the cave for a long time without seeing the sunlight. When she first came out, she was momentarily panicked and dazzled, but she quickly got used to it.

She stood at the entrance of the cave and looked around before finally fixing her gaze on Cheng Wan'er. Her hair was disheveled like weeds, her clothes were no longer as bright as before and were now tattered, and even her once-proud fair skin had turned sallow. She looked utterly miserable.

In comparison, Cheng Shanshan's face was as rosy as a peach blossom thanks to the various delicacies Bai Shi provided, which made Cheng Wan'er so angry that she almost bit her own back groove to pieces!

Cheng Shanshan came out specifically to make her jealous, her eyes gleaming with provocation: "You were crying so hard just now, why did you stop crying?"

"cousin……"

Cheng Wan'er took a deep breath.

Then her eyes immediately filled with tears, her face streaked with tears: "I knew my cousin wasn't a heartless person." As she spoke, she made a move to rush towards Cheng Shanshan.

Cheng Shanshan simply raised her stick, blocking Cheng Wan'er's path: "Cheng Wan'er, that's enough. There's no one else here, why pretend with me?"

Cheng Wan'er was slightly taken aback: "Cousin, what do you mean by that?"

Cheng Shanshan had no desire to waste any more words with her and directly questioned her in a cold voice: "What were you talking about regarding Huo Mingchen just now?"

"This one?"

Cheng Wan'er heard some of the conversation.

She immediately wiped away her tears and said seriously, "I want food. You can only speak if you give it to me."

When Cheng Shanshan went out, she casually grabbed a small bag of millet and tossed it to Cheng Wan'er without saying a word.

Cheng Wan'er's eyes lit up when she received the gift!

Cheng Shanshan asked, "Can we talk about it now?"

"Since you're so straightforward, cousin, I won't beat around the bush with you." Cheng Wan'er said, glancing furtively to her left and right before whispering, "That Huo Mingchen has been lying to you all along; he's using you to harm others!"

Use her?

Are you trying to harm people?

Cheng Shanshan's expression darkened slightly: "You slander people with just your mouth?"

"No, that's not true!"

As she spoke, Cheng Wan'er pulled out a bamboo slip with words engraved on it from her bosom: "I found this on my way to file a complaint, which is why he pushed me into the flood and almost killed me!"

Cheng Shanshan took the item, and the words "manufacturing a plague" on it immediately startled her, because according to the trajectory she knew, a plague was indeed going to rage next.

But why manufacturing?

Why Huo Mingchen?

A vague feeling of unease made Cheng Shanshan thoughtful, and she didn't even notice that Cheng Wan'er had quietly left.

Back inside the cave, Bai asked, "What did you talk about?"

"nothing."

Cheng Shanshan waved her hand.

But after thinking about it, she couldn't help but add, "Mother, don't tell Brother Huo about my meeting with Cheng Wan'er, or he might be unhappy."

"good."

Mr. Bai nodded.

An hour later, Huo Mingchen finally returned.

He looked exhausted, and Cheng Shanshan handed him a cup of tea: "How are you?"

Huo Mingchen's voice was a little hoarse: "It will take another day to clean up our water source."

"Just here?"

"Um."

Huo Mingchen sighed: "I can't help with other things."

Cheng Shanshan looked at Huo Mingchen and asked, "Won't this cause a plague?"

Huo Mingchen replied, "Don't worry, I'll find some herbs later and prepare a medicine pouch for you in advance, then everything will be fine."

She's alright now.

Will other people be in trouble?

Although she is not a saint, she does not want these terrible situations to be man-made.

Especially if this person is someone she has gradually come to trust, it would make her feel very scared.

However, Cheng Shanshan didn't show it on her face. Instead, she smiled and asked, "So, Brother Huo also knows medicine?"

Huo Mingchen: "I know a little."

Cheng Shanshan: "Can you teach me?"

Huo Mingchen: "Okay."

Cheng Shanshan: That's great.

After exchanging a few more words, the two went to rest.

However, Cheng Shanshan did not sleep after returning to the house. She had been worried that she did not know how to use the medicinal herbs in the herb garden, but now that Huo Mingchen knew medicine, things would be much easier.

She wrote down all the medicinal herbs in the herb garden on paper and pen. The next day at breakfast, she chose two herbs that were labeled as having the ability to clear heat and detoxify and asked about their detailed usage.

While Huo Mingchen was busy outside, she would seize the time to go to the medicinal herb field to find herbs to try and mix, and soon she made a heat-clearing pill.

During dinner that evening, she handed it to Huo Mingchen: "Brother Huo, I found this. Can you help me figure out what it's for?"

"this?"

Huo Mingchen pinched the pill.

First I looked at it, then I smelled it.

Then, her glassy eyes filled with surprise: "This is the medicine you asked me about this morning, the one that can clear heat and detoxify."

Really?

Cheng Shanshan feigned surprise: "I found it by chance, what a coincidence!"

Huo Mingchen looked at her: "Yes, it's a coincidence."

"Well... I'll get back to work."

Bai noticed that Cheng Shanshan had become much quieter since she met Cheng Wan'er that day.

She avoided speaking to Xiao Huo whenever possible, and would find excuses to do other things to leave. Their communication was reduced to nothing more than water and medicinal herbs.

Bai noticed something was wrong, so she quietly asked Huo Mingchen, "Did you do something to upset Shanshan?"

Huo Mingchen glanced at Cheng Shanshan, who was pretending to be busy in the distance: "So Aunt Bai noticed too. She's been avoiding me these past few days."

"yes."

No one knows a daughter better than her mother.

Bai sighed softly, "Shanshan likes to keep things to herself. Why don't you go and ask her directly?"
