Tong Xiaohuai's room, like her personality, was so simple that it was almost unremarkable.
The first thing you see is a large bed with black and white stripes, next to a small bedside table. A not-so-large wardrobe stands on one side of the bed, and at the foot of the bed is a desk with some books on it. Near the terrace, there is a small bar that seems to have some alcohol on it, but Yanbo suspects that it is just for show.
After all, Tong Xiaohuai's personality doesn't seem like that of someone who enjoys having a few drinks in her spare time. Besides, she often works until late at night, so where would she find the time to enjoy wine?
Yan Bo's gaze swept over the space, which was as simple as a boy's room, and he felt a pang of sympathy for Tong Xiaohuai.
At her age, she should be in the prime of her life, spending her days leisurely shopping with her best friends, going on dates with her boyfriend, and watching movies.
However, her life was filled with the complicated, violent, and bloody events of the Tong family, and she had no freedom or happiness that a young girl should have.
"Come in, what's wrong? Are there tigers inside?"
Tong Xiaohuai listened to him, left the door open, walked over to the desk, and pulled out a chair to gesture for him to sit down.
Yan Bo walked over, but did not sit down. He simply leaned against the desk and casually flipped through the books she had placed on it.
"What a good student! Will you review when you get back?"
What Yanbo found was her university textbook, which had many parts underlined and annotated in black pen.
"I still need to take a look occasionally, even though it's all theoretical knowledge. To be honest, it's not as practical as what you told me."
Tong Xiaohuai couldn't quite explain her feelings. For her, university life was not just about studying, but also a place where she could experience a normal life.
There, she was just Tong Xiaohuai, a freshman in college. She could forget about the Tong family and simply live her student life.
Yan Bo turned his head and looked at her silently.
She appeared perfectly calm, without a trace of grievance or resentment. It seems she had long been mentally prepared for the fact that she was the eldest child in the Tong family, so even though she yearned for a normal life, she could still accept reality and diligently follow the path her father had laid out for her.
The calmer she became, the more upset Yanbo felt.
He reached out and gently pulled her into his arms.
Tong Xiaohuai didn't quite understand why Yan Bo had fallen silent. He pulled her into his arms, but she didn't dislike it. After all, she and he hadn't spent time together privately for several days, and she did miss his embrace.
Tong Xiaohuai had no idea what Yan Bo was thinking. She buried her head in his chest and rubbed against him a few times. Surprisingly, she smelled a faint smell of smoke. But he shouldn't smoke, right?
She nestled in his arms like a groundhog for a while, and after a long pause, she looked up at him.
"Hey, you smoke?"
Yan Bo lowered his eyes and saw that she had slightly furrowed her brows. He couldn't help but raise his hand to touch the space between her brows, which resembled the character "Cheng Chuan".
"I don't smoke, so what?"
Tong Xiaohuai tugged at his trench coat collar, "Then smell it yourself, it smells like smoke."
Yan Bo gently pushed her away, offered his hand, and sniffed, a faint, almost imperceptible smell of smoke entering his nose.
“My friend is a heavy smoker. During the day, we were at the hotel working on a proposal together. I took a nap at noon, and I guess he wore my trench coat when he went out to buy something.”
Tong Xiaohuai said "Oh".
"What? You really dislike men who smoke?"
Tong Xiaohuai neither denied nor admitted it.
"My dad smokes too. I wouldn't say I hate it, but I just don't like it."
Yan Bo felt that if he hadn't known Tong Xiaohuai's background from the investigation materials beforehand, he would have definitely classified her as a well-mannered young lady based solely on her character and daily habits.
"Xiao Huai, do you resemble Uncle Tong more or Aunt Tong more?"
Yan Bo pressed Tong Xiaohuai down into a chair, while he himself sat on the desk with his buttocks askew.
Tong Xiaohuai had never thought about this question before. She tilted her head and thought about it seriously for a moment. "My personality and way of doing things are more like my dad's. Actually, I have always admired my mom since I was a child. I think my mom has a very elegant temperament. Unfortunately, I can't find any trace of my mom in myself."
Tong Xiaohuai was somewhat frustrated and helpless.
Yanbo disagreed with her, saying, "But I think you're more like Aunt Tong. Although you are more like Uncle Tong in terms of personality, at first glance, you and Aunt Tong have a very similar temperament."
As Yanbo spoke, he put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her into his embrace.
She obediently leaned her head closer, her face rubbing against his abdomen, which felt firm and bouncy to the touch.
Tong Xiaohuai had always thought that Yan Bo had the air of a Confucian businessman, but the sensation on his abdomen surprised her. She paused for a moment, then raised her hand to touch it, wanting to confirm whether it was just her imagination.
When I touched it, I could clearly feel his firm abdominal muscles.
"What are you touching?" Yan Bo's voice came with a smile, and Tong Xiaohuai looked up at him with a smile.
"I didn't expect you to have such a great figure." Her frustration and helplessness had been completely diverted.
"I'm pretty good at fighting..." Yan Bo looked at her with a half-smile.
Tong Xiaohuai was skeptical. After hesitating for a moment, she ran her hand around his abdomen. Now she was pretty sure that he had at least six solid abs. However, to say that he was good at fighting would be a lie.
"You must have worked out at the gym, right? But you're already pretty good."
Tong Xiaohuai wasn't unfamiliar with men with six-pack or eight-pack abs; after all, there were plenty of muscular men in Tongjia Village.
But Yanbo is a noble young master, and besides, he always has a gentle smile on his face. Those abs couldn't possibly be from fighting.
Yan Bo shook his head, "It wasn't learned in the room, it was learned in actual combat."
"Real combat? You mean you were a special forces soldier?"
Tong Xiaohuai's words were mostly in jest.
Unexpectedly, Yan Bo nodded, "You could say that..."
Tong Xiaohuai struggled free from his embrace and looked at him in surprise, "Are you kidding me? Aren't you going abroad to study?"
Yan Bo didn't know how to explain it to her, so he patted her head and finally gave a brief explanation.
“That happened before I went abroad to study. I did spend some time in a special forces barracks.”
Almost everyone in the Yan family had the same experience, including his second sister, Yan Su.
Tong Xiaohuai's eyes widened like copper bells, as if she wanted to ask something. In the end, she felt that Yan Bo had no intention of going deeper into the matter. She thought that since he was involved with the special forces, there must be some unspeakable secret.
So, Tong Xiaohuai stopped asking and didn't press the matter any further.
Secretly, she thought Yan Bo was amazing; he had actually served in the special forces.
