Common goal
Despite her excellent painting skills, which greatly helped her achieve her dream, Hao Nan still found it difficult to accept.
As the classroom gradually filled up, Wan Xiaoyi stood on the podium and said, "The Chinese teacher is not here for the first class today. Those who need to memorize, hurry up and memorize. Also, the group leader for the third group has changed to Qi Xu, who is my deskmate. From now on, I will memorize for her."
"Why should they be so unfair!" Many people were indignant, and some were very jealous, such as those who ranked higher.
Especially the girl sitting behind Qi Xu, even if the group leader is to be changed, it shouldn't be her, a freshman, but himself.
Wan Xiaoyi retorted, "If you have a problem with that, go tell the teacher."
After Hao Nan learned that Qi Xu was a good painter, he no longer disliked her. He needed to learn from her painting skills in the future to pursue his dream, so he couldn't afford to ruin their relationship.
Qi Xu couldn't understand what Wan Xiaoyi was thinking either: "Big sister, aren't you just making trouble for me?"
"No, I've seen your entrance exam results, and your Chinese teacher agreed."
The girl behind her suddenly stood up, pointed at her, and said, "Qi Xu, I challenge you!"
"Just because you challenge me, does that mean I have to accept?" She moved the hand she was pointing at down: "Pointing at people is very impolite."
"Why did you get to be the group leader right away? I'm not bad either. In the beginning, the class monitor was ahead of me, and later you, a freshman, were ahead of me. Why?" she said angrily.
Looking at her determined gaze, Qi Xu was reminded of his own past.
She loved drawing as a child, so her father enrolled her in an art class to support her interests. On her first day of class, she received praise from the teacher and became the only contestant in the class.
Later, a girl who was even better than her came along. She was very elegant, looked very well-behaved, and had amazing painting skills.
Everyone's attention was immediately drawn to her.
"Wow, it's so beautiful, even better than Xu Xu's painting."
The teacher couldn't stop praising her. She used to always be first, but now someone else has taken second place.
There was only one spot for her class to participate in the competition, and originally that spot was hers. But now things are different; her arrival has disrupted all her expectations.
To ensure fairness, the teacher arranged for the two students to compete against each other, with the winner being the one who drew the best and fastest.
During the battle, she kept her eyes on her, watching her closely, afraid that she would surpass her, which slowed down her own speed.
This competition spot truly deserves to be given to a student who has only recently arrived.
Some people even compared their own paintings with hers and said a lot of unpleasant things.
"Hey, Qi Xu, why is your drawing so ugly?"
"This painting isn't as good as mine. I don't know how I used to be able to paint so well."
"How can such a terrible painting compare to hers?"
When she reached the third year of junior high school, she realized that people are creatures who admire strength, and her family was no exception.
When relatives come to visit, they always ask how my grades compare to those of their own children.
If a child does well on a test, they will smile and praise, "This child is really promising," but then they will turn around and say to their own child, "Look at him, and then look at you."
If you don't do well on the test, some people will ask under the guise of "concern" if you "didn't study hard enough," while others will pretend to comfort you but actually boast: "My son has made great progress this time. Although he's not as good as you were before, he's finally figured it out."
And then there are the teachers in the school. Those well-behaved children who never cause trouble are often looked down upon by substitute teachers because of their poor or terrible grades.
On the contrary, teachers always favor those children who cause trouble and disobey discipline, regardless of their grades.
Perhaps they think that obedient children are weak-willed, so they use their power to show off their superiority.
Those kids who are always causing trouble are naturally bold and reckless, so people think they are very brave and that even if they don't do well in school, they will definitely not be bullied in society.
She locked herself in her room to pursue her dream of becoming a cartoonist. Sometimes she would watch tutorials on Bilibili and sometimes she would go to the library to learn some basic knowledge.
Of course, her studies could not be neglected. All her plans were carried out in secret, as she did not want to be disturbed and preferred to execute her plans in quiet.
Hao Nan stood up and said, "There must be a reason why the teacher didn't choose you. Don't keep blaming this or that."
Qi Xu stared at this person in shock. This classmate named Hao Nan was really strange. Didn't he hate me when he first arrived? What kind of operation is this?
The girl retorted, "What's it to you?"
"Seven Xu, are you going to fight or not! This is a duel between you and me, so tell your boyfriend to stay away!"
"Who is her boyfriend!"
He's not my boyfriend!
The girl glanced at him and said disdainfully, "Yeah, how could Qi Xu possibly be interested in you?"
Hao Nan was so angry he could fight her; his hands were already clenched into fists: "What do you mean?"
The girl glared at him: "The literal meaning."
Qi Xu stood between the two and said, "Calm down, I accept your challenge."
The girl's attention returned to the competition. She looked at the class monitor and said, "The class monitor will randomly select any question. Whoever answers correctly and quickly wins!"
Qi Xu readily agreed: "No problem, Xiao Yi, feel free to ask."
The class monitor smiled and nodded at her, showing great trust in Qi Xu's abilities.
The two sat together. The girl looked at Qi Xu with wariness in her eyes, while Qi Xu seemed indifferent.
An unexpected duel unfolded in the center of the classroom. The questions covered poetry, English grammar, and mental arithmetic. The two students went back and forth, answering questions at lightning speed, drawing gasps from the surrounding classmates.
Watching this "battle of the gods" between the top students, and then thinking about his own unresolved "Spring River Flower Moon Night," Hao Nan broke out in a cold sweat and quickly slipped back to his seat to bury himself in memorizing it.
Ultimately, in a comprehensive logic problem, Qi Xu was the first to provide a perfect solution with a slight speed advantage.
Actually, she never thought about competing with Qi Xu for the group leader position; she just wanted to see how her new younger sister fared.
Han Xue looked at Qi Xu and smiled, saying, "You're very capable, I concede!"
The students were shocked: "She actually admitted defeat. She's so arrogant, she looks down on everyone, not even the teachers."
"It's because she's too arrogant that I feel like none of the teachers really care about her."
"Even though she was first in the class, the teacher never paid any attention to her or even her position."
Qi Xu didn't understand her behavior and asked, "Why don't you finish the competition?"
"Because there's no need. My name is Han Xue. If you have any math problems you don't understand, you can come and ask me. I'll teach you until you understand."
Qi Xu stopped talking and sat down in his seat to do his own thing.
When the farce ended, everyone returned to their seats.
As soon as Wan Xiaoyi sat down, she was hit from behind with a small bullet made of crumpled paper. She turned around to look behind her.
She turned her head and saw Hao Nan, mouthing, "What?"
He pointed to Qi Xu and said, "Let's change seats."
"Why should I? If you dare to have bad intentions towards her." Wan Xiaoyi drew her hand across her neck, warning him.
Hao Nan picked up his Chinese textbook and pointed to the page about "Spring River Flower Moon Night".
He rolled his eyes, picked up his book, and walked towards his seat.
He kicked his table: "What are you still doing here? Aren't you reciting your lessons?"
He took his book, a slight smile playing on his lips, and ran towards Qi Xu's seat.
She was drawing very carefully.
Hao Nan was so captivated by her paintings that he forgot why he had come here in the first place.
After finishing the drawing, he showed it to Wan Xiaoyi and asked, "How is it?"
Seeing the person next to him, he frowned and said, "Why is it you?"
Hao Nan, feeling a little embarrassed, tentatively asked, "You draw very well, so may I take a look at your paintings?"
Hearing him praise her painting, she put aside her reservations and handed him her sketchbook, saying, "Of course."
"Thank you." He slowly turned the pages, admiring her artwork.
Most of his paintings are group paintings and landscape paintings, and each one resonates with his aesthetic sense.
Qi Xu murmured, "It would be even better if it had color."
"I have one!" Hao Nan ran to his seat and said to Wan Xiaoyi, "Could you move aside?"
She stood up and offered her seat.
He ran back to his seat with his 120 colored pencils, handed them to her, and said, "Use these to color, the effect will definitely be amazing."
Qi Xu was overjoyed, grinning from ear to ear: "Thank you for the colored pencils." She began to color herself.
The two of them together looked very intimate to outsiders.
