Chapter 14 The First Cut

"Well, my wife asked me to move here!"

Xu Da left this sentence and left.

Tang Youyou curled the corner of his mouth, what an honest farmer.

"Brother Xu, thank you!"

Xu Da paused. Oh my god, had this Widow Tang really changed her gender? She was actually talking to him? She had lived next door to him for three years. If it weren't for that quarrel with his wife, he would have thought she was mute.

There was a bustling bustle of activity here, and there were also surprises and delights on the other side.

"What? Dad, you said that eldest brother is not dead?" Bai Laoer screamed.

"Why are you so loud?" the old man scolded.

"Where has he been all these years? Why doesn't he come home?"

The old man touched his red and swollen cheeks and took a breath of cold air. Those two old guys were really cruel.

He took out a silver note from his sleeve and shook it.

Bai Laoer swallowed his saliva. When his grandfather was still alive, he taught the three of them how to read. Naturally, he could see the denomination of the silver note clearly. It was one hundred taels of silver.

"Dad, this was given by my eldest brother? Is he back?"

The old man nodded and said, "He asked someone to bring her back. He said he would bring his new bride home in a few days and asked us to tidy up the house."

"A new bride? Is that why Dad was so anxious to divorce that Tang today?"

The old man glanced at his second son approvingly: "That's right. The letter also said that they should hide them first. I guess this bride must be of a special status."

"But now our house is in such a dilapidated state, what can we do?"

"We can continue to repair it. The most urgent thing is to wait for the third brother to file the divorce agreement and the severance agreement!"

Bai Lao Er rubbed his hands together, revealing a greedy look in his eyes. "Dad, can you please cut some meat for me? My chest hurts today, and you and Mom are also injured. We both need some nourishment."

"Why are you in such a hurry? I'm warning you, don't let your family know about this. Your mother is a big mouth, and your third brother is a gambler."

"Dad, don't worry. It's a pity for our ten acres of good farmland. Third brother is really a jerk. Why did he go gambling? He had to sell the farmland to pay the money. Our house is in such a state. We even got beaten..."

An idea germinated in the old man's mind. He didn't know what was happening to the eldest son now. The third son's family was lazy. The second son's wife was quite hardworking, but she injured her right hand. The family was torn apart. It would be better to split it up.

He took out a tael of silver from his sleeve and handed it to him: "Go to the butcher Zhang in the village and buy two pounds of meat!"

Bai Lao Er took it with both hands with some joy: "Thank you, Dad!"

"Give me back the remaining silver!"

He pursed his lips but didn't refute.

Just when I got there, I ran into Bai Ruoer, who was also buying meat.

"Hey! Isn't this a white lion? Can it eat meat?"

Bai Ruoer said nothing, took the meat handed to her by Butcher Zhang and was about to leave.

Bai Lao Er grabbed his arm and said, "I'm talking to you, little brat, are you deaf?"

"Dang, dang, dang!" Butcher Zhang's two knives crossed each other.

"Bai Hanrong, you want to cause trouble at my stall?"

Hearing this, he loosened his grip and glared at Bai Ruoer: "You little bastard, just wait for me, or you'll have something to worry about!"

Bai Ruoer clenched her fists, endured the attack, and quickly left.

Butcher Zhang was disgusted: "Will you buy it or not? If not, get out of here!"

"Cut five pounds of fat!"

"there is none left!"

"Don't you still have that?"

"I saved the food for myself, why should I care?"

Bai Laoer's eyes widened: "Can your family eat five kilograms of meat?"

Butcher Zhang rolled his eyes and said, "What do you care about me? Can't I keep it to make lard?"

He went to Guangming County to set up a stall every day and would only bring back the leftovers. As the weather got hotter, the amount of meat left became more and more.

But he just didn't want to sell it to this guy. What was the big deal about a family bullying a widow?

His mother was also a widow, and it was not easy for her to raise him and his brothers alone. He also heard about what happened yesterday. If killing was not illegal, he would definitely kill the old man Bai's family without hesitation. It was so hateful.

Bai Laoer could only buy some lean meat.

"Exactly five pounds, ninety cents. I'll give you nine cents and ten cents."

Bai Lao Er's eyes widened: "Did you calculate wrongly?"

Butcher Zhang glared at him and said, "I've been selling meat for over ten years. How could I have made a mistake?"

"Lean meat is sixteen cents a pound, and fat meat is eighteen cents a pound. You calculated it as the price of fat meat."

Butcher Zhang grinned and said, "I'm afraid you haven't bought meat in a long time. The price of meat has already gone up. It's up to you whether you want to buy it or not!"

As he was about to snatch the meat back, Bai Laoer quickly took it away and ran away.

"Bah! I hope you and your family choke to death while eating meat!"

Yao Cuihua came out and said angrily, "How did you become a profiteer?"

Butcher Zhang didn't take it seriously: "Wife, in the future, when their family comes to buy meat, they will pay this price. I just can't stand them bullying an orphan and a widow."

Yao Cuihua frowned slightly. "Oh! Poor little bastards! Yeah, I'll just give him a two-cent raise and make him mad to death!"

Bai Ruo'er returned home and handed the copper coins to Tang Youyou: "Mom, pork is eighteen cents a pound, and Butcher Zhang also gave me two pig shanks."

Tang Youyou nodded and took out eight copper coins from the cloth bag: "Go to your neighbor Aunt Yu's house and buy some radishes and vegetables."

Bai Ruoer left happily.

"Wow, it's meat, Mom, can we eat meat today?"

Bai Ruosi swallowed and wondered what this meat tasted like.

Tang Youyou pulled him to the kitchen. When he saw the meat, his eyes widened. How could this be meat? This was all fat. Silly boy, why didn't he buy some lean meat?

She had no idea that farmers in ancient times could only eat meat a few times a year, and she had never bought meat before. She had no idea that lean meat was cheaper than fat, that spare ribs were the same price as fat, and that no one bought pig offal.
