Chapter 18: Zhu Qianying's Return Gift (Please add to your collection and support)

Yan Shao roared twice, his anger subsiding a bit. He plopped down on the sofa, glaring fiercely at his mother who had been making a fool of him, and asked, "So, what trick are you up to this time?"

Madam Yan kept smiling at him, even after she punched him just now.

Hearing his question, she didn't answer him. Instead, she leisurely lifted the lid of the teacup, poured in water, put the lid back on, held the teacup with two fingers and pressed down on the lid with one finger, tilted the teacup halfway, and poured the bright green tea into the teacup.

Yan Shao watched his mother slowly and methodically complete a series of actions. Before she could even make a move, he picked up the teacup and poured a cup for each of his parents, then poured one for himself, picked up the cup, and drank the tea in one gulp.

"Alright, go ahead and say it!"

Ever since he took over the Tong and Yan families' businesses at the age of eighteen, he has always remained calm and composed even in the face of a collapsing mountain. The impetuous side he displays now is probably only seen in front of Madam Yan.

Madam Yan deftly lifted the white jade cup, took a sip of tea, and then glanced at him with a smile, "You're allowed to send someone else's son abroad, but I'm not allowed to have some fun with you?"

Yan Shao's eyes narrowed, flashing a dangerous light.

"Did Tong Deming complain to you?"

Yan Shao gritted his teeth inwardly. Originally, he didn't intend to bother his mother with this matter. She had been retired for so many years, so he let her accompany his father to travel and have fun. He could deal with the Tong family's mess himself.

Unexpectedly, despite all her calculations, she never anticipated that Tong Deming, who was so loyal to her mother, would have a change of heart.

Madam Yan stopped smiling and gently put the cup down.

“Son, Ming is my cousin and your uncle. What Fengzi did was definitely not kind, and he didn’t mean to plead for Fengzi. He has no objection to you sending Fengzi abroad, and neither do I. However, you also have to understand his feelings as a father. You forbade your uncle from leaving the country. He just wanted to see his son, but he had to leave the country illegally. Tell me, is what you did kind?”

Yan Shao now basically connected the dots: "My uncle was arrested overseas?"

Madam Yan glanced at him and then nodded. "Yes, he called me for help, so of course I couldn't just stand by and watch him die. It wasn't a big deal to begin with; I could have just bought a plane ticket to see Fengzi. But because you tampered with things, he was detained in another country for two days. He had no choice but to call me for help."

Yan Shao laughed in exasperation, "Mom, you can't do that! Do you know how scared I was?!"

For families like the Yan and Tong, safety is of paramount importance. The slightest disturbance could lead to disaster if not carefully monitored.

Therefore, after learning that his parents had not boarded the plane, Yan Shao considered countless possibilities in his mind, some good, some bad.

When Mrs. Yan felt that the lesson was almost over, she said, "I didn't think too much about it at the time. When I received your uncle's call at the airport, I immediately arranged for someone to smooth things over. By the time we got him out, it was already very late, and there was no time to rush back to L City. So, we decided to stay here for the night."

What could Young Master Yan say? With a mother like this, he couldn't blame her, nor could he comfort her…

Ultimately, she was just trying to make him anxious so he could experience the pain Tong Deming went through trying to visit his son in various ways.

Yan Shao was secretly seething with hatred, but he couldn't do anything to his mother. After thinking it over, he suddenly stood up, his face dark, and turned to leave without saying a word.

"Son, where is my daughter-in-law?"

It's amazing that she still remembers this!

"They got away!" Young Master Yan threw down the words harshly, turned the doorknob, and darted out, slamming his fist on the ground.

Afterwards, Yan Shao rushed back to L City overnight. Uncle Hai, who was waiting in the hall, was woken up by the noise. He was a little surprised to see that only Yan Shao entered. He leaned over to look behind him and asked, "Where are the master and madam?"

"have no idea!"

With a cold face, Yan Shao strode upstairs. Halfway up the stairs, he suddenly stopped and said to Uncle Hai, who was downstairs picking up the phone to make a call.

"Have someone get some food!"

He flew from L City to H City at around 5 a.m. After arriving there, he immediately went around inquiring about information and tracking down his whereabouts. When he saw that his parents were safe, a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders, but he was so angry with his mother that he lost his appetite. By this time, his stomach had not eaten anything for more than ten hours.

Uncle Hai responded and was about to go to the kitchen when he suddenly remembered something. He turned around and said to Young Master Yan, who was coming upstairs, "Young Master, Miss Fifth sent someone to deliver some snacks tonight. Would you like to try some?"

The Fifth Miss that Uncle Hai mentioned is Zhu Qianying.

Yan Shao held onto the railing, paused for a moment, and then said, "Whatever," before striding upstairs.

Fearing he might go hungry, Uncle Hai first had the cook heat up the snacks that Zhu Qianying had sent over in the microwave. A few minutes later, he carried several plates of exquisite Chinese snacks and a pot of freshly brewed tea on a tray to Young Master Yan's study.

There is a bathroom in Yan Shao's study. Sometimes when Yan Shao is tired from work, he will go in to take a shower to refresh himself.

When Uncle Hai brought the snacks upstairs, Young Master Yan wasn't in the study, but the sound of running water could be faintly heard from the bathroom.

Uncle Hai knew he wouldn't last long, so he put down the snacks and left.

After taking a shower, Yan Shao casually wrapped himself in a bathrobe and came out.

On the coffee table, there was a cup of steaming hot tea and several plates of beautifully presented Chinese pastries.

Yan Shao is a notoriously difficult person to please.

This difficulty in being taken care of is also reflected in his picky eating habits.

Most young people today like Western-style desserts, but he finds them too sweet and prefers Chinese-style desserts.

However, even though he loves Chinese pastries, he didn't have much hope for the pastries on the coffee table.

After all, his discerning palate isn't something just anyone can please.

But he was really hungry, so he picked up a fried taro spring roll, took a bite, and chewed it carefully. He found that the spring roll was fragrant, crispy, sweet but not greasy, and had an excellent texture.

He knew that Zhu Qianying's mother was the cook in the Zhu family, but he didn't expect that Zhu Qianying's mother's cooking skills were so good. No wonder she could win over Zhu Zhizhou's stomach.

However, he misunderstood.

These pastries were not made by Chen Jing, but by Zhu Qianying herself.

After finishing her phone call with Zhu Qianyu, she intended to work, but she couldn't find any inspiration while staring at the computer for a while. So, she got up and went to the kitchen to make some desserts.

Strangely enough, she utterly despised her mother for always cooking for her father in the middle of the night, yet whenever she lacked inspiration, she would always go to the kitchen to make some snacks, hoping to find some inspiration along the way.

After making a lot of desserts, she started to worry again: how could she possibly eat so many?

Finally, she had a bright idea: she packed the pastries in a box and had the driver deliver them to the Yan family's house.

Consider it a return gift for the fact that she ate most of Yan Shao's food and those two cell phones that morning!
