Neither Tong Xiaohuai nor Yan Bo deliberately brought up Yan Bo's disappearance, nor did they discuss the role that Yan's father, Yan Zhong, played in it.
Yan Bo didn't mention it because he didn't want to further alienate Tong Xiaohuai.
Tong Xiaohuai didn't mention it because she didn't want Yanbo to be sad.
The two slept in Tong Xiaohuai's bedroom for an afternoon, had dinner, and then Yanbo returned to Yanhuang to deal with the backlog of work that had lasted for nearly ten days.
Tong Xiaohuai was forced to stay at home to recuperate by Qin Ming and Uncle Du, who had been sent back from Beijing. She had no choice but to stay at home with her university notes to review them, because the final exams were in a few days.
She hadn't been to class for days, and Zeng Xianghuai and Xiaomi had taken turns getting her notes for all the courses she had taken. Today, Tong Xiaohuai had just had the driver go to the school to pick them up, and what she was looking at were the notes that the two of them had copied for her.
After flipping through a few pages, a slip of paper fluttered out of the notebook.
Tong Xiaohuai bent down and picked up the note, which read, "No matter when or where, I will always be behind you."
Although there was no signature, Tong Xiaohuai knew that the note was left by Zeng Xianghuai.
Tong Xiaohuai frowned and stared at the note for a while before putting it back into her notebook.
After directly rejecting Zeng Xianghuai from the very beginning, Tong Xiaohuai was no longer troubled by him.
She thought that now that things were clear, he should understand that there was absolutely no possibility between them.
Little did anyone know, he had always harbored hope in his heart.
After that, Tong Xiaohuai could no longer concentrate on reading her notes.
I picked up my phone and dialed Yanbo's number.
"Baby, you missed me so soon?" Yan Bo's gentle voice came through the phone, and it was clear that he was in a good mood.
"No way! Do you have time to have dinner with me tomorrow night?"
Yan Bo didn't reply to her immediately. Instead, he asked Di Xu about his schedule for tomorrow on the other end of the phone, and then replied, "Seven o'clock is fine. Is that too late?"
"It's not too late. I'd like to introduce you to a few alumni. Would you do me the honor?"
Yan Bo replied without hesitation, "This is like giving me a stamp of approval, of course I'll do you the honor!"
Tong Xiaohuai hung up the phone with a smile on her lips, then sent a message to Xiaomi and Zeng Xianghuai, inviting them to dinner the next night as a way of thanking them for the hard work of copying her notes for so many days.
Zeng Xianghuai quickly replied, "Okay, Xiaomi and I will be waiting for you at the South Gate."
Xiaomi's reply was slower; Tong Xiaohuai went to pour a glass of water and came back before she saw her reply.
"Xiao Huai, have you been feeling any better these past few days?"
"Very good! What's wrong?"
Tong Xiaohuai hadn't mentioned her boyfriend's disappearance to Xiaomi, but she hadn't returned to school for over ten days. During that time, Xiaomi called her a few times, probably sensing her low spirits from her tone of voice.
"Did you have a fight with your handsome boyfriend recently? You seemed like you were on the verge of a breakdown."
"Nothing like that. You'll find out tomorrow whether he and I had a fight or not." Tong Xiaohuai's lips were slightly upturned.
"Oh my, looks like you're planning to introduce your handsome boyfriend to us tomorrow?"
"Okay, we'll pick you up at seven tomorrow morning!"
Before this, Tong Xiaohuai had never thought of introducing Yanbo to Xiaomi and Zeng Xianghuai, because although Yanbo was not a local, he had become a rising star among the younger generation in L City in the past six months.
Not long ago, he was interviewed by L City TV as the CEO of Yanhuang Company, and he was also featured twice in financial newspapers. She was not sure if Xiaomi and Zeng Xianghuai had seen the relevant reports.
If so, introducing Yanbo to them would have a bit of a boasting feel to it.
On the other hand, she didn't want to cause Yanbo any trouble because of her friends.
But now, in order to make Zeng Xianghuai give up completely, she has no choice but to bring Yan Bo out for a show.
The following afternoon, Tong Xiaohuai, who had finally been released from the curfew, met up with Yan Bo in the driver's car on the way.
The car stopped at the agreed intersection, but Yanbo's car hadn't arrived yet. Tong Xiaohuai saw a small shop selling ice cream by the roadside and, feeling a sudden craving, got out and stood in line behind a group of kids who looked like middle school students to buy ice cream.
Actually, she rarely craved food before, but after getting to know and date Yanbo, she is gradually becoming a foodie.
Yan Bo saw Tong Xiaohuai's usual car parked on the side of the road from afar, so he changed lanes and drove his car toward her car.
As soon as I parked the car, I saw a tall figure standing out like a crane among chickens in front of an ice cream shop on the side of the road. He stood out particularly among a group of girls in school uniforms.
The tall, elegant "crane" fairy wore a white sweater, a black leather jacket, black jeans, and brown Martin boots, looking so handsome and stylish that she attracted the attention of passersby.
Yan Bo immediately recognized the person as his beloved girlfriend, Tong Xiaohuai. He quickly got out of the car, jogged over, and put his hand on her shoulder.
To avoid the men passing by on the sidewalk, she deliberately slowed her pace, their lecherous gazes darting back and forth over her.
Tong Xiaohuai craned his neck to look at the flow of passengers ahead when someone suddenly put their arm around his shoulder. Instinctively, he raised his elbow and bumped into the side.
"Oh dear, are you trying to murder your husband?" A familiar voice wailed in her ear.
Tong Xiaohuai turned her head and looked at the person next to her with a surprised expression.
"You're here? So early?"
They agreed to meet at six o'clock, but it was only five fifty. So, bored, Tong Xiaohuai thought she should hurry up and buy an ice cream to satisfy her craving before Yanbo arrived.
She had just recovered from a serious illness, and Yanbo might not let her eat raw or cold food.
"Yeah, if I hadn't come earlier, I wouldn't have known you, you glutton, were sneaking a bite!"
After Yan Bo finished speaking, he exerted force with his arm, trying to drag her out of the line.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
Tong Xiaohuai acted like a child throwing a tantrum, squatting down and refusing to leave. She was so hungry she was almost drooling. It was almost her turn, how could she let him drag her away like this?
Yan Bo was both amused and annoyed. He touched her face, which was cold from the wind, and said to her in a firm tone.
"Honey, you've just recovered from your illness, so you can't eat raw or cold food."
Tong Xiaohuai simply squatted down, looked up at him, and grumbled, "No way! I want to eat now!"
That little guy looked even more mischievous than a child of a few years old.
The girls and boys around them, seeing the two of them like this, all covered their mouths and giggled.
"Grandpa, I'm scared of you! Can't I eat it after I'm fully recovered? Look, all my younger siblings are laughing at you!"
Yan Bo softened his voice and half-squatted down to coax her gently.
"No, I want to eat it now!" Tong Xiaohuai's face had already been torn to shreds, and she didn't care anymore.
