Chapter 60 Renovating the Medical Room: A Strange Dream
"Deserting in the face of battle? Pengpeng'an, are you talking about me?" The older official slowly flew out from behind the flower fairy, the usually serious purple-haired flower fairy looking at him with a half-smile.
The young tax officer stared in disbelief, his mouth agape: "Huh?!"
Coming to his senses, Peng Peng'an immediately apologized loudly, but Shu Xin could see the disappointment on his face and hear him mutter under his breath, "I thought you had secretly hidden away! If you neglected your duties, I would be the princess's only full-time official!"
Shu Xin was both amused and exasperated. Well, even the flower fairies weren't textbook examples of kindness and naivety. They had their own little schemes, and quite a few at that!
Without much delay, Shu Xin selected the vacant magic workshop closest to the commoners' residential area and modified the refining and synthesis tables inside.
Shu Xin tried to erase all the magical runes inside the workbench, re-engraved healing and repair magic runes and magic circle diagrams, and then input magic power to activate the magic circle, wanting to see if the magic would work successfully.
A soft magical glow emanated, and healing and restorative magic circles slowly unfolded. The interior space of the circular platform transformed into another dimension. The magic took effect, and the injured flower fairy could receive treatment upon entering the other dimension.
Shu Xin breathed a sigh of relief. White clay is really useful. It has a strong ability to isolate magic, but after magic runes and magic circles are engraved on it, they can still be activated and take effect normally. If magic is compared to electricity, white clay should be an insulator, but it can also be used as a conductor. It's really amazing.
Shu Xin didn't understand, but she was extremely grateful for the magical materials.
Finally, Shu Xin added a drop of magic condensate to the magic circle to maintain its efficient operation. In this way, the original workbench could be used as a powerful medical pod, and the magic workshop was successfully transformed into a medical room.
The magic condensate was extracted from acorns by Shu Xin from the underground warehouse. Although the magic circle would still function normally without the magic condensate, the problem was that it was too inefficient.
If Shu Xin were to cast the spell directly, it would take effect in one minute. However, relying solely on the magic circle would take more than a week. Now, with the addition of magic condensate, this time can be shortened to one or two days.
This would definitely consume a lot of acorns, and considering the wheat fields where the yield was visibly going to decrease, Shu Xin wanted to pinch her philtrum.
To be honest, Shu Xin wasn't even sure if the wheat that had been soaked in the black fog would still be edible after the harvest.
The flower fairies usually use the vast majority of their harvested grains to extract magic to pay taxes, leaving only a small portion for their own consumption. Therefore, this wheat soaked in the black mist should still be edible, since the flower fairies are still alive. But is this wheat truly unaffected by the black mist? The common flower fairies are all smaller than the palm of a hand, and they don't seem to be doing particularly well…
This is really a headache!
Despite her headache, Shu Xin continued working. She transformed the magic workshops closest to the civilian settlement into medical rooms, activated the magic arrays one by one, and handed over the task of arranging for the flower fairies to heal their wounds to her two subordinates. She then continued to renovate the magic workshops.
To ensure there were enough magical medical pods, Shu Xin even went so far as to cut off workbenches from other empty magic workshops and move them into the converted medical rooms.
In the end, Shu Xin transformed the space into fifteen medical rooms, each equipped with six medical pods, for a total of ninety pods. Shu Xin calculated that this should be enough.
Now each injured flower fairy can have their own medical pod. When the harvest month comes, if there are too many injured flower fairies, Shu Xin thought that since flower fairies are small, several flower fairies can squeeze into one medical pod. At that time, she can put more magic condensate into the magic circle so that the healing will not be delayed.
Although the efficiency of the medical room is far inferior to that of Shu Xin's direct spellcasting, Shu Xin still spared no effort in modifying the medical room after careful consideration. After all, she was only one person, but there could be five, ten, fifteen, or even more medical rooms.
As the harvest month draws closer, the number of injured flower fairies will likely increase. Shu Xin herself is not a full-time doctor; she has many other tasks to complete and cannot be on standby to heal the flower fairies at all times.
There are naturally healers among the flower fairies, but unfortunately, there aren't any in the Land of Sin. However, flower fairy healers don't often use healing magic to treat the sick and save lives. The healing and restorative magic that Shu Xin uses to treat flower fairies are actually advanced magic that only flower fairies can easily cast.
The flower fairy healer's common method of healing is to provide magical potions to the injured. The concoction of magical potions is highly dependent on magical talent, just like the crafting of magic wands; without the relevant magical talent, it is very difficult to successfully concoct them.
The commoners that Shu Xin recruited through her servants all possessed magical talents related to refining magic. Even if Shu Xin could transform the magic workshop into a potion workshop, she would have no one to use...
Shu Xin realized once again that magic could bring just as many conveniences as it could impose limitations.
After transforming a large area into a medical room, it was already completely dark. Shu Xin flew back to Flower Castle listlessly, too exhausted to even eat anything.
The magic workshop was too small, and Shu Xin's usual magic wand was too big. In addition, after Shu Xin shrunk, she could not accurately control the output of magic power. She could only squat outside the magic workshop, put her hands in through the doors and windows, and draw the magic runes and magic circles into the workbench little by little. It was really hard work.
During the journey, Shu Xin couldn't stand her low work efficiency, so she went to Nuonuo Li and asked him to contact the flower fairies to urgently forge a magic wand for her.
Because she had previously crafted a special magic wand for the Flower Fairy, this time she only needed to copy it. Shu Xin quickly obtained the small, high-grade magic wand. At this moment, Shu Xin couldn't care less about complaining that the magic wand looked like an ear pick. With the help of the magic wand, she no longer had to draw runes and arrays by hand.
After completing the renovation of fifteen magic workshops as planned, Shu Xin felt like her hands and feet didn't belong to her anymore. If she wasn't worried that falling asleep outside the magic workshops would scare the flower fairies, she would have been too tired to even sleep on the ground!
Forced to fly into the bedroom, Shu Xin climbed into bed and fell asleep immediately.
An endless expanse of white. There is no sky, no earth; as far as the eye can see, there is only mist.
Shu Xin vaguely felt as if she was dreaming?
She floated aimlessly in the air, feeling as if she were just white mist.
Boundless sorrow condensed within her, endless loneliness shaped her. She hated the world with all her might, and cursed everything with all her might, yet she understood with utmost despair and clarity that no matter how much she hated or cursed, what she had lost and what she loved deeply could never be recovered. Only death and betrayal would endure forever!
An unknown force surged sadly and hatefully within the white mist, and a sudden point of darkness appeared. Shu Xin involuntarily drifted towards that bright black spot. As she drew closer, she could see the shape of that black spot clearly—it was a ferocious beast formed from burning black flames.
The behemoth's golden vertical pupils reflected the pure soul that had suddenly appeared in the sea of mist. It opened its massive maw in surprise: "How did you get here?"
Shu Xin stared at it blankly.
The behemoth seemed to understand, and nodded knowingly: "So you were affected by my power. Go back now. Even with the protection of the Creator God, exhausting yourself to the point of your soul leaving your body is excessive. I really don't know what you've done..."
"But you really look like this? Those black eyes and hair make you even more demonic than a demon! I like it; it's much more pleasing to the eye than that shiny, fake fairy!" The giant beast flicked its tail and exhaled a burst of flame in delight. "Go back now; this isn't a place for you."
The terrifyingly dark flames rushed towards her, but Shu Xin felt no burning sensation whatsoever. She woke up from her dream feeling warm and cozy, only remembering that she had a strange dream, but she couldn't recall what it was about.
She patted her face, deciding not to think about it anymore since it was just a dream. She glanced at the still-sleeping lamb and gave it a couple of sharp jabs: "Xi! When are you going to wake up?! Wake up and help me with the work!"
The snow-white lamb rolled over, revealing its soft little belly, and slept even more soundly.
Shu Xin, driven by a wicked impulse, angrily rummaged around, messing up the lamb's soft, fluffy fur before finally letting out a sigh of relief and going out to continue her work.
Faced with the sudden attack of the alien monsters, the flower fairies on patrol performed admirably. Shu Xin wanted to give them some encouragement, so what better reward was there than fragrant, soft, and sweet acorn bread? No! The acorn flour in the underground warehouse was enough for all the flower fairies to enjoy delicious, sweet bread!
Shu Xin went straight to the kitchen, told Mei Meilin who had already started working there about her plans, and then used her magic to create four more large ovens without hesitation. Naturally, the already spacious kitchen was expanded once again.
After spending the entire day yesterday drawing magic runes and arrays, Shu Xin is now incredibly skilled at drawing magic circles. Holding her tiny magic wand, she not only drew magic circles on the kitchen floor, walls, and ceiling to help Mei Mei Lin cook, but also expertly drew magic runes and arrays inside all five ovens.
After activating the magic circles one by one, Shu Xin immediately helped Mei Meilin bake acorn bread.
One tray after another of hot and sweet acorn breads came out of the oven.
