Mo Qingcheng pulled Bai Yueniang up: "Let's go, it's not safe here!"
The one-eyed man opened his eyes, looking completely bewildered: "Madam... what's wrong?"
"We'll talk about it when we get back!" Mo Qingcheng glanced at the one-eyed man, then turned around. Bai Yi, dressed in white with plum blossoms on his clothes, looked disgusted. He took out a pill from his pocket and stuffed it into Bai Yi's mouth.
"Eat quickly, or we won't be able to complete the mission..."
Mo Qingcheng was both amused and exasperated. She shook her head. Bai Yi and the others waited at the designated location, while Mo Qingcheng remained in a state of unease.
Bai Yueniang was extremely worried, but dared not utter a sound, for staying would only be a burden. She had seen the mysterious man in white twice, and both times he was injured, which showed how dangerous the situation was at the time.
Half an hour later, Mo Qingcheng smiled coldly, met up with the others, and headed straight for the inn.
"Sister Mo, are you alright?"
Mo Qingcheng shook her head: "It's nothing. You're covered in other people's blood. Don't worry. Do any of you feel unwell?"
Bai Yueniang and Shangguan Yichen shook their heads, indicating that he was fine. Mo Qingcheng then asked about the one-eyed dragon's condition.
One-Eyed Dragon hesitated for a moment: "Madam, I'm afraid one of our own has betrayed us..."
"Indeed, I think so too. Otherwise, how could things be so coincidental? Once could be a coincidence, but this coincidence is bound to raise suspicion." Mo Qingcheng's cold voice rang out from the carriage. The one-eyed man seemed to understand something; what his lady said made perfect senseā¦
"Madam, why don't we go home?" the one-eyed man asked stupidly.
Mo Qingcheng smiled without saying a word. Only a fool would go home. Going back in a couple of days... isn't too late...
A sense of disappointment welled up in the one-eyed man's heart. Did the lady think he was stupid or did she think he was stupid?
They found an inconspicuous inn and booked three rooms. Mo Qingcheng and Bai Yueniang shared one, Shangguan Yichen and Bai Yi shared another, and the one-eyed dragon shared a room by himself.
Bai Yueniang sensed that something was wrong, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
After a satisfying meal, everyone rested. Mo Qingcheng and Bai Yueniang lay on the bed and had a heart-to-heart talk.
"Moon, if one day your sister leaves for the time being, what will you do?"
Bai Yueniang jumped up in fright: "Sister Mo, don't scare me! I'll follow you wherever you go..."
"Moon, there is a part of life that you are destined to walk alone. It might be better if I come back to pick you up after I've settled things up..." Mo Qingcheng's eyes were slightly narrowed. Without any trump cards in her hand, she had no confidence.
With family in tow, it's better to leave alone sooner rather than later if their safety cannot be guaranteed...
Mo Qingcheng drifted off to sleep as she pondered these thoughts, while Bai Yueniang tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep for a long time...
Two days later, Bai Yi's injuries were almost completely healed. He was astonished to find that the young master's medicine was even better than his own. Was it given to him by the madam?
The group boarded the carriage, and Bai Yi was pressed into it, looking very restrained. Mo Qingcheng gave him a disdainful look. "You're not even allowed to protect the young master?"
Bai Yi was utterly defeated. He closed his eyes, determined not to look at what was improper.
Bai Yueniang chuckled, exchanged a glance with Mo Qingcheng, one engrossed in drawing blueprints, the other cutting out patterns. Shangguan Yichen continued reading his military treatise.
The one-eyed man shook his head, focusing intently on driving. If he didn't work harder, he might not even be qualified to drive...
Back home, the children swarmed around him, and Bai Ziming, his face streaked with tears, cried out, "Mother, are you abandoning us again?"
Mo Qingcheng was speechless and choked with emotion. "Baby, why are you being so dramatic?"
Old Man Bai's expression was solemn as he handed a letter to Mo Qingcheng: "A letter from Yifan..."
