Chapter 1: Bury Your Mother
"Tian Bao, your mother looks like she's dying. It's better to carry her to the mountains and bury her there instead of watching her starve and freeze here!"
"But...but, mother hasn't died yet!"
A woman said, "Uncle is right. Even if mother is still breathing, she won't last much longer. We are just trying to escape the famine, we can't let her drag us down, right? Tian Bao, don't forget that I'm carrying your baby in my belly!"
A burst of argument sounded in Zhao Chunhua's ears.
Her body felt as if it was pierced by countless needles. She was extremely hungry and her stomach was churning and making constant rumbling sounds.
What's going on?
Didn’t she just buy a new house and the developer ran away, so she went to argue with them and fell to her death?
Just as she was terrified, she heard a cry from the side. She opened her eyes and saw a group of thin people surrounding her, talking.
Although it was winter, these people's clothes were tattered and they wore straw sandals. They were pale and thin and looked like refugees.
Someone lifted her up in the chaos, a few tears fell on her face, a man in his early twenties cried bitterly.
"Mother! I am an unfilial son! You can go without worry. It's all because of this bad world and the rebellion of that damned King Han that we are in such a state!"
"Mom, wuwuwu... At least dig a deep hole for her, so that other hungry people don't dig her out and eat her."
Zhao Chunhua was suddenly shocked and groaned inwardly: They are trying to bury her alive!
It was also her bad luck that she was reborn as Zhao Chunhua, a 42-year-old widow from a small village on the border of the Great Xia Dynasty. She had a strong personality and a bad reputation, so she had never married.
Until her frail elder sister died of overwork, her family forced her to marry off as a concubine, and she gave birth to two sons and a daughter.
After her life finally started to get better, her husband passed away, leaving her alone to raise her three children and also adopted a black boy named Zhang Daniu.
Life was already difficult for an orphan and a widow, but three consecutive years of drought reduced the harvest to almost zero, so the villagers decided to flee the famine.
When they set out, they became exhausted and fainted due to enduring hunger and cold for a long time.
Even though she was still alive, her stepson Zhang Tianbao and her biological son Zhang Tianfu planned to transport her and bury her.
It's really not their fault. The original body was usually too strict and even harsh in treating the children at home. In addition, she had a bad temper and was rude. She was known as a shrew in the village and was intimidating to everyone.
It’s overwhelming to think that I will be forced to face several grown-up children when I’m only in my thirties.
You must save yourself, otherwise you will be buried alive!
When I tried hard to raise my hand, I found that my throat was dry and I couldn't make any sound. I could only make a weak and hoarse sound.
The pregnant eldest daughter-in-law Xie Lanqin keenly noticed the movement and shouted: "Oh! Tian Bao, hurry up, don't miss the time to hurry, we can't fall behind!"
At this time, a thin little boy in tattered clothes ran over, grabbed Zhao Chunhua's hand tightly and said loudly: "I just saw Mom's fingers move! She is not dead yet, you can't bury her!"
Xie Lanqin yelled in a shrill voice: "What nonsense are you talking about! I just tried it, and the old lady was out of breath. Go away and don't get in the way!"
A man as strong as an ox rushed over, grabbed Zhang Daniu by the collar and lifted him up: "Go away! Boy, you are just a bastard picked up from outside, and you dare to meddle in the Zhang family's affairs? I might as well bury you too, and wait for you to serve her down there and repay her kindness!"
This man was the mastermind who instigated the Zhang family to bury Zhao Chunhua, Zhao Chunhua's uncle Zhang Defu.
He looked ferocious and was about to throw the skinny Zhang Daniu to the ground.
Zhang Daniu's eyes were red, and he kicked wildly in the air: "Put her down! You are killing her, you can't bury my mother alive!"
Zhao Chunhua's two sons, one daughter and eldest daughter-in-law stood by and said nothing.
Xie Lanqin also chimed in: "Uncle is right! He is not a member of our Zhang family. Why should he eat for free? Why not sell him and the old lady's body to exchange for some food!"
Everyone's eyes rolled around, obviously moved.
"I want fine grains! I want meat!" Zhang Defu's son Zhang Erxi cheered on the side.
Zhang Defu began to make plans in his mind.
Zhang Daniu's face turned red and he cursed desperately, but he was too thin and weak to shake the bull-like Zhang Defu.
Zhao Chunhua felt a chill in her heart. Even though the original owner had always provided her children with good food and drink, now only her adopted youngest son stood up for her.
Seeing that she and her youngest son were about to fall into the tiger's mouth, Zhao Chunhua didn't know where she got the strength from, she suddenly sat up from the cart, and stared at everyone fiercely.
Her voice was hoarse but commanding: "Put my child down!"
"Ah! He's resurrected!"
Zhang Defu's face turned pale and he subconsciously loosened his grip. The little black boy fell to the ground. He hurriedly ran to Zhao Chunhua and stared around vigilantly, as if he would fight to the death if anyone dared to move again.
Zhao Chunhua patted Xiao Heizi's head with all her might, and swept her cold eyes over everyone, angrily scolding Zhang Defu, the instigator:
"Zhang Defu, you are so good at being a boss. Not only do you boss us around on weekdays, but today you even ordered my son to bury me, your mother!"
"Aren't you afraid that God will take you away for such a heartless thing?"
Hearing this, the two sons of the Zhang family lowered their heads in embarrassment.
Daughter Zhang Baozhu was the first to run up crying: "Mom! We really didn't want to bury you, it was... they said you were gone!"
Zhao Chunhua sneered: "I was really dying, but when I got to the King of Hell, he sent me back!"
"I worked so hard to raise you guys, and you didn't even have a good day, so I won't die! But some people are so vicious that they want the children to kill their mothers. It's really unforgivable. The King of Hell will come after them sooner or later!"
She stared at Zhang Defu's family with cold eyes.
Zhang Defu felt uncomfortable all over when she stared at him, as if needles were pricking his back, and his original arrogance immediately disappeared a lot.
"Second brother and sister-in-law, we are doing this for your own good. We don't want you to suffer outside!"
Zhao Chunhua said coldly: "Whether it is for me or for the two bags of noodles in my house, you know it best!"
If the original owner was arrogant and fierce, then this family was even more cruel and ruthless, and they often exploited them.
He pretends to be a good person and uses the name of concern to do bad things.
Zhang Defu's face turned green and red as he was driven by her. He said angrily, "Forget about it, you guys should just flee on your own from now on. Don't expect us to help you anymore!"
This was exactly what she wanted, and Zhao Chunhua immediately decided: "That's great, you guys go, don't let my children help you carry your luggage, and return the food you took away!"
