270. Is Chapter 270 really just a coincidence?

Zhu Qianying sang quite well, and Cheng Ye's level was about the same as hers. Seeing that everyone was making a big fuss, he went along with the public opinion, picked up the remote control, and asked Zhu Qianying what song she wanted to sing.

Zhu Qianying said indifferently, "Whatever."

So Cheng Ye really did just "randomly" pick a song.

As soon as the rhythm started, Zhu Qianying regretted saying "whatever"!

Zhu Qianying regrets it, not because she can't sing the song—she can sing it—but because the lyrics make her feel uncomfortable.

Her own female vocal parts were relatively okay, because she didn't immerse herself in the role.

But Cheng Ye's male vocals always made her feel that he was very immersive, and the more she listened, the more uncomfortable she felt.

The music started slowly, and Zhu Qianying picked up the microphone and sang, "Actually, I mind your fake nonchalance. Why did you have the heart to ignore me after the misunderstanding and the argument?"

Cheng Ye, who was standing next to her, raised the microphone and looked directly at her. "Actually, you treat me very coldly and never reveal your expectations of me."

Cheng Ye's first line made Zhu Qianying feel embarrassed, but her colleagues behind her clapped and cheered loudly.

She had no choice but to grit her teeth and continue singing, "You have a self-centered mentality, and people revolve around you as if they can't find a foothold."

What was supposed to be a duet was interrupted by Cheng Ye, who, whether out of rhythm or on purpose, sang half a beat faster. He turned to her, his gaze deep, and began to sing, "I'll love you even if you have a hundred flaws. No one can compare to you!"

Zhu Qianying felt she couldn't continue singing because Cheng Ye's voice was full of emotion, and his gaze towards her was equally intense.

Zhu Qianying had no choice but to hum along with the rhythm of the syllables using "la la la..."

But Cheng Ye didn't seem to mind her leaving things unsaid. When it was the male part, he still sang with great enthusiasm, "Before I understood you, I could not swallow my anger and endure it. My pride was willing to be lowered because I love you so much."

Taking a breath, Cheng Ye continued singing, "Actually, you never leave yourself any way out, and you don't even feel the pain when you're suffering."

Cheng Ye's voice is usually bright, but when he sang this song, he deliberately lowered it to a very deep tone. His emotional singing sounded like a series of accusations to Zhu Qianying, making her feel even more uncomfortable.

As the song progressed, she mostly used "la la la..." to replace the lyrics for the female parts. When her colleagues heard this, they started teasing her, saying that Yingzi was moved and embarrassed by her boss and couldn't even continue singing.

Zhu Qianying felt that she had brought this trouble upon herself. She shouldn't have agreed to sing a duet with Cheng Ye in the first place.

But they insisted on saving face, and now look what happened! The feeling of digging their own grave is truly exhilarating!

Zhu Qianying thought that the awkwardness of the evening had reached its peak.

Little did she know, something even more embarrassing was about to happen.

A group of people stayed at the karaoke bar until after 1 a.m., and then went their separate ways.

Several male colleagues offered to drive their female colleagues who were going in the same direction home. Zhu Qianying, on the other hand, didn't drive, so she obediently stood at the entrance of the KTV waiting for a taxi.

Cheng Ye, like her, arrived in an employee's car. When it came time to pay, he instructed the other employees to leave first, while he would take Zhu Qianying home. The other employees, being sensible, dispersed immediately upon hearing their boss's words, leaving the two of them standing side by side outside the gate.

Zhu Qianying even suspected that Cheng Ye might have noticed something.

Otherwise, she had already clearly and plainly told him that she and Yan Han were getting along, yet he still insisted on taking her home in the middle of the night. Didn't he need to avoid suspicion and wasn't afraid that Yan Han would overthink things?

"Cheng, you go first, the driver will pick me up later!"

Zhu Qianying herself felt guilty, after all, she lived in a newly purchased apartment, not the Yan family mansion. Cheng Ye might not know where Yan Han lived, but the apartment she lived in was clearly not a place for someone of Yan Han's status and position.

"I'll wait with you. Anyway, I've had a bit too much to drink, and this will help me sober up."

Zhu Qianying pulled her collar tighter, trying her best to hide her helplessness and despair, and secretly prayed that someone would save her!

Then, as if heaven had heard her "sincere" prayer, she and Cheng Ye stood in front of the KTV for less than two minutes. Instead of waiting for a car, they were greeted by a familiar voice.

"Shadow? What a coincidence, you're here to sing too?"

At this moment, all Zhu Qianying wanted to do was find a hole in the ground to escape to.

But she clearly doesn't have that ability or skill!

He turned his head and forced a smile at Ke Kai, who was a few meters away, and nodded.

"Oh, what a coincidence, you also arranged to sing karaoke here with your colleagues?"

He wore a smile on his face, but inside he was groaning.

Isn't nursery rhymes a business of the Tong family? How can you, Ke Kai, a high-ranking executive of the Tong family, come to sing on someone else's turf? Aren't you afraid your boss will give you a good beating?

Ke Kai walked over in a few steps. "Yes, it's a friend's birthday today, so I came to join in the fun. And who is this?"

Ke Kai's gaze swept towards Cheng Ye.

Zhu Qianying had no choice but to introduce them, "Oh, this is my boss, Cheng Ye."

"Cheng, this is Ke Kai, the manager of Tong's Finance Company."

Both Cheng Ye and Ke Kai carefully examined each other as they extended their hands.

Cheng Ye had never heard of Ke Kai, but he knew that Tong's Finance Company was Yan Han's company, which meant that Ke Kai was indirectly subordinate to Zhu Qianying.

From how this person addresses Zhu Qianying, we can infer that Zhu Qianying has a very good relationship with the people on Yan Han's side!

As for Ke Kai, he had asked McGonagall to investigate everything about Zhu Qianying in the US, so he naturally knew about Cheng Ye. In fact, he knew about Cheng Ye's existence even earlier than Yan Shao.

However, this was the first time I had met him.

It has to be said that Cheng Ye, as his own father's rival in love, is quite shrewd.

Regardless of his wealth and background, he certainly excelled in showing care and consideration.

On the other hand, my own master is really lacking in this respect. He lets Shadow go out alone in the middle of the night without even providing a driver or anything.

"Shadow, hasn't your master come to pick you up yet? Is the meeting still going on?"

Upon hearing Ke Kai's words, Zhu Qianying knew that he was trying to save face for Young Master Yan.

"We came here on a whim, so he didn't know."

"In that case, I'll take you back so you won't worry."

As Ke Kai spoke, he gently tugged at Zhu Qianying's arm, signaling her to come with him.

After weighing the options briefly, Zhu Qianying decided that it would be better to go with Ke Kai.

He turned to Cheng Ye, whose expression was complicated, and said something before turning to Ke Kai and saying, "Then I'll have to trouble you!"
