Chapter 192 Magical Greenhouse Moss? Sweet?!

Chapter 192 Magical Greenhouse Moss? Sweet?!

Shu Xin couldn't help but laugh as she watched this scene. She reached into the basket, took out a moss-covered water cake, took a bite, and tasted it.

The moss used to make the water cakes was a new variety brought back by the caravan, but it's unclear which specific type it was. Surprisingly, there are quite a few types of edible moss.

This moss-covered water cake is golden and heavy in my hand, quite a large piece. I guess it's because the demons have big appetites, so the cooks made the cakes extra big. It smells very fresh with an egg aroma. Shu Xin thinks that it must have been made with gray bird eggs. It tastes a lot like a thick omelet. It looks like quite a lot of gray bird eggs were used.

As ground temperatures rise, more and more gray birds are dying from the heat. Shu Xin had previously arranged for people to try and relocate a batch of gray birds to the underground city, but the results were not optimistic. The underground city has no sunlight, and although the gray birds no longer die from the heat, their spirits have become even worse. On the surface, the gray birds' egg-laying rate has already dropped drastically, and since arriving in the underground city, they have stopped laying eggs altogether!

So Shu Xin moved all the breeding areas for the gray birds and snow sheep to the Twin Moon Snowfield. It just so happened that when she was harvesting ice before, she dug a shallow but large pit, and now she could dig a little deeper to make it a ready-made site.

Back in the Land of Sin, the snow sheep farm consumed a tremendous amount of magic power to maintain its freezing magic. It was fine during the Harvest Month, but after the Harvest Month ended, the magic concentration in the air was so low that the beggar fairies felt uncomfortable. Now that they have moved to the Twin Moon Snowfield, not only are the snow sheep lively and energetic, but the magic environment of the farm has also been greatly improved.

As for the Graybird breeding area, after moving to the Twin Moon Snowfield, Shu Xin initially thought of drawing heating magic. However, after consulting the Tree of Life, she found that heating magic did not consume much less magic power than freezing magic. The Twin Moon Snowfield was inhabited by the Snow Clan. Although the Graybird breeding area would not be too large and the magic power consumption would certainly be limited, Shu Xin still felt that doing so was not a good idea.

Shu Xin then thought of the flints. After instructing her servants to collect all the flints from the Land of Sin, she rolled up her sleeves and began to work.

Bring the flint to the initial breeding area on the Twin Moon Snowfield. First, evenly spread a layer of ground-bound grass with magical insulation effect at the selected location for the Greybird breeding farm. Then, spread the flint on the grass. After spreading the flint evenly, spread a thick layer of sand on the floor made of flint and grass. The ground is now ready.

The four sides of the gray bird breeding area are first built with thick ice walls made of ice blocks. Next to the ice walls, a mixture of lake mud from the underground lake, berry wood chips, and a small amount of lycopodium juice is used to build another thick wall. Then, plant leather made of snow dragon fruit branches is stretched on the wall surface to ensure that the gaps between the leather and the wall are filled with lycopodium leaves. The wall is then completed.

As for the ceiling, it was made of plant leather with floating runes drawn on it. Shu Xin even sent Xi to the Snow Clan to exchange for a lot of snow dragon fruit branches so that more layers of plant leather could be laid on the ceiling. Naturally, the gaps between the leather were filled with ground grass leaves that could isolate magic. Then, several holes were made in the plant leather and grass fruit glass was inlaid to serve as skylights to receive sunlight. The ceiling was then finished.

Place a few more wooden planks painted with levitation runes and small heating magic circles in mid-air to act as additional heaters, and the magical greenhouse specially designed for the gray birds will be complete.

Although it was still very rudimentary, the effect was quite good. The new flower fairy was able to provide magic to the flint. After the gray birds were transferred over, the supply of gray bird eggs finally returned to normal. Otherwise, the cooks would not have been able to make pancakes similar to thick omelets.

Shu Xin took another bite of the moss-covered flatbread, chewed it a couple of times, and swallowed it. The cooks probably called it a "water flatbread" because of its moist texture. The taste wasn't bad, just sweet, and it got sweeter the more you chewed. Shu Xin still preferred egg pancakes with a bit of saltiness; she couldn't appreciate this kind of cloyingly sweet, thick egg pancake...

However, the demons and flower fairies who love sweets would definitely love it. Shu Xin glanced at Black Feet, who was eating the moss water cake with gusto, and even wanted to break the cake in her hand to him—this cake was too big!

Finally, Shu Xin found Xi and sincerely shared the pancake with him. Xi happily ate the pancake clean. Shu Xin promised him that once he led the team to rescue the city lord of Lotte City, she would fulfill her previous promise and give him the "reward" that she hadn't given him yet.

After the demons set off with their sweet and juicy moss water cakes, Shu Xin instantly felt that the whole world was much quieter. She wasn't as busy anymore, as the process of guiding the disaster victims was already quite mature. Before long, Shu Xin saw some newly arrived flower fairies appearing in the dungeon to tend to the moss fields and mushroom fields. She then strolled over to the kitchen and curiously watched how the moss water cakes were made.

The cooks used two types of moss as ingredients. One was grayish-green, which the flower fairies simply called grayish moss. The other was a mix of light red and light yellow, and was called red and yellow moss. Neither of them sounded very appetizing...

There were also many flower fairy slaves helping in the kitchen. Shu Xin saw these slaves waving magic wands and casting crushing magic on the harvested and cleaned moss. Although the names were not very appealing, both types of moss were indeed edible and had a high water content. After being crushed, they turned into a pulpy substance.

Pour the egg liquid from the gray bird's egg into the moss paste in a 1:1 ratio, stir well, add a small amount of magic powder, salt powder, and MSG powder for seasoning, stir well again, and then you can steam it directly in a pot. Once steamed, the moist and sweet moss cakes are ready. If you are feeding them to demons, use a larger container and cut them into large pieces. If you are feeding them to flower fairies, use a smaller container and cut them into thinner pieces.

The whole process is incredibly simple, and there's no added sugar!

Shu Xin was shocked. When she tasted it and thought it was very sweet, she was actually wondering why the cooks had suddenly been willing to add powdered sugar.

Although the caravans had been bringing back thornberries and brownberries, the drought had worsened, and the flower fairies outside were even running out of acorns, let alone other fruits. The sugar reserves in the Sinful Lands were only decreasing, not increasing. The cooks wouldn't normally use sugar in large quantities at this time, but Shu Xin thought that the demons had indeed expanded their territory through recent battles, and the flower fairies probably felt they deserved credit for their efforts, even if they didn't achieve great things. Since they were about to embark on a long journey, and she herself didn't like sweets, the cooks used more sugar.

Is love like the natural sweetness of moss? But moss, sweet?!

-----------------------

The author says: I did a search and found that there are actually quite a few edible mosses, such as Iceland moss, stone moss, honeysuckle moss, angiosperm, and mini moss, which is quite interesting! Gray moss is based on Iceland moss, and red and yellow moss is based on stone moss. As for the sweetness of mosses, I used erythritol as a reference.

I haven't been writing much lately because I'm thinking about the later plot. I'll be back to normal next month!
