Chapter 102: Even in Human Form, We Are Still Demons
The murky magic that rushed towards her was filled with poisonous gas. Xi snorted unhappily, but ended up igniting the poisonous fog in front of her. The black flames ignited without wind and grew larger and larger. Frustrated, Xi slapped her tail to disperse the flames and growled in a low voice.
The deep roar of the beast, though not particularly loud, reverberated like thunder, echoing through every corner of the wasteland.
Looking up at the blood-red full moon hanging high in the deep purple sky, and then looking around, Xi saw familiar stone peaks everywhere. The piles of white bones at the foot of the peaks had increased rather than decreased. The sparse plants growing on the stone surface were still just pale white lichen. Even though it was a place where she had lived for more than a hundred years, Xi felt a little unfamiliar with it.
Compared to the Flower Fairy's "Land of Sin," the Poisonous Fog Wasteland is the real Land of Sin. Countless hybrids, abandoned and hunted yet still tenaciously surviving, gather on this naturally misty land. They hide in the stone forest, conceal themselves in the swamp, and conceal themselves in the fog, gnawing on lichen, licking mud, and tearing at each other's blood and flesh, exhausting themselves but doing their best to survive.
Xi lay down on the spot, impatiently swishing its tail and tapping the ground, taking a bite of the lichen on the nearby stone pillar, chewing as it waited.
Not long after, rustling sounds came from all directions. Xi didn't even lift her eyelids: "I knew you'd be the first one here, Blackfoot. Transform into human form like this."
The gray-blue mist flowing in the air coalesced into the slender and tall figure of a young girl. Her smooth, drooping pointed ears revealed her elven identity, and her long, flowing hair that reached her ankles made her look exceptionally beautiful. The antennae on her head and the wings of light on her back directly indicated that her prototype was none other than the flower fairy, Shu Xin.
The demons that surrounded the fiery behemoth from all directions had arthropod-like bodies. Their long, slender, worm-like bodies almost encircled the behemoth. The creatures that emerged and moved were also multi-legged and jet black. Trailing behind was a huge tail covered in scales that was several times thicker than the body. The triangular head that stretched out in front of the girl's phantom to examine it closely was covered with long, sharp thorns while also covering its eyes.
Lifting her eyelids to glance at the black feet, Xi Xin thought that if Shu Xin saw such a mixed-race person, she definitely wouldn't be able to say the word "cute".
Watching Blackfoot's form begin to twist and change, Xi shifted her gaze uninterestedly to the sky: "Blue Horn, you transform into human form too. Look, follow this."
A demon with a lizard-like body slowly descended from the sky, folding its outstretched eagle wings. Its lion's head, with three deep blue horns and a thick mane, turned towards the girl's phantom: "Is this the hybrid you saw in the material plane?"
Xi wagged her tail, her tone quite cheerful: "Of course not, she is my master, and also the Demon King I must follow."
Nodding, Bluehorn shifted his form as he continued to inquire: "If I follow her, will I get enough to eat?"
"Of course! As long as you fight for her!" Xi said decisively, then lowered his head dejectedly. "If she can't do it, I'll kill her and destroy this awful world."
"I thought..." A deafening roar came from afar, interrupting Lan Jiao's words.
Xi rested her chin on her front leg and lazily called out, "Mountain, over here, transform into this human form."
The giant creature that burst out of the ground looked like a huge hedgehog at first glance, but upon closer inspection, one could see that the needles covering its body were actually venomous snakes with their tongues out and their eyes closed, and the tail trailing behind it was an astonishingly long raven tail feather. And the five dog heads peeking out at the girl's phantom were...
"Where is this mixed-race person from? She looks so strange," the shortest head muttered in commentary.
Xi looked over, displeased.
The largest head turned and bit down hard, severing the dog's mouth that kept spouting nonsense. Amidst splattering blood, it growled viciously: "If you can't speak, then shut up!"
The other heads nearby licked the blood splattered on their faces and laughed loudly:
[Hahaha, it's clearly you who looks weird, okay!]
[Bite his face and his neck off too! I've had enough of him! A new head can't possibly be dumber than him!]
[Hahaha, why doesn't he ever learn his lesson! It smells so good! Shan! Give me his mouth, I'm hungry!]
The head, now with a new mouth, shrank its neck, looking even shorter. It kept its mouth tightly shut, yet still mumbled indistinctly: "...You're the idiot...The new one...is also me...I'm hungry too..."
Bluehorn, unfazed, continued what he hadn't finished saying: "I thought you would become the Demon King. Xi, the old Demon King is still looking for you. You killed all his offspring; he wants you to inherit the throne."
Xi twitched her ears, finding it utterly boring: "They wanted to kill me, so why would I obediently wait to be killed? Now that they don't want to kill me anymore, am I supposed to just listen to them? As for the throne, hah, I've only survived this long because I'm a half-blood, and now they want me to wash away all that power just for a fake crown that anyone can wear? Do I look stupid?"
Blackfoot, now in human form, clumsily fiddled with his arms and legs. Hearing Xi's question, he honestly replied, "You're not stupid, Xi. You're the smartest one among us."
Xi glanced at Black Feet, unsurprised to see that his human form was completely unrelated to Shu Xin's illusion. He disdainfully patted the ground with his tail: "Too ugly! It's an eyesore! I gave you such a beautiful flower fairy to transform into, how did you manage to create so many arms and legs? And your eyes! There can only be two eyes on your head! Two!"
Bluehorn turned to look at Blackfoot, and after a moment of silence, he couldn't help but speak: "Put away your tail and spikes, Blackfoot."
"Mountain! A humanoid can only have one head! One!" Xi raised her voice impatiently.
Seeing the blue corner in the blink of an eye, Xi Xin's anger subsided somewhat.
The human form that Blue Horn transformed into was quite perfect. He had long, flowing golden-brown hair, and his strong, upright body was covered with a layer of scales that gleamed with a cold metallic light. His red and blue heterochromatic eyes were extremely deep, and his appearance was also extremely handsome and aggressive.
But when Xi's gaze fell on the three dark blue horns on the other person's forehead, he was still somewhat speechless: "Do you really have to keep those horns?"
Nodding, Bluehorn said earnestly, "I understand what you mean, Xi, but we are ultimately demons, and we must be distinguished from your master's kin."
"Same race? What same race?" Blackfoot asked curiously. "Can I eat it?"
Shan quickly chimed in, "I want some too!"
"Eat, eat, eat! What are you eating?!" Xi roared, leaping up and angrily spewing out a mouthful of flames.
