Chapter 11 I Hate This Family
Zhao Chunhua was very surprised.
Zhang Youcai nodded heavily and said, "Yes, last night it was thanks to Aunt Zhao who took the lead in rescuing people that the bandits were driven away. My father said that Aunt Zhao is smart, so I would like to ask you to discuss what to do next."
Zhao Chunhua didn't expect that after the battle with the bandits last night, her status would be improved so much that she could even participate in the meetings of the village heads.
Seeing her coming, the village heads moved to make room for her.
The village chief praised her a few more times, and then said: "I don't know when the rain will stop. Although this dilapidated temple can shelter us from the rain, it leaks in from all sides. It is too cold at night, and the villagers can't stand it. We have to find a way."
After hearing this, a group of people looked at the sky outside which looked like it had a hole in it, and sighed.
The villagers were wearing tattered clothes, and most of them were wearing thin sweatshirts.
In addition, they often did not have enough to eat and their physical condition was not very good. When blown by the cool wind, many people started sneezing and looked like they had a cold.
Zhao Chunhua was also full of sorrow.
It looks like the rain won't stop any time soon.
They couldn't travel in the rain under such circumstances, after all, it would be very dangerous to get sick on the road.
But this dilapidated temple is really rotten.
It was leaking wind and rain everywhere, just like a sieve.
There were several wooden boards in the temple that had rotted away and had to be used as firewood, with no other use at all.
Suddenly, Zhao Chunhua noticed the wooden carts used by the villagers to pull their luggage.
"Let everyone unload the stuff first, then turn the wooden cart over and stand in a circle around it to block the wind."
"Sister Chunhua, you are really smart. We really didn't expect this."
After hearing this, Zhang Youcai immediately gave a thumbs up and his eyes lit up.
The village chief immediately asked the villagers to do so.
With the cover of the wooden cart, the situation has improved a lot.
Zhao Chunhua then said to the village chief: "Someone has to be on duty at night. It seems that this place is relatively safe, but we still have to be prepared for possible dangers. The last cave experience was fortunately discovered in time, otherwise it would have been troublesome."
When this matter was mentioned, everyone felt nervous.
They quickly gathered the young people in the village, and at Zhao Chunhua's suggestion, divided them into several groups to take shifts to keep watch at night.
Because of the rain, everyone could only gather together, looking at the falling rain with sad faces.
The rain had been falling all day and there was no sign of it stopping. Everyone was extremely anxious.
There wasn't much dry wood in the temple, and no one wanted to light a fire to keep warm.
It was not until after dark that some families began to light small fires to cook.
Most people chose not to eat it. As they had little food in stock, they all hoped to save as much food as possible.
The Zhang family's children were already growling with hunger, and the faint smell of food in the air made it even more unbearable for them, but no one asked for food.
The children around her kept swallowing their saliva. Zhao Chunhua shook her head and waved her hands.
"You guys can't do this, just cook."
Seeing her take out a basin of black noodles, several people widened their eyes in surprise.
"Mom, we don't need to eat so much."
They only have two bags of flour now. If they continue to eat like this, how many days can they survive at most?
What to do next?
Zhao Chunhua said: "We need to eat well and be full, especially now that we have a pregnant woman, so every meal must be nutritious."
Xie Lanqin was stunned and looked up at her in disbelief.
At a glance.
I feel like my mother-in-law has really changed.
In the past, when eating at home, Zhang Tianbao and Zhang Tianfu, the men who did the heavy work, could eat thick staple foods, but she could only drink thin soup.
Even after she became pregnant, Zhao Chunhua only gave her a little more thick porridge.
But now, not only does she get enough to eat every time, but she’s also given some dried meat occasionally.
This change made Xie Lanqin a little uneasy.
Zhao Chunhua didn't notice her abnormality and was busy directing others to do the same.
Before long, a big pot of noodle soup was ready.
The noodle soup was dark in color and didn't look very good.
Zhao Chunhua added some dried wild vegetables to the soup.
This way it looks better and is easier to eat.
There are quite a few people in their family, so even though they made such a big pot, each person only got one bowl.
Zhang Tianfu took the bowl and drank several mouthfuls impatiently. He cried out in pain because of the heat, but he still swallowed it.
“It smells so good!”
Zhang Dajun and Zhang Tianbao also enjoyed it.
Only Zhang Baozhu, Xie Lanqin and Daniu are a little more particular.
It was still raining outside, and the whole family sat around the fire, enjoying the hot soup.
The fragrance spread in the wind, making the surrounding villagers drool.
The people from the first house were even more jealous.
Zhang Erxi's mouth was watering as he watched his neighbors eating with such relish.
"Mom, I want to eat too! I'm starving!"
He grabbed Bai Xiaowei's arm and yelled.
Bai Xiaowei looked at the little food left at home, glared at the person over there, and then comforted him, "We don't have much at home, just bear with it for now, I'll make you a good meal tomorrow."
"Why can others eat but I can't?"
Zhang Erxi pushed her away as if he was angry, hugged his empty stomach, and insisted on eating.
Just when Bai Xiaowei didn't know what to do, Zhang Defu said gruffly, "Don't be so stingy, give the children something to eat!"
As he spoke, he glanced over there angrily.
Bai Xiaowei understood that he was angry with the second wife, so she sighed, and finally took out a large multi-grain cake from the bag, cut it into two halves and handed them to the two of them.
When Zhang Erxi saw the pancake, his eyes lit up. He quickly snatched it and started to eat it ravenously.
In a short while, he finished eating half of the pancake.
After eating, he couldn't help licking his lips and stared straight at the half piece of cake in Zhang Defu's hand.
"You really are the reincarnation of a starving ghost!"
Zhang Defu said this unhappily, but still broke off another half piece for him.
Zhang Erxi ate most of the cake by himself and finally felt less hungry. He asked Bai Xiaowei for a quilt and fell asleep on the floor.
Poor Zhang Defu didn't eat enough, and Bai Xiaowei didn't even get to eat a single bite. She was cold and hungry, and she hated the second wife's family even more.
Zhao Chunhua and the others had no idea what the eldest wife was thinking and were eating with gusto.
The noodles tasted average and were a little choking for Zhao Chunhua, but in the cold wind, drinking a bowl of hot soup was really comfortable.
As she drank, she thought about how to get the wheat out of the space, and also had to get rid of the half pig quickly.
Her eyes swept across the thin bodies of the family, finally stopping on the pregnant Xie Lanqin.
Seeing Xie Lanqin, who looked pale and thin, Zhao Chunhua frowned.
I wonder if being so thin will have any impact on the baby?
"mother……
What are you looking at?
Xie Lanqin felt uncomfortable, she protected her stomach with her hands and asked nervously.
