Chapter 999: Waiting for His Return

"Senior, may I sit in Yanbo's office for a while?"

Tong Xiaohuai ignored Di Xu's question and pointed towards the office.

Di Xu looked her over a few times. "Of course!"

During the few days Yan Bo was away, Di Xu simply locked his office.

He took the key, opened the door, followed Tong Xiaohuai into the office, closed the door, and asked in a low voice, "Still no news from the boss?"

Tong Xiaohuai shook her head, "No...", her scrutinizing gaze carefully sweeping over every corner.

At first, she thought Yanbo's disappearance was just a coincidence, and that he might suddenly appear in front of her in a day or two.

But now that Yanbo has been missing for a week, she can't help but suspect that this is a premeditated scheme.

Although the chances of finding clues in his office were slim, she was desperate and unwilling to miss even the slightest possibility.

"Uncle Du, do you know any doctors who work at the First Affiliated Hospital of Beijing?"

Tong Xiaohuai suddenly remembered something. She had always firmly believed that Yan's mother was really sick, but if everything was premeditated, could it be that Yan's mother's illness was actually fake?

Uncle Du didn't react for a moment, "The First People's Hospital? I know them, what's wrong?"

Tong Xiaohuai sat down at Yan Bo's desk and began to carefully examine every item on it.

"Yanbo's mother is quite ill, and I'm a little worried. I'd like to trouble you to find out about her current condition for me."

Tong Xiaohuai, of course, wouldn't voice her doubts.

Firstly, because Di Xu was there.

Secondly, before confirming her guess, she was indeed somewhat worried about Yan's mother's health.

“Alright, I’ll try to find out for you. However, the Third Young Master’s family is quite special, so it’s not certain that I can find out.”

Uncle Du took the phone and walked to the window. Over there, Tong Xiaohuai asked about Di Xuyanhuang's situation these past few days.

"The boss had already arranged the work schedule for this week, so for the time being, everything is relatively calm. However, if the boss doesn't come back next week, things will get a bit troublesome."

Di Xu said that Tong Xiaohuai had lost weight, and he himself had also lost a lot of weight in the past week.

Yanhuang is a highly efficient company, and everyone has a lot of work to do. As a special assistant, he has to put in even more effort than others. This week, he also took care of Yanbo's work. You can imagine how heavy the burden on his shoulders and how much pressure he is under.

"Master Shi, think back carefully. Before he returned to the capital, did he really not say anything special or do anything strange?"

Tong Xiaohuai wasn't good at reasoning, but she tried her best to find some clues from Yan Bo's actions before he left.

Di Xu tried hard to recall for a while, and finally, looking at Tong Xiaohuai's earnest eyes, he shook his head.

He had never felt so guilty before, just by shaking his head.

"Junior sister, I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do to help."

Di Xu felt sympathy, heartache, and deep admiration for his junior sister.

"Senior brother, don't say that. The fact that you've managed Yanhuang so well is the biggest help you can give!"

As the two were talking, Uncle Du came back.

Tong Xiaohuai and Di Xu both looked up at him at the same time, and he helplessly shrugged at them.

“Xiao Huai, I’m sorry, he said it was inconvenient to disclose. However, I probed him, and judging from his reaction, Madam Yan’s illness is likely real, and quite serious.”

Tong Xiaohuai stayed at Yanhuang for nearly an hour but didn't find any suspicious clues. Afraid of interfering with Di Xu's work, she didn't dare stay any longer.

When she got up to say goodbye, Di Xu asked her if she wanted to have lunch together. Tong Xiaohuai hesitated for a moment, but ultimately declined his offer.

"No, senior brother, you must have a lot of things to do. As for food, we'll treat you to a big meal when Yanbo comes back."

Di Xu escorted Tong Xiaohuai to the elevator. "Junior Sister, take good care of yourself. The boss will be heartbroken to see you like this when he gets back!"

Tong Xiaohuai nodded, "Don't worry, I will wait patiently for him to come back."

Tong Xiaohuai's fever had just subsided when Uncle Du refused to let her go anywhere else and drove straight back to the Tong family home.

It was lunchtime, and as instructed by Uncle Du, Uncle Yuan brought out some porridge and snacks to the table.

Tong Xiaohuai ate a bowl of porridge, put down the bowl, said "I'm full, you can continue eating," and got up to go back to her bedroom.

Uncle Du and Uncle Yuan looked at her desolate figure, exchanged a helpless glance, and sighed in unison.

Tong Xiaohuai was forced to stay at home to rest, but her mind was full of Yan Bo, so she couldn't fall asleep.

He took out his phone and sent a few messages to Yan Bo. After sending them, he called Tao Jia to ask for the latest news.

Tao Jia's reply confirmed the information that Uncle Du had probed into.

"Aunt Qing is still in the hospital, and she's quite ill. I went to see her as soon as I got off the plane yesterday. She didn't seem to be in good spirits, so I didn't dare ask about Yanbo. I asked my dad about it, and he scolded me, 'Don't meddle in other people's business. Xiao Huai, I think Yanbo was probably tricked by his father into going somewhere else under some pretext."

Tao Jia is a person who rarely uses her brain, but her guess coincides with Tong Xiaohuai's initial guess.

"I understand, thank you, Jiajia."

"No need to thank me, I'm your sister. It's my responsibility to keep a close eye on my brother-in-law."

Even at this point, Tao Jia still couldn't resist taking advantage of Tong Xiaohuai.

Tong Xiaohuai smiled and said, "Alright, then I won't be polite. Sis, I'm hanging up now."

After hanging up the phone, Tong Xiaohuai put her hands behind her head and stared blankly at the ceiling.

In the past few days, except for the two days when she was delirious with fever, she spent most of her time making various phone calls to inquire about Yan Bo's whereabouts, but none of these calls yielded any information about him.

The reason is simply that she and Yanbo have very little overlap in their social circles.

Apart from Tao Jia and Di Xu, she knew almost nothing about Yan Bo's friends and social circle.

But there was nothing that could be done about it. Her background determined that her interactions with him would be very limited.

Sometimes I think that Yanbo's parents' opposition was not without reason.

She and Yan Bo are from completely different worlds.

But fate is so magical; people from two different worlds found a point of intersection between them.

That's what made them destined to be together.

This tiny bit of fate has probably already exhausted all her luck.

So, after their luck ran out, their hardships began.

"ah!!!"

Tong Xiaohuai suddenly screamed loudly; if she didn't scream, she thought she would go crazy!

Her scream caused a commotion outside.

"Xiao Huai, open the door quickly, what happened?" Outside the door, Uncle Du and Uncle Yuan asked in unison.
