Chapter 689. Should we try a self-inflicted injury scheme?

The jewelry store case is essentially the same as Yi Wei's case.

Zhu Qianying was actually one of the witnesses, but Yan Shao was unwilling to let Zhu Qianying stand in the witness stand and be questioned by the opposing lawyer, so he simply entrusted the lawyer to do it on her behalf.

Besides not wanting Zhu Qianying to be interrogated aggressively, he was even more unwilling for her to face the insane Yi Wei.

Nobody knows what outrageous things a madman might say.

Zhu Qianying was slightly taken aback, and after a long while, she raised her head to look at him.

"I don't want to go, is that okay?"

Just as Yan Shao had expected, Zhu Qianying did not want to see Yi Wei.

"Well, if you're not going, that's fine. I wasn't planning on going anyway. But Ke Kai will be going, and I'll relay the results in full."

Zhu Qianying responded lightly again, and the two of them tactfully changed the subject, no longer mentioning Yi Wei.

...

The next day, Zizai was still not in good spirits at the breakfast table, clearly having not slept well the night before.

After sending him back to school, Yan Shao, who had been extremely calm, couldn't help but call a child psychologist on the way to explain Zizai's situation and then humbly ask for the counselor's opinion.

The counselor suggested that the matter could be dealt with more slowly, allowing the child to gradually accept it. After all, judging from Yan Shao's account, the child was already trying to adapt. Moreover, for a child as opinionated as Zizai, psychological interference might not be effective.

Around 11 a.m., Ke Kai called.

"Sir, everything is as you predicted. Yi Wei was ordered to compensate Ying Jewelry for 500,000 yuan in economic losses. Given her current abnormal mental state, the lawyer filed a request with the court at your request. Finally, the court ruled that Yi Wei should be sent directly to a mental hospital later."

This judgment was basically, and entirely, within Yan Shao's expectations.

Did Yi Changxing make a big fuss?

"Sir, Yi Changxing and his family haven't shown up at all, what's all the commotion about?"

Ke Kai lamented the coldness of human relationships on the other end of the phone, saying that as her biological parents, they couldn't care less about Yi Wei's life or death.

Of course, Ke Kai's remarks were not at all about feeling sorry for Yi Wei; he was simply stating the facts.

After hanging up on Ke Kai, Yan Shao waited quite a while before picking up the phone and dialing Zhu Qianying's number.

Yan Shao relayed everything Ke Kai said on the phone to Zhu Qianying, and Zhu Qianying simply responded with a faint "yes".

Yan Shao knew that she was always reluctant to mention Yi Wei, but he couldn't leave her without giving her an explanation.

"Ying'er, are you still feeling uneasy?"

Yan Shao was prepared. If Zhu Qianying said yes, then he would prepare to kneel on a keyboard or a durian shell tonight to try and appease her.

Ultimately, his entanglement with Yi Wei stemmed from his poor judgment and indecisiveness.

Zhu Qianying on the other end of the microphone let out a long sigh, "No, I just hope that this person will never appear in our lives again."

"Don't worry, Ying'er, it definitely won't happen again!"

Yan Shao also breathed a sigh of relief. After reporting to Zhu Qianying, he made a phone call to the court to confirm some details and make sure there would be no more mistakes before he could finally relax.

As for Yi Changxing's absence from the trial, others might just think he's heartless, but Yan Shao knows that Yi Changxing and his family are still being held hostage by creditors at home. He estimates that within the next day or two, there will be concrete news of the Yi family's bankruptcy.

At that time, many people will surely say that this was all the result of Yan Shao's instigation.

These rumors, some true and some false, were of no concern to Young Master Yan, nor did he bother to pay them any attention. What he was now closely watching was no longer the Yi family, but the shameless father and son of the Zhu family.

Since being humiliated by Chen Jing and Luo Yifan that day, Zhu Zhizhou hasn't lingered near the restaurant anymore, presumably having given up hope.

After all, whether in terms of appearance or other qualities, he couldn't compare to Luo Yifan.

Since moving into Chen Jing's apartment, Luo Yifan has felt completely at ease. Even though Chen Jing took care of Bai Xiangdong at the seaside villa for several days in a row, he felt a little uncomfortable, but he never suspected anything about Chen Jing.

He told Chen Jing to stay at the villa and take care of Bai Xiangdong, while he conscientiously went to buy ingredients every day and managed the restaurant's accounts and staff. Even though Chen Jing was away these past few days, the restaurant continued to operate smoothly as usual.

When Chen Jing returned to the restaurant after seeing Bai Xiangdong off, business was as usual. However, Chen Jing felt quite conflicted as she listened to Xiao Ya and the others openly calling Luo Yifan "boss" and her "boss's wife" in front of her.

After Bai Xiangdong left with Bai Shao, Yan Shao temporarily took over his antique shop, which was almost completely renovated. He said that once Bai Xiangdong settled down, the shop would be disposed of according to his wishes.

That afternoon, Chen Jing, accompanied by Luo Yifan, wandered around the shop. When they left, they ran into Xiao Zhang, who had previously revealed the whereabouts of Chen Jing's parents.

The two chatted for a while, mainly about Chen Jing's parents and older brother. Luo Yifan stood to the side and understood most of what they heard.

On the way back to the restaurant, Luo Yifan suddenly said to Chen Jing, "Jing, let's find some time to go see your older brother together!"

Chen Jing stared at him in astonishment. Luo Yifan explained, "You said your older brother has been unwilling to open the door for you. Could it be that he thinks you and Zhu Zhizhou are still entangled? Would he be happier if I went with you?"

Chen Jing lowered her head and remained silent for a long time before finally replying, "Then let's go take a look together tomorrow afternoon."

Chen Jing had been turned away for almost a month. At first, her older brother would open the door to take a look, but when he saw it was her, he would slam the door shut.

Later on, there wasn't even an answering door anymore, as if there was no one inside at all.

But Chen Jing asked around among the neighbors and found out that a couple lived there.

Chen Jing hadn't visited Bai Xiangdong since he returned, but after hearing Luo Yifan's suggestion, she thought it might be a good idea.

After all, she had done the same thing too many times. When all else failed, changing her approach might lead to new progress.

Luo Yifan was secretly delighted when he saw Chen Jing nod in agreement. He was just thinking about what to buy to please his future brother-in-law the next day when he heard her say, "There's no need to prepare any gifts or anything like that. Even if you come with me, you'll most likely be turned away."

Even though Chen Jing had so earnestly reminded Luo Yifan, he still secretly slipped out while Chen Jing was busy in the kitchen at night to prepare a bunch of gifts.
