Chapter 97: Snack

Chapter 97: Snack

The entire bamboo basket is circular in structure and is tightly fixed at the edges with thin bamboo wires. The fence is about ten centimeters high, which is both safe and beautiful.

The three stoves that were just completed yesterday are now temporarily stored in the pigpen in the backyard. It is not easy to find a place that is both sheltered and breathable and avoids direct sunlight in this season. After some consideration, we finally think that the pigpen is the most suitable choice.

Therefore, the work of preparing breakfast today still has to rely on the traditional earthen stove in the kitchen.

Zhao Chunhua planned to stew more dishes this time and store them directly in the warehouse after they were cooked so that they could be easily accessed later.

Thinking back, I was so stupid before. I had to make new recipes for him every time. Even a simple dish had to be prepared many times a day, which was really time-consuming and laborious.

While boiling the water, she had already started washing the soybeans that had been soaked the day before.

After being soaked overnight, the soybeans became plump like little fat men and looked particularly tempting.

The newly purchased stone mill has also been carefully cleaned with clean water and placed aside for use.

This set of grinding equipment looks very simple and ancient. The diameter of the entire chassis is about 30 centimeters, and there is a collection trough about 40 centimeters long at the bottom. The total weight added up to about 30 kilograms.

Such a design is not only convenient for operation, but also very suitable for making fragrant soy milk or smooth flour.

I have a few pounds of pre-processed minced meat stored at home, which is very convenient for making delicious dishes or using it as a seasoning to add flavor. I always try to stock up on enough each time I buy it.

After taking it out of the warehouse and checking it, the minced meat was still fresh and had almost no odor.

The first thing to do after the hot water boils is to fill all the ceramic jars needed for daily drinking; there will be only about half a bowl of water left in the pot.

Next, add a few slices of freshly peeled young ginger to the little remaining moisture, then quickly pour in an appropriate amount of minced meat, sprinkle with some finely blended salt, and a small amount of freshly washed and finely chopped green onions for the final seasoning step.

This not only allows the remaining water to be fully utilized to make a simple but delicious bowl of soup, but also allows most of the unused food to be safely stored back in the warehouse for consumption again when needed in the future.

Today's main food arrangement is to eat the carefully prepared gravy with soft and chewy vermicelli. In order to enhance the flavor, a large spoonful of minced meat is added to ensure that every bite is satisfying.

Of course, while ensuring that the whole family has enough to eat, we will not forget that the beloved dogs at home also need nutritional supplements - the remaining part will be used as a delicious meal for the dogs.

It's not that she intentionally wants them to eat better than humans, although it may not be appropriate to say so, but after all, compared with dogs, she cares more about her human companions.

Once someone has a health crisis or even loses his life, that is the most difficult problem.

Although she knew that the survival rate of infants in ancient times was generally low, she still couldn't help feeling terrified at the thought of tragedy occurring due to negligence.

The child was obviously very satisfied with his breakfast today. While he was happily tasting the specially prepared food in his hand, he also showed from time to time that he wanted to eat more.

Seeing that the child had eaten and started playing again, Zhao Chunhua felt at ease and let him continue playing in the corner of the room. Only then did she remember that she had not had time to enjoy breakfast.

Standing at the kitchen door, she could just see the situation in the front yard. Goudan was quietly staying where she could see him.

There was only a small bowl of beans, and it didn't take too much time to grind the soy milk with a stone mill.

After grinding, the water used to clean the stone mill still contains some white residue, which indicates that there is still some soy milk left that has not been completely squeezed out. Zhao Chunhua then poured the water containing tiny soy milk ingredients into the pot, trying not to waste any food.

Next, she slowly poured the ground soy milk into the preheated pot and adjusted the heat to a moderate low heat for heating.

At this point, the contents of the pot are not the pure soy milk liquid that we drink daily. It still needs to go through several more steps before it can finally take shape.

When the soy milk in the pot gradually starts to bubble up and boil, it is time to filter it.

Zhao Chunhua took out a piece of spotless white gauze and covered it on the colander. In this way, the large particles of bean dregs could be filtered out effectively.

The process felt novel and interesting to her because she had never tried to make homemade soy milk using such a traditional and ancient method before.

After completing the above steps, the clear soy milk is poured back into the pot and continues to be cooked over low heat. After about ten minutes, a rich aroma overflows, which means that the delicious homemade soy milk can be enjoyed.

This is the first time I use such old-fashioned tools to make soy milk by myself, and I feel the whole process is very interesting.

Although the final product is a little thinner in texture, considering that we are just drinking soy milk today, it doesn't need to be too thick.

This experience also inspired her to store more brine at home for future use.

It is said that with just one pound of soybeans, you can make nearly three pounds of fresh tofu!

Since it is impossible to make money immediately, at least learning how to save money is a very practical life skill.

As for the bean dregs left after filtering, I don’t plan to waste them.

Her original plan was to mix it into chicken feed for the cute little chicks at home.

Although there are actually many other dishes that can use bean dregs as ingredients to create unique flavors, I personally don’t like this kind of dishes, so I have to leave them all as side dishes.

Just as I was about to add food to the container, I was surprised to find that one of the little lives seemed to be sleeping forever and would never wake up.

The other companions around seemed quite active and strong, and some even stepped directly on the body of their deceased companion without realizing it.

So, while carefully caring for and feeding the remaining chicks, she put on gloves and carefully picked out the dead one to avoid cross infection or other problems.

The touch of the corpse showed that its flesh had not completely hardened and cooled, and there were no signs of abnormalities in appearance. It is possible that the corpse died of fright caused by the sudden rain at night.

Anyway, animals cannot use language to express their condition, so we can only speculate the cause of their death based on limited information, and it is likely that this is the case.
