113 Falling down the hillside
◎ "I don't have to take off your clothes..."◎
Everything happened so fast, leaving no time to react. Ye Yunzhao was falling, screaming. Chen Jingshan suddenly rushed over and hugged her, but yellow mud mixed with rainwater splashed everywhere, breaking three or four surrounding trees in succession.
He turned over and hugged Ye Yunzhao tightly. The two of them fell to the ground with a "clang". The hard stones hit his back and Chen Jingshan let out a muffled groan. Ye Yunzhao had no time to pay attention to these. The two of them rolled down the hillside like a spinning waterwheel, bumping and rubbing against each other.
After an unknown amount of time, Ye Yunzhao woke up from the unbearable pain. She opened her eyes in a daze, and saw a dark sky. Raindrops as big as beans hit her body mercilessly.
Still alive.
She felt relieved and tried her best to shake her hands and feet. After repeatedly confirming that there were no broken bones, Ye Yunzhao finally stood up with great effort. The bag on his back was still there, but his raincoat and hat had been thrown away long ago. He was completely soaked.
She suddenly remembered that before she fell down the hillside, Chen Jingshan rushed over and hugged her. Ye Yunzhao immediately shouted towards the empty valley: "Chen Jingshan——"
When she turned around to check, she was surprised to find a person lying on a huge rock not far away.
"Chen Jingshan!" Ye Yunzhao dragged his body in extreme pain and ran towards the boulder.
He collapsed on the boulder. Like her, his straw hat and raincoat were long gone. Furthermore, Chen Jingshan's clothes were tattered by the scrapes of branches and rocks. His face was pale. Ye Yunzhao raised his hand and gently shook him twice, but he didn't wake up. A thin, glaring red streak flowed from his body.
She was startled and didn't care about anything else. She quickly helped him sit up.
There was a four-inch long wound on Chen Jingshan's back, with muscles turned outward. The area around the wound had been soaked by rain and had no blood. Only the center of the wound still had some color, and the red could not be ignored on the extremely pale back.
There was a loud thunder above her head, and Ye Yunzhao's hands were shaking violently. She didn't know how long she had been unconscious, and she couldn't guess how much blood she had lost.
She looked at the endless mountains. If he was not treated in time, he might get tetanus and die. The more Ye Yunzhao thought about it, the more scared he became. His eyes were red and it was hard to tell whether it was rain or tears on his face. His voice seemed to be stuck in his throat: "Are you a fool... Why did you rush over to save me..."
After saying that, she raised her hand to wipe away the tears in front of her eyes. The rain was heavy and God would not allow her to continue crying. She had to find a place to shelter from the rain.
She tried to support Chen Jingshan, but the height difference between them was too big, and the exhausted man falling on her was like a mountain pressing down on her.
Just as they were helped up, one of them lost his balance and the two fell onto the boulder again.
Ye Yunzhao was angry and anxious, tears streaming down her face like an endless curtain of pearls. She hung the bag that was in the way around her neck, rolled over the boulder, and with the force of the boulder, desperately pulled one of Chen Jingshan's arms to sit up. Her neck twisted, and she hurriedly clamped his arm tightly, then struggled to rub the other arm against her back, and with a strong pull, she began to walk, half carrying, half dragging herself.
The valley was deep and filled with strangely shaped rocks. Ye Yunzhao, drenched in the heavy rain, strained to look up. To the east was a hillside, but a large section was missing, and the soil, mixed with the torrential rain, had washed into the valley floor. To the west was a stone wall stretching as far as the eye could see. Although there was no river at the bottom of the valley, the underside of the wall looked as if it had been eroded by a flood, creating a strange phenomenon of convexity on the top and concavity on the bottom.
Ye Yunzhao didn't have the energy to analyze these things. The concave stone wall was just a convenient place for the two of them to shelter from the rain. She stumbled towards that place. It was only about thirty to fifty meters away, but carrying Chen Jingshan on her back, it took her a whole incense stick of time to walk there.
She staggered and leaned him against the stone wall, then suddenly lost her strength and nearly fell to the ground. Ye Yunzhao looked at him breathlessly, took seven or eight deep breaths, and quickly calmed down.
Although this place can shelter from wind and rain, but if it gets dark... She leaned out and looked. The sky was gloomy. She had to move to another place before night fell!
The stone wall is right next to the valley bottom. If any wild beast comes out, the two of them will have nowhere to escape or avoid.
Ye Yunzhao's mind was churning rapidly. Where to change to! Where to change to?
She frowned and bit her lip, standing there racking her brains. Suddenly, Ye Yunzhao's mind lit up. She remembered that when she was in the county school, Teacher Wanjun once told the children the story of hunters. It mentioned that hunters who lived in the mountains would build wooden houses for resting, while hunters who occasionally went into the mountains would look for a stone cave, which could shelter them from wind and rain and store dry firewood for making fire.
She squatted down and looked at Chen Jingshan, who was still unconscious, with tears in her eyes. She secretly squeezed his hand, but the hand that was previously extremely hot was cold and hard. She choked and said, "Wait for me."
After saying that, Ye Yunzhao once again rushed into the storm.
She ran wildly along the stone wall, stumbling and running for more than half an hour, but she didn't see a cave.
Ye Yunzhao was on the verge of collapse. She even wanted to look up to the sky and howl, asking God why this happened! The rain was getting heavier, and the wind was blowing through the valley. She was shivering in the rain, but she knew she couldn't stop. Chen Jingshan was still waiting for her.
Just when she was about to give up, she suddenly discovered a very strange green vine growing at a corner of the stone wall.
Ye Yunzhao felt a faint sense of anticipation and immediately looked around, searching for the path leading up to that spot. He then walked another thirty to fifty meters and found a stone path about one person wide on one side of the cliff. Due to the heavy rain, many parts of the path were slippery and difficult to walk on.
Fortunately, the stone path widened as she walked along, revealing numerous man-made grooves carved into the stone walls. Ye Yunzhao gazed at these grooves, holding onto them tightly with both hands, a surge of anticipation welling up in her heart. Didn't traces of human intervention mean someone had been here before, perhaps even lived here? She climbed higher and higher until she reached the strange vines.
Although she had made full preparations in her heart, her hands still trembled as she pushed aside the vines, and a hole more than three feet wide was suddenly exposed in front of her eyes.
Ye Yunzhao could not hide his joy and immediately bent down and walked in. Once inside the cave, the view suddenly became clear. It was two meters high and four or five meters deep.
There was no one in the cave, but there were signs of people living there. In the center was a fire that had been extinguished. She squatted down and put her hand in to feel around. There was no warmth at all, so it seemed like someone had left a long time ago.
What surprised Ye Yunzhao the most was that there was a bed made of straw in one corner of the cave. Although it could not keep out the cold, it was better than letting Chen Jingshan lie on the rocks. In the other corner, there were many branches and several tree trunks for unknown purposes.
The more she looked, the more satisfied she became. She threw the bag hanging around her neck to the ground and hurried out to carry Chen Jingshan on her back.
After about an hour, the vines were pushed aside by a white hand, and two people fell in like drowned rats.
In fact, the place where the two of them took shelter from the rain was not too far from here, but Ye Yunzhao had already run out of strength. Fortunately, he carried and dragged Chen Jingshan into the cave.
He was still unconscious. Ye Yunzhao didn't care about resting and dragged him inside, panting heavily. Seeing that his brocade boots had been worn out, she muttered to herself: "I'm... I'm sorry... I, I... really... I have no strength left..."
Only after he was placed on the stone next to the straw mat did Ye Yunzhao breathe a sigh of relief. He then realized that he was cold. His clothes, soaked by the rain, clung tightly to his body, and he shivered continuously at the slightest breeze.
She had no time to rest, so she quickly got up and opened the bag on the ground. She found a thin bamboo tube from a pile of miscellaneous things. She opened it with trembling hands and blew gently, and a tiny flame ignited in the bamboo tube.
Ye Yunzhao quickly covered it, feeling relieved. Fortunately, the fire starter hadn't gotten wet. Fire was truly more precious than money to the two of them at this moment.
She took a lot of dry branches left in the cave and piled them a little closer to Chen Jingshan. She broke a handful of straw, shakily started a fire, and stuffed it into the pile of branches.
The quiet cave was soon lit by fire, and the crackling sound of straw gradually calmed her heart.
After the branches were removed, Ye Yunzhao could see the true form of the tree trunks. It was not quite right to call them trunks. They looked more like branches as thick as a woman's forearm. The four branches were slightly crossed and carefully tied with hemp rope, with a thinner and longer branch placed on top.
She looked down and saw a tiny speck of blood on the corner of the branch. Ye Yunzhao was surprised and delighted: this should be something hunters use to hang animal skins, but now it is just right for drying their wet clothes.
She quickly placed the branch rack on the other side of the fire. After determining the distance, she had time to focus her attention on Chen Jingshan.
She remembered that she met Xue Niang before she went out, and she had given her two bottles of medicine powder. She hurriedly searched in her bag. One small porcelain bottle was broken and the medicine powder inside was scattered. The other one was fortunately wrapped in Ye Yunzhao's old clothes and had faint cracks on it. When she opened it, it was still full of medicine powder.
Chen Jingshan's clothes were very wet. If she sprinkled the water directly on the wound, it would probably be contaminated by the rain. She put the small porcelain bottle aside and pretended to take off his clothes.
As her slender white hands reached Chen Jingshan's neck, Ye Yunzhao paused: as a modern person, she had seen countless male bloggers with bare upper bodies shaking their waists and showing their back muscles in front of the camera on social software, and she was no longer surprised.
but--
Ye Yunzhao stared at the unconscious Chen Jingshan with an embarrassed look on his face. Isn't it said that men and women should not touch each other? Would the ancient people insist on marrying anyone else if he took off their clothes?
She seemed to have thought of something, and her whole body trembled suddenly. She immediately came back to her senses and kept muttering to herself, not knowing whether she was trying to convince herself or brainwash Chen Jingshan:
"I don't have to take off your clothes...it's you who's injured, and taking off your clothes makes it easier to apply medicine.
Besides, you must be uncomfortable wearing wet clothes, I will never look or touch you carelessly, I, Ye Yunzhao, am a person with nothing to say..."
As she spoke, her hands tremblingly reached towards his waist. The fire was burning behind her, and the warm light cast their shadows on the cave wall in front of them. Ye Yunzhao blushed, and felt as if he was "teasing" a decent woman.
