Chapter 13: Fish that Eats Wild Vegetables
Xu Nian asked Xu Kang to take Xu Ling and Xu Cai away. She picked up a stone and threw it into the pond. Unexpectedly, there were fish in the pond, but most of them were very small.
Xu Nian put his hand in the water, actually using his mind to release the fish in the stream in space into the pond.
"Sister, there really is a fish, a really big fish." Xu Jian shouted excitedly.
"Keep your voice down, or you might scare the fish away." Although Xu Ji was also very happy, he was a very calm person. Not only did he not show his joy, he also reminded his younger brother.
Xu Nian found it funny. She was not afraid that the fish would run away. As long as she put her hand into the water, the fish would chase her.
Xu Nian put in about six or seven fish and then stopped. Xu Kang and the other two also came over out of curiosity.
"Xiaokang, take Ling'er and Xiaocai back to call for help. We can't catch this fish."
Although the two younger ones were very curious, they still obediently returned to the cave with their brother.
In fact, Xu Nian could catch all the fish by himself, but that was too unrealistic. You know, it is not easy for an adult to catch a fish without any tools.
The three siblings didn't have to wait long before they saw their uncle Xu Weian running over with a few teenagers, some holding baskets and some holding sticks.
"Big girl, the second boy said there is a big fish here, where is it?"
Xu Nian looked at his uncle's excitement and pointed to the center of the pond, where several fish were swimming around.
Xu Weian was jealous. He now had dinner in the evening. He had been eating so many wild vegetables in the past few days that he almost turned into a wild vegetable.
However, although the water level of the pond has dropped a lot due to the drought, the depth is not shallow. A group of people stood by the water and sighed as they looked at the school of fish.
Xu Nian really couldn't bear to watch it, so he picked two wild vegetables and threw them into the basket. He put the basket into the pond, and saw the fish swimming towards the basket.
People were surprised to see this, they never thought that fish would eat wild vegetables.
"This fish is really hungry. It's really pitiful."
Xu Nian was speechless when she heard her uncle's sigh. She felt that she seemed to have overestimated the IQ of this group of people. They could always find a reasonable reason to convince themselves of anything.
When the others saw this, they followed suit and put their baskets into the water, but strangely enough, all the fish went towards the basket of the Xu family girl.
"Sister Xu, what wild vegetables did you put there? Why aren't the fish coming over?"
Xu Nian handed the basket with two fish to Xu Weian, then walked over to the young man who asked the question and randomly picked a wild vegetable and threw it into the young man's basket.
After doing all this, Xu Nian did not leave, but squatted beside the boy and pretended to wash his hands.
"Hey, here they come, the fish are coming."
This shout seemed to turn on a switch, and Xu Nian repeated the actions of picking wild vegetables and washing his hands.
In the end, not only did the group of teenagers catch all the fish that Xu Nian put in the pond, they also caught all the small fish in the pond.
Everyone was happy to see the abundant harvest.
Xu Nian was still thinking about her father going to buy food, so she greeted him:
"Let's go back first. There are no big fish to catch here."
The young men, who were already in high spirits, all said "OK" in unison when they heard Xu Nian's words.
Xu Nian didn't know how tall she was among the young men now.
When the group returned to the cave, the people who went to the city to buy food had not returned yet. The villagers looked at the large and small fish in their baskets in amazement.
"This fish must be more than ten pounds. How did you catch such a big fish?"
"Look, it's still alive."
While everyone was looking at the fish curiously, Xu Nian came to the village chief.
"Grandpa Village Chief, why haven't my father and his family come back yet? Do we need someone to go out and greet them?"
"I've asked your uncle to take the people there. I don't know if something happened."
Xu Nian felt a little sorry for the old man who had been worrying about the villagers all the way.
"Grandpa Village Chief, I think I was delayed in buying food. You don't have to worry too much.
By the way, we caught a lot of fish in the pond and we had fish soup in the evening."
The village chief felt very comforted when he saw the girl trying hard to comfort him. He thought that the girl from the Xu family was smart and kind-hearted, and the villagers had misjudged her before.
As soon as Xu Nian returned to her own territory, she saw Zheng stopping her and whispering, "Girl, why are you so mean? We have already given out all the money, but why are you still sharing the food with the villagers?"
Xu Nian knew that her aunt was a stubborn person but had a good heart, so she patiently explained, "Aunt, didn't the village chief say that?
We have to stick together in the future. If we hide something today, then others will have to do the same tomorrow, and then the words of the village chief will be in vain."
Although Zheng understood this, she still muttered, "How do you know that others don't hide anything?"
Wang looked at her second daughter-in-law and her eldest granddaughter whispering to each other and called out, "Second daughter-in-law, is there anything you cannot say that others in the family can't hear?
The eldest girl is tired after a morning of work. If you have anything to say, let her sit down first."
Zheng responded sullenly. She finally understood that the eldest girl chosen by the Mountain Goddess was about to become the number one person in the Xu family.
Tian handed the eldest maid a bamboo tube.
"Nian'er, drink some water. Don't go out if you have nothing to do. All the strong men in the village have gone down the mountain. What if something happens?"
Xu Nian responded obediently. She had now gotten used to Tian's nagging.
In Xu Nian's opinion, Tian may not be a strong woman, but she is an excellent mother.
"Listen to your mother, wait until the people who came down the mountain come back before going out to look for things."
Wang also agreed.
As soon as I finished talking, I heard a noisy sound outside the cave.
Wang slapped her thigh and said:
"Oh, are Yaozu and the others back?"
Xu Nian followed the Xu family out of the cave and saw Xu Yaozu and others surrounded by villagers.
Xu Yaozu, who had just exchanged a few words with the village chief, was dragged over by Wang. Seeing the wound on Xu Yaozu's face, Wang said sadly:
"Who the hell is this? This is a fatal move."
"My husband, what happened?"
Xu Nian also went forward to take a look. The injuries were indeed serious. This was visible, but it was hard to tell what the injuries were like in the invisible parts.
"Grandma, Mom, stop crying and clean Dad's wound first, otherwise what will happen if it gets infected?"
After hearing what Xu Nian said, the two of them let go of Xu Yaozu's arms.
Xu Yaozu breathed a sigh of relief. His mother was very strong and pressed just right on his wound. In order not to worry the old lady, he did not dare to shout out.
Xu Yaozu, who was about to leave with his family, suddenly remembered that he seemed to have forgotten something.
He slapped his head and let the boy standing behind the crowd move out.
"Everyone, please make way. This is our benefactor, Master Mu. He will be traveling with us for a while."
Just now everyone's attention was on the food and the villagers, and no one noticed the young man standing at the back.
