Chapter 12

Amid thick fog and in a deep forest dappled with time, a young scholar as graceful as a winding mountain and river walked out from the darkness holding a lantern.

He lowered his eyebrows and smiled slightly. His elegant temperament, like flowing water and light smoke, actually made the rough guards following Princess Danyang collectively excited.

There is actually no special reason for this ability to attract both men and women.

However, the fact that Yan Erlang could walk in front of them showed that he had broken through the "ghost wall".

Moreover, Yan Erlang is a native of Lingnan. He can probably easily walk out of the deep forest that the princess and her friends cannot get out of.

It was under the excitement of the crowd that Yan Shisheng walked to Mu Wanyao's side. He was not really strolling around, after all, he was just an ordinary scholar.

Under Mu Wanyao's cold gaze, she saw that the scholar who walked up to her appeared very calm, but his lapels, sleeves and hems were stained with a lot of tiny bits of grass.

He walked in the mountains with a grunt, and he didn't look any more relaxed than them!

Mu Wanyao looked at him coldly.

Yan Shisheng stared at her for a moment, then bowed to her:

"I have met Her Royal Highness the Princess!"

Your Highness!

The faces of the people around changed again.

Mu Wanyao also changed. She instantly became wary of Yan Shisheng. She pulled out the dagger she had been holding. As soon as Yan Shisheng finished his ceremony and stood up, he was pushed back two steps, and his neck was pressed against the dagger in the princess's hand.

Guard Fang and the others shouted nervously, "Your Highness!"

If they kill Yan Erlang, no one will lead them out of here!

Mu Wanyao ignored them. She pointed the dagger at Yan Shisheng and asked stiffly, "How do you know I'm a princess?"

The lantern in Yan Shisheng's hand fell to the ground, and the dim, flickering light illuminated the two of them. Mu Wan shook Yan Shisheng and saw his face clearly.

With long eyelashes and fair skin, he was graceful and beautiful, and the firelight illuminated his face, making it look a bit like a mountain ghost with its eerie beauty.

This made Mu Wanyao feel a little dazed for a moment.

He laughed bitterly and sighed, "Your Highness, you don't think that everyone is indifferent to your disappearance for so long, do you?"

The two looked at each other again.

Mu Wanyao was held by his hand, she trembled slightly, and the dagger in her hand was moved away by him. She twitched the corner of her lips, and just pushed the hand he held through her sleeve away, and did not embarrass him anymore.

-----

Yan Shisheng explained that everyone came out to look for the princess, and he was just lucky to find the princess.

All the guards, some carrying the wounded and some hugging the tea trees, came to thank Yan Shisheng, thinking that Yan Shisheng was their savior that night.

As for Mu Wanyao, she was arrogant, her face was pale and her expression was cold. After getting rid of her initial hostility, she didn't even look at Yan Shisheng.

So arrogant.

Yan Shisheng helplessly called out from behind her: "Your Highness, wait a moment!"

Mu Wan's body suddenly felt hot and cold, and her head felt dizzy. She was also feeling a little uncomfortable, and didn't want to waste time chatting with Yan Shisheng. Yan Shisheng stopped her from walking in front of him, and when he walked in front of her, she had no expression.

Beautiful, yet indifferent.

Like a gorgeous rose blooming in front of the abyss of wind and sea, it admires its own beauty and does not boast about its beauty to others.

Yan Shisheng squatted in front of her. Mu Wan took a step back and saw him reach out and pull out a blade of grass that she had stepped on. Not only that, he squatted on the ground and pulled out many grasses around him one by one.

The grass was knee-high, like grass but not grass, like trees but not trees, and its leaves were turning like windmills. No one cared about this kind of grass in the forest, but Yan Shisheng squatted at Mu Wan's feet and pulled them all out without hesitation.

Mu Wan shook her head in surprise: "What are you doing?"

Yan Shisheng replied in a gentle voice: "Soul-confusing grass."

He looked up at her and said, "Didn't the princess say that she encountered a 'ghost wall'? I just thought about it and had a guess in my mind. Now that I see this grass, I know it. This 'soul-confusing grass' can confuse people's minds, making them keep turning around in the same place and unable to get out, but they themselves can't feel it. The so-called 'ghost wall' is most likely caused by them.

"The elders here say that if you encounter 'soul-loving grass' in the wild, you must not take chances. You must chop it down."

Mu Wan was in doubt, and the people behind her were also moved. They didn't expect that there were so many strange things in Lingnan, even a small and ordinary grass could confuse them.

Mu Wanyao stared angrily at the grass pulled up by Yan Shisheng, his face looking grim.

And Yan Shisheng looked up at her and suddenly smiled and said, "We have a legend here that the soul-bewitching grass will only appear when it meets a beautiful woman."

Mu Wan was startled.

He squatted at her feet, his hands stained with dirt, and just looked up at her: "Your Highness must be a peerless beauty, which is why this 'Soul-Loving Grass' is so obsessed with you that it can't bear to leave you and must follow you."

Mu Wanyao's face was originally cold, but after looking at him for a moment, and then listening to him praising her as a beauty, she held back for a long time, but finally couldn't help it and burst out laughing.

And when she smiled, the tense atmosphere among everyone dissipated.

After removing the "Soul-Loving Grass", they set out again and found that they were beginning to get out of the circle of demonic barriers and could get out of here. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that they were saved. It really took a local to lead the way.

At this time, Yan Shisheng was walking in front holding a lantern, followed by the princess, and then the guards.

Everyone was in a good mood.

Mu Wanyao followed behind Yan Shisheng. She watched everyone walk out of the circle that had been spinning around, and her mood became much better. After a moment of relaxation, her physical fatigue took over, and she was so weak that she was about to fall down while following Yan Shisheng.

Mu Wan shook herself and thought to herself that something was wrong, but a hand reached out from the side and supported her hand.

When Mu Wan's hand was touched, she trembled and shrank back.

Yan Shisheng did not withdraw his hand, his palm was still open. Seeing her retreat, his face turned slightly red, but he just lowered his eyes to look at her.

The wild forest was quiet and no one spoke.

The two looked at each other.

Behind them followed the guards who were unaware and curious about why they stopped: "Yan Erlang, Your Highness?"

Mu Wanyao didn't say a word, but she reached out her hand, which was held by Yan Shisheng. Then he slid his hand up her arm and held it. He supported her in this way to prevent her from falling.

The two turned their heads away, each without saying a word, and walked in silence. Only the sweat stains on their hands and their bodies bumping into each other unconsciously due to lack of tacit understanding could reveal the hidden agenda of the two people.

Yan Shisheng looked down at the uneven ground, concentrating deeply.

Muwan raised his eyes, looked at the fog filling the air, and studied it carefully.

The scenery ahead gradually became clear, and they walked out of the fog under the leadership of Yan Shisheng.

Seeing the flickering fire at the foot of the mountain, Mu Wan breathed a sigh of relief. Her eyes were as gentle as a clear lake, and she said lazily, "You dare to touch my hand? You are committing a crime of insubordination."

Yan Shisheng whispered: "I'm saving you."

There was a hint of laughter in her voice: "That's also insubordination."

Yan Shisheng said: "Then wait until it is safe, Your Highness, punish me."

Mu Wanyao smiled and said, "Do you think I'm stupid? You've become my savior. If I say I want to punish you, what will others think of me? Do you think it's easy to be a princess who returns to the country after a marriage?"

Yan Shisheng was stunned for a moment.

He lowered his eyes and said softly, "It is a taboo to talk about deep things with a simple friend. Your Highness should not have said such private things to me."

Mu Wan shook her hand back and grabbed his hand that was holding her. He was so shocked that his body froze, watching her lean over, her beautiful eyes looking down at him, and a wisp of fragrance drifting towards him.

Mu Wan shook his hand and clasped it, smiling: "I want to tell you. Yan Shisheng, don't think about getting away with anything."

Yan Shisheng's eyelashes trembled, not understanding what she meant.

But before he could ask, he saw the princess' body soften and fall into his arms. He was so frightened that the lamp in his hand fell down, and he hurriedly hugged the princess who had fallen down.

He was too hasty and didn't catch her. Instead, he hugged her and fell to the ground with her. Yan Shisheng only had time to hold her shoulders to prevent her from falling to the ground.

Voices came from all around: "Your Highness!"

The fire was bright, and Yan Shisheng looked up and saw that they had already walked out of that desolate place. There were several guards holding lanterns searching below, and when the princess fell, everyone below saw it and hurried over to them.

It was obvious that it was Mu Wanyao who followed Yan Shisheng. Yan Shisheng was concentrating on the road, but Mu Wanyao saw the person who was waiting for her. Only after she saw the person who was waiting for her did she feel relieved and fell down.

The sad thing is that Yan Shisheng died.

Yan Shisheng held her in his arms and sat on the ground, her face pressed against his neck, her breath caressing his Adam's apple. With her warm and soft body in his arms, he was very stiff, feeling helpless at being cheated.

Yan Shisheng: "Your Highness? Do you really want to do this? If you fall down like this, others will think I did something to you. Wouldn't this just cause misunderstanding? Your Highness, where are you feeling unwell? Can you hold on a little longer?"

He shook the girl's arm and urged her to wake up. With so many people surrounding him, Yan Shisheng was extremely nervous.

Princess Danyang, who was sitting on the ground in his arms, leaning against his neck and closing her eyes, curled her lips. The more he shook her, the more she wanted to bully and torment him.

She scolded: "Noisy!"

She pressed her forehead against his Adam's apple, which was burning hot from excitement, and felt a warm breeze on her hair.

There was a smile on her lips, and the last voice she left before she fainted contained a hint of charm and teasing, saying: "I want to torment you. Who told you not to take me to find the location of the white bull tea tree, and let me find it by myself?"

“You deserve it!”

Close to her ear, Yan Shisheng finally said angrily: "I just saved you!"

Of course he could be scheming towards her, but Princess Danyang was of course a willful princess.

Mu Wanyao was in his arms, already unconscious and unable to answer him. Yan Shisheng looked up at the guards who were surrounding him from all directions. He was silent for a while, then he sighed, knowing that he had an explanation.
