Having inexplicably consumed several jars of jealousy, Yan Shao now felt nothing but envy, jealousy, and hatred towards the little guy who was sticking out his little bottom and nestled in Zhu Qianying's arms!
"Zizai, stop thinking about eating the white rabbit. Go wash your hands and come eat some food. Grandma made lots of delicious food for you!"
Chen Jing, whose biggest goal has always been to feed her son Zizai until he is chubby and healthy, came out of the kitchen carrying a large pot of steaming soup.
"Yay, I can finally taste Grandma's delicious food again... Ugh, my mouth is so bland!"
The little guy's words earned him a sharp rap on the head from Zhu Qianying, "Zizai, don't swear!"
The little guy stuck out his tongue, pulled at his eyelids, and made a face at her, "Zizai learned it from his brother...hehe..."
Zhu Qianying patted his bottom and urged him to wash his face. When Yan Bo and his wife came in, Zhu Qianying immediately stood up and went over to help take the bags from the two elderly people.
"Uncle and Aunt must be hungry too? My mom cooked a big meal. Go wash your faces, eat something, and then rest."
Madam Yan nodded with a smile and gave her a hug. "Indeed, my daughter is the most thoughtful. Xiao Han didn't even hand me a bottle of water the whole way."
Yan Shao felt like he was being attacked from both sides. He turned around and glared at Old Madam Yan, "Mom, who are you? There's food and drink in the car. Do I have to serve you?"
Madam Yan snorted, "Look at your argument! Isn't Ying'er one of our own? It's clearly your own fault for not being considerate or attentive enough, yet you still try to argue!"
Yan Shao raised his hands in surrender, "Alright, alright! Next time Mother rides in the carriage, your son will definitely take extra care to make you comfortable!"
Madam Yan chuckled, "That's more like it!"
She reached out and pinched Yan Shao's handsome face before contentedly pulling Yan Bo to wash his hands.
Previously, Zhu Qianying always thought that Young Master Yan was a powerful and domineering person who could easily defeat anyone wherever he went. However, the current situation made her change her mind. Young Master Yan's status in this family was probably just a placeholder.
In the living room, Zhu Qianying carried the two elderly people's bags to the storage cabinet and put them away. Yan Shao followed closely behind.
"Ying'er, are you and Mom alright?"
Zhu Qianying turned to him and smiled brightly, "Great! Brother Chen's skills in dumping people are truly amazing!"
The playful banter from before was gone from Yan Shao's eyes; instead, there was a deep, dark emotion, as thick as ink.
The two looked at each other silently for a moment before Yan Shao raised his hand and gently patted her shoulder.
"It's good that you're alright. You didn't eat much for lunch either, did you? Let's go grab something to eat together. Zizai will be taking a nap later. I need to talk to you about something!"
Zhu Qianying responded with an "Mmm," and upon hearing the little guy's footsteps as he ran out, she abandoned Yan Shao and went to greet him.
"Come on, let Mommy see if your little hands are clean."
The little guy proudly held out his hand to her, "Of course it's clean... and it smells wonderful, Mommy, look!"
Zhu Qianying glanced down, and a smile instantly froze on her lips.
The little guy's hands were covered with red marks, which were quite shocking at first glance.
Although these wounds were clearly just superficial injuries, Zhu Qianying, as a mother, still couldn't help but feel extremely distressed.
"Sweetie, what happened to your hand?"
The little guy looked down at the scratch on his hand, paused for a moment, but quickly grinned at Zhu Qianying, "It's nothing, I just fell while skateboarding, but I'm fine now!"
As she spoke, she quickly withdrew her little hand, patted her belly, and changed the subject, "Oh dear, my little one is starving! What delicious food did Grandma make..."
Zhu Qianying also realized that she was being a little too nervous. The wounds did not look deep, and in a few days, they would not even leave scars. But even so, it must have hurt a lot when she got them. This little guy did not say anything. Needless to say, he must have deliberately kept it from her so as not to worry her.
Zhu Qianying stared silently at the little guy, and then, without a word, pulled the sensible and thoughtful little guy into her arms.
"I made so many delicious things, Zizai, go eat!"
Pat the little guy's bottom, and he'll dash off to the dining room as if he's been granted a pardon.
Young Master Yan walked over at some point. "Didn't he tell you?"
Zhu Qianying shook her head and stood up. "He didn't say! This kid, at such a young age, he's already learned to only report good news and not bad..."
Zhu Qianying felt both gratified and a little sad. Zizai was only four years old, an age when he should be able to cry or laugh as he pleases. Yet, at such a young age, he had learned to hide his emotions. In Zhu Qianying's view, this sensible behavior was not necessarily a good thing.
Her own childhood was not very fun, so when she decided to have Zizai, she secretly promised herself that she would give the little guy a simple and happy childhood.
As it turns out, she still didn't do very well.
So much so that when he should have cried or acted spoiled, he chose to silently endure it all, just so she wouldn't worry or fret.
Yan Shao stared into her eyes, listening to her soft sigh, and felt a pang of sadness in his heart.
"Ying'er, you don't need to blame yourself. If anyone is to blame, it's me. I, as his father, failed in my responsibilities, which is why he has to learn to tough it out at such a young age!"
Actually, you can't say that this kind of child is bad. At least you can see that he is a responsible and willing child. However, as parents, who wouldn't want their child to have less responsibility and burden and grow up happily?
Zhu Qianying glanced at him silently for a moment before saying, "Let's go eat!" as if she didn't want to discuss this topic with him any further.
Actually, she knew she had no right to blame him for what happened with Zizai.
She just hoped that it wasn't too late!
"Ying'er, you don't need to worry too much. Although Zizai is more sensible and responsible than other children, he is a healthy and happy child, without a doubt."
At times, Yan Shao's ability to see through people's hearts is indeed remarkable.
Zhu Qianying felt a little better after being comforted by him.
The two walked into the dining room side by side, and as soon as the little guy saw her, he asked with a pleading look on his face.
"Mommy, Xingxing is sick... Can Zizai hold it while he sleeps?"
Zhu Qianying then realized that the little guy had already run to the doghouse to look at the stars before he even entered the house.
“But Xingxing hasn’t taken a bath for several days…” Yan Shao’s obsessive-compulsive disorder about cleanliness flared up again.
"Grandma, can you let your son sleep in the playroom?"
The little guy suddenly realized that Mommy usually wouldn't express any opinions in this family, so he turned to Grandma Yan for help.
Old Madam Yan always granted her precious grandson's every request, and now, faced with his pitiful little eyes, she could only nod vigorously.
"It's okay, Zizai can sleep with it however he likes. Or, why don't you come sleep on Grandma's bed?"
