Bai Yueniang and Bai Yifan walked out of the study hand in hand, their faces flushed. They were stunned by what they saw.
"Brother Yifan, go down and walk around for a bit." Bai Yueniang patted Bai Yifan's hand.
Bai Yifan couldn't help but smile wryly. Was Yue'er being mischievous?
Mo Qingcheng chuckled: "Brother-in-law, hurry up and take a few steps so my Yue'er can have a good look."
Bai Yifan's eyes flickered: "You're younger than me..."
"What nonsense are you talking about? Call her Sister Mo!" Bai Yueniang rolled her eyes. Either obey or leave.
"..." Bai Yifan, Yue'er, how could you bear to see me get hurt?
Left with no other choice, Bai Yifan dodged and drew his long sword, engaging Bai Yi in combat.
Bai Yi glanced at it coldly, then unleashed his killing move. Did he think I was bored?
Mo Qingcheng and Bai Yueniang laughed and commented, while the three men—two adults and one child—took their leave…
The next morning, Bai Yifan rode away in a white shadow, leaving Bai Yueniang feeling somewhat down. Before she could even lament the passing of autumn and spring, Mo Qingcheng dragged her over and tormented her until she questioned the meaning of life.
The two arrived at the greenhouse built in the backyard, and Bai Yueniang exclaimed in surprise, "Sister Mo, are these the mushrooms and cherry tomatoes we planted before?"
Mo Qingcheng nodded, a faint mushroom aroma wafting into her nostrils, the cherry tomatoes bright red and very tempting.
Taking advantage of her momentary lapse in attention, Bai Yueniang picked a cherry tomato, didn't even wipe it, and popped it directly into her mouth.
Mo Qingcheng: "..."
"Moon, eat slowly, or your brother Bai will come after you." Mo Qingcheng said with a teasing look in her eyes, picking a handful of cherry tomatoes and throwing them into her mouth one after another without even washing them.
Bai Yueniang: "..."
The pot calling the kettle black; who isn't a foodie at heart?
The two picked a basket of mushrooms, some cherry tomatoes, half a basket of green vegetables, and a few cucumbers, and then headed home.
Bai Yueniang had been worried about how to divide the cherry tomatoes the whole way. Mo Qingcheng was both amused and exasperated: "You eat first."
Hehe, how can that be? The children would surround her completely!
At noon, Mo Qingcheng added a dish to her meal: tomato and beef brisket. They were quite lucky; no one knew how One-Eyed Dragon and Fatty had managed to persuade them to buy an old yellow ox.
The government has a clear rule that oxen cannot be slaughtered at will, except when they die of old age or illness. This ox probably suffered a stroke; it took a few steps and then died.
Upon hearing the news, One-Eyed and Fatty rushed off to buy cattle...
A big pot of beef brisket filled the courtyard with its aroma, whetting the little ones' appetites.
"Mom, is the beef brisket delicious?" As a seasoned foodie, how could Bai Zimo pass up such a good opportunity to ask?
Mo Qingcheng was both amused and exasperated: "Of course it's delicious, Mother has tried it once."
"Oh, Mother doesn't like Momo anymore?"
Mo Qingcheng: "..."
You're right, and I'm speechless.
Seeing that no one was speaking up for him, Bai Zimo pursed his lips and wisely turned the page.
Mo Qingcheng asked Bai Yueniang to have Liu Cuihua and Third Grandma prepare two more dishes: cucumber stir-fried with eggs and meat stir-fried with enoki mushrooms.
These dishes were just for a taste, not many were made. The children were still hungry and their taste buds longed for more.
One-Eyed Dragon and Li Ergou and his brothers only shared a small bowl, not even leaving a drop of soup. The bowl was cleaner than their faces, and the grown men laughed heartily.
Sun Chuyuan and the others didn't get to have that much, and Liu Cuihua and Third Grandma only got half a small bowl.
"Hmph, does Madam look down on us? Why does Li Ergou have everything, but we don't?" Sun Chuyuan's wife complained while eating.
Sun Chuyuan frowned: "Shut up!"
"You've been blinded by your wife's infidelity?"
"Are you out of your mind?"
