The elevator, which had been unfairly blamed for so many things, delivered the family of six to their destination. Zhu Qianying and Yan Shao, each holding a child's hand, looked up at Chen Jing and Luo Yifan walking side by side in front of them and felt that they, like the child, were just like the child.
She probably still looked like a child to the elders she met later.
Presumably because of the precedent set yesterday, after the group stood at the door, Chen Jing pushed Luo Yifan forward, signaling him to ring the doorbell.
Luo Yifan neither refused nor objected, and deftly placed his hand on the doorbell.
A few seconds later, the door opened from the inside, and the face of a man in his fifties appeared on the other side of the iron gate.
Needless to say, this is his uncle.
The iron gate opened, and Zhu Qianying heard her mother call out "Brother!", while Luo Yifan called out "Mr. Chen."
That makes sense, considering that he and his mother are currently just boyfriend and girlfriend, and it would be too presumptuous to address her as his mother normally.
"Uncle, I am Ying'er, this is my son, Zizai, and this is my husband Yanhan."
Zhu Qianying first introduced herself to the middle-aged man in front of her who bore a resemblance to her mother, and inside she was actually a little excited.
The long-held yearning for loved ones has finally been met with a tangible response.
"Ah, hello, please come in and have a seat!"
My uncle seemed like a very honest person. When he was facing them, his smiling expression was a little stiff, but you could tell that it was just a kind of awkwardness. You could still vaguely feel his enthusiasm.
Now, Zhu Qianying believed her mother's initial judgment.
It wasn't that the uncle didn't want to acknowledge his mother as his sister; rather, he was too embarrassed to admit it.
"Brother, where's sister-in-law?!"
After Chen Jing visited yesterday, she was clearly no longer too awkward.
"He's in the kitchen!"
Chen Jing and Luo Yifan originally planned to eat out, but the two elderly people had difficulty moving around, so they ultimately decided to eat at home instead.
Chen Jing then took Zhu Qianying and Zizai to the kitchen to greet her sister-in-law before leading them to knock on a door.
Zhu Qianying guessed that this should be her maternal grandparents' room.
"Come in..." came the aged voice, accompanied by a cough.
Chen Jing pushed open the door, and Zhu Qianying finally saw the two elders she had been curious about and longed to meet.
"Grandma, Grandpa!"
Zhu Qianying walked up to the two elderly people in wheelchairs and called out to them emotionally.
The two elderly people tilted their heads slightly, extended their trembling hands, and grasped her hands together. "You must be Ying'er?"
Zhu Qianying nodded and then waved to Zizai, signaling him to come over.
Zizai obediently ran over and greeted the two elderly people with a smile, "Hello, Great-Grandpa! Hello, Great-Grandma! My name is Zizai, and I'm my mommy's son!"
Zizai's following sentence, which perfectly aligns with a child's logic, made Zhu Qianying burst into laughter.
Chen Jing was also amused, but an elderly couple with red eyes pulled him closer and looked at him carefully.
After looking at Zizai to her heart's content, Grandma suddenly remembered something, looked up and asked Chen Jing, "Where's Xiaoyu...?"
It seems that although they have been seemingly indifferent to Chen Jing all these years, they are actually well aware of the existence of their granddaughters, Zhu Qianying and Zhu Qianyu.
Zhu Qianying had only been inside for about ten minutes when she realized that her maternal grandparents and uncles were all very concerned about her mother.
Years ago, the two sides were frozen together by the Bamboo Isle, but after Luo Yifan broke the ice, they gradually reconciled.
No one brought up the past again, but during the meal, the grandparents asked Luo Yifan when he planned to marry their daughter.
Clearly, what they care about more is their daughter's future happiness.
"Uncle, Auntie, once Jing and I get back from the food expo, we'll start preparing for this."
Clearly, he didn't want to disappoint his parents, so he directly concealed the fact that he hadn't even proposed.
Zhu Qianying then realized that Luo Yifan had even told her about her mother attending the food expo.
"Well, that's good. Jing, you must do your best this time. You've won a gold medal before, so don't let irrelevant people or things bury your talent."
Zhu Qianying watched her mother nod hurriedly, confirming once again that when her maternal grandparents said they wanted to sever ties with her mother in a fit of anger, it was just an extreme measure born out of disappointment and frustration.
When Grandpa brought up the old story again, it was probably also to remind Mom not to let her relationship with Luo Yifan interfere with the competition.
Luo Yifan clearly understood the implication and quickly assured him, "Uncle, don't worry, A-Jing is in excellent form lately and will definitely achieve remarkable results."
So, the first half of the dinner was basically spent with Grandpa nagging Mom, but in the second half, the conversation gradually became lighter because everyone's attention was mainly focused on Zizai and Xiaoyu's unborn baby.
My aunt and uncle are clearly the same kind of people, honest but a little dull.
Because Zhu Qianying's cousin is almost thirty years old and still unwilling to get married, he is so eager to have a grandchild that he drools over it. Now that he has seen Zizai, he dotes on him in every way.
As for the eldest grandparents, they adored their great-grandson, Zizai, whose sweet words were like honey. Once the topic turned to Zizai, bursts of laughter frequently echoed in the dining room.
After dinner, Grandma and Grandpa, who are used to going to bed early, sat in their wheelchairs in the living room chatting with everyone. However, they are getting old and could not join in the conversation most of the time. So, they played with their grandson, and occasionally looked up to look at their son, daughter and granddaughter. The living room was filled with a happy and harmonious atmosphere.
The family dinner that night far exceeded Chen Jing's expectations.
Therefore, she seemed somewhat excited on the way back. It was unclear whether it was because she had drunk some wine, or because she was happy, or perhaps both.
"Brother Luo, thank you. It's all thanks to your persistence yesterday. Otherwise, I don't know how long it would have taken me to break the deadlock with my parents."
In Chen Jing's view, Luo Yifan was actually a person who cared a lot about his image. The reason he would shamelessly stay outside the door with her was entirely because of her.
Luo Yifan glanced at Zhu Qianying and Zizai before turning his gaze back and smiling.
"You're welcome. I'm doing this for myself."
Zhu Qianying always felt that the atmosphere in the carriage was extremely subtle, and that there were faint crackling sparks flying in the dark.
She regretted not having the driver bring two cars. That way, she, Zizai, and Yan Shao wouldn't have become third wheels here, blindly flashing around!
