Chapter 19. Visiting the Parents-in-Law

The next morning, Yan Shao ate breakfast in the dining room as usual, while Uncle Hai waited quietly to the side.

It wasn't until Young Master Yan put down his chopsticks and wiped his mouth with a damp towel that Uncle Hai reported, "Young Master, Master and Madam took the 9 a.m. flight this morning and will arrive at the airport around 11 a.m."

Yan Shaoren had already stood up and walked to the automatic door. "You make the arrangements, I don't have time."

Uncle Hai specifically reported this, simply wanting the young master to personally pick up the two masters at the airport. When he was refused, he didn't give up and chased after him again, saying, "Young master, if you go to the airport to pick them up, Madam and Master will definitely be very happy."

Yan Shao picked up the suit hanging on the coat rack, shook it, and put it on deftly.

"I'm not happy!" Yan Shao said indifferently, picked up his bag from the storage shelf, turned around and strode out the door.

The driver, who had been waiting outside the gate, quickly came forward and took his laptop bag, saying, "Good morning, sir."

Yan Shao nodded slightly as a greeting. The driver had already opened the back door and waited for him to get in and sit down before closing the door.

"Sir, where are we going?"

Aside from business trips, Yan Shao always returns to the company at eight o'clock without fail.

"Back to the company!" Today was no exception.

"Where's Qin Xiu?" Usually, Qin Xiu would pick him up for work and give him a briefing on the situation on the way.

The driver paused for a moment, then said, "Sir, Assistant Qin flew to Pengcheng early this morning to preside over the base construction ceremony."

This matter had actually been arranged several days ago, and Young Master Yan knew about it. However, after his mother made such a fuss yesterday, he forgot about it.

After that, Yan Shao remained silent the entire way, and the driver dared not say anything either. The two remained silent until the car passed a large billboard in a villa community. Only then did Yan Shao remember something, take out his phone to dial, and then realize that he did not have Zhu Qianying's phone number at all.

So he called home.

"Uncle Hai, what's Zhu Qianying's phone number?"

Uncle Hai quickly gave him the number, and Young Master Yan dialed it, only to be told, "The number you dialed is currently switched off. Please try again later."

Yan Shao raised his arm to check the time. It was seven o'clock. At this time, she was probably still sleeping.

With that thought in mind, Yan Shao didn't dwell on it. He hung up the phone, put his laptop back on his lap, and went about his business.

Back at the company, Yan Shao held two meetings. After the meetings, he and his secretary began preparing materials for a very important collaborative project that afternoon.

When people get busy, they completely lose their sense of time.

The intercom on the table rang. Yan Shao, thinking it was his secretary, picked it up and tucked it over his shoulder. "Speak!"

"Son, are you really angry with your mother?" It was Old Madam Yan.

"No!" Yan Shao replied with a blank face, drawing a heavy black line on the document with the pen in his hand.

It would be a lie to say I wasn't angry.

My mother likes to make jokes now and then, not too big or too small, and he doesn't mind them. Even if he gets angry, it's only for a short while.

But this time, his mother actually joked about her and his father's personal safety, which infuriated Yan Shao.

Even after a night had passed, he still couldn't calmly face his mother.

"Alright, sweetie, your old man and I are going home to take a shower and rest. Tonight, let's have that little girl from the Zhu family come over for dinner?"

Clearly, the real purpose of Madam Yan's phone call was not to show concern for whether her son was still angry, but rather to meet her future daughter-in-law as soon as possible.

Realizing his mother's true purpose, Young Master Yan became even angrier. "She has something to do and can't come!"

However, Madam Yan was not so easily fooled. "Little Hanhan, do you want me to call the Zhu family directly and ask your future father-in-law for her?"

Yan Shao nearly slammed the phone down. "Tong Xiaohuai, you'd better stop this!"

Young Master Yan was tricked by his mother yesterday, so it's no wonder he's furious when she threatens him like this.

"Tsk tsk, my little Hanhan has exploded again!" Old Madam Yan seemed to be used to teasing him. "Don't tell me you haven't visited your future father-in-law yet?"

Reminded by Madam Yan, Young Master Yan realized that he had indeed not yet visited the Zhu family.

"Isn't this your fault?"

If Old Madam Yan hadn't brought it up, things would have been fine, but the moment she did, Young Master Yan's anger, which had just begun to subside, reignited.

"On the first day after the results came out, she said she was tired and wanted to go home to rest. Could I not let her rest? On the second day, I had already picked everyone up and brought them home, but you and Dad were nowhere to be found. Tell me, isn't this your responsibility?"

After Yan Shao finished berating his mother with a righteous indignation, he felt incredibly refreshed!

Madam Yan clearly hadn't expected this either. After her son brought it up, perhaps feeling guilty, she spoke again, and her previous arrogance subsided considerably.

"Alright, Mom was wrong. So tonight, shall we go to the Zhu family to visit your future in-laws?"

Clearly, Madam Yan had already grasped the general outline of everything regarding Zhu Qianying.

Young Master Yan has never been bound by such formalities in his life, but if his mother says he's going, then he'll go.

"casual!"

"Alright, I'll have Ah Hai call Mr. Zhu."

Madam Yan seemed to understand her son's temperament very well. Knowing that he was impatient with dealing with these formalities and details, she took it upon herself to make the arrangements.

Young Master Yan was happy to have some free time, and his mother's words were exactly what he wanted to hear. "Well, it's up to you to decide."

"Okay, then I'll go with your dad to prepare a gift now, and we'll come pick you up tonight? Or will you go to the Zhu family's house by yourself?"

Although Madam Yan has been retired for ten years, she still retains her usual decisive and efficient work style.

"I'll go myself!"

He's already this old, what kind of behavior is it for him to still need his parents to pick him up from get off work?

After hanging up with Old Madam Yan, Young Master Yan continued to bury himself in his work.

The afternoon meeting did not go smoothly. The other party's CEO was a new executive and probably wanted to achieve good results to report to the board of directors. He was very firm on the terms and refused to budge.

Yan Shao detested people who were pushy and demanding. Halfway through the meeting, realizing that continuing like this wouldn't lead to any progress, he simply closed the document, leaned back, and lazily said to the other party's CEO, "Mr. Lei, I thought we had reached a basic consensus at the last meeting. But now it seems that's not the case. Since you believe you can't meet the conditions we've offered, there's no need for us to continue talking!"

After speaking, he stood up abruptly, not even bothering to tidy up the documents on the table, and turned to walk out of the conference hall.

The secretary seemed to be used to her young boss's capriciousness. She calmly packed up the documents and computer that Yan Shao had left behind and put them in her bag. Then she stood up, politely said "goodbye" to the pale-faced General Manager Lei, turned around, and strode out after her boss.
