Chapter 83 Acorn Pudding: Survive
After a day of training, Bebelo flew to the civilian settlement, said goodbye to her teammates, and landed in the open space in front of her own straw hut.
Although she was physically exhausted, Bebelo was in a very good mood. Her teammates were casting defensive magic a little faster than yesterday. If they could keep it up, their chances of surviving the Harvest Month should be even greater, right?
Back in her hometown, Bebelo, crippled from fighting monsters from another continent, could only lie helplessly in her cold, damp hut. Because she was blind and couldn't tell directions, Bebelo easily got lost, and every time she flew out of her house, she needed the help of her neighbors to get back home. Whether it was working in the fields or foraging for food, things that used to be easy became incredibly difficult after she went blind. And the most painful and tormenting thing of all was not anything else, but simply surviving.
Upon arriving in the Land of Sin, when signing up for the patrol team and fighting against the monsters from the outer continent, Bebelo still trained and fought with the thought of dying for the Land of Sin. Bebelo couldn't understand the Flower Fairy's emphasis on defensive magic and defensive shields. In her opinion, wouldn't it be better to use the time spent casting defensive shields to cast more offensive magic and more powerfully drive away the monsters from the outer continent?
Beibeiluo was not afraid of getting hurt or dying, but she was willing to obey the orders of the Flower Fairy. So she led her teammates to practice again and again how to release the magic defense shield faster and better. However, in real battles, accidents always happen. The moment her defense shield failed and broke, Beibeiluo was already prepared to die in the black mist.
To Bebelo's surprise, a defensive shield quickly appeared around her, a powerful and sturdy shield that only slowly dissipated after the battle was completely over. Her past experience of blindness had made Bebelo's perception of auras incredibly sharp. She had never sensed such a powerful magical aura from any other flower fairy, not even noble figures could emanate such a vast fluctuation of magic.
Therefore, it was the noble and divine Flower Fairy who saved her, who was just an ordinary commoner.
What Bebelo didn't expect was that all the wounded patrol soldiers would be sent into the magic circle and properly treated. Even though she only had some minor injuries, she was properly placed in the medical room—which was even meticulously renovated by the Flower Fairy herself, sparing no expense in using a lot of magic.
So, the safety of ordinary flower fairies is such an important and urgent matter to the Flower Fairy?
Beibeiluo still couldn't understand, but she could sense that the Flower Fairy's expectations for the flower fairies, at least for the patrol team members, were not to fight bravely and die, but to live.
In a world where death can strike at any moment, survival is no easy feat. But in this land of sin, under the guidance and protection of the Flower Fairy, survival shouldn't be so difficult...
Seeing the door open, Beibeiluo laughed and raised her voice, "Mom? You're back? Look what I brought!"
After the Flower Fairy built triangular straw huts for the common people, she also kindly allowed the servants and their families to live together. After finishing her day's work, Ya Ya Lian returned home a little earlier than Bei Bei Luo. She saw her daughter holding a bowl outside the window and quickly greeted her with a smile, "Come in quickly, I also brought some good things!"
Beibeiluo practically ran into the house: "Mom, our team got first place again today! Look, this is a dessert that the Flower Fairy gave us as a reward. She said it's called acorn pudding. I've never heard of it before, but it smells sweet and must be delicious!"
“Acorn pudding? I’ve never heard of it before,” Yaya Lian said with some emotion. “Before coming to the Land of Sin, I had no idea that bitter and astringent acorns could be made into so many delicious foods.”
Holding up the wooden bowl of acorn pudding like a precious treasure, Beibeiluo couldn't wait: "Mommy, Mommy, let's try it together!"
The acorn pudding in the wooden bowl was cut into small square pieces. Its color was a warm reddish-brown, and it looked very translucent under the light. It was incredibly soft despite being solid. At this moment, it was trembling and shaking in the wooden bowl because of Beibeiluo's movements, just like solidified water. Yaya Lian could not imagine its taste at all, but just by taking a light sniff, her breath was filled with a light yet distinct sweet aroma.
"Is this really made from acorns?" Yaya Lian couldn't help but ask.
Bebelo nodded vigorously: "It's called Acorn Pudding, Mom! Just like acorn bread! Although I have a hard time imagining how it's made, it's not like I've never eaten acorns before..."
"Mommy, try this!" Beibeiluo gently pinched a piece of acorn pudding, not daring to use any force, and quickly held it to Yaya Lian's lips: "By the Goddess of Flowers, it's so soft, I feel like I'm going to crush it, Mommy, Mommy! Open your mouth!"
"Hmm—" Ya Ya Lian tasted it carefully, "It is indeed made of acorns."
This dessert, called acorn pudding, has an incredibly delicate and smooth texture. It's so soft that it almost slides down your throat, yet it has a rich and mellow flavor when you chew it. You can only smell a very faint sweetness, but once you taste it, you can taste the unique fragrance of acorns.
Beibei Luo also picked up a piece and put it in her mouth. She squinted her eyes happily and said, "Mmm—delicious! It would be even better if it were sweeter!"
Ya Ya Lian couldn't help but laugh: "I also think it would taste even better if it were a little sweeter. Mom is full." Pushing away the acorn pudding that Bei Bei Luo was offering her again, Ya Ya Lian gestured for her daughter to look behind her, "Look, Bei Bei Luo! This is what the Flower Fairy taught us to make!"
Bebelo actually saw it as soon as she entered the house. After placing the acorn pudding on the table, she walked over curiously and reached out to touch the thick, chubby cushion that had appeared on the straw bed: "Wow! It's so soft, Mom!"
"It's filled with broken flower petals, so it's light and soft," Ya Ya Lian explained. "The Flower Fairy said that the petals of the ground-attached grass are very easy to break. This mattress will become softer and softer the more you sleep on it, and the petals that are filled in will become finer and finer. So she told us servants to take the mattress and sleep with our families for a couple of days to see if any broken petals leak out. If they do, we'll have to make some changes. But if there are no problems, we'll teach everyone how to make this mattress."
Ya Ya Lian also walked over, reached out and touched the soft petal mattress, and whispered, "In the heart of the Flower Fairy, every flower fairy is held..."
“We also have the Flower Fairy in our hearts!” Beibeiluo said earnestly. She thought that not only her, but every member of the patrol team was willing to give their lives to protect the evil land and guard the Flower Fairy. However, if the Flower Fairy wanted them all to live well, then they would have to work even harder.
She threw herself onto the bed and rolled over:
"Ah, that feels so good!"
So comfortable!
Shu Xin lay on the soft, fragrant petal mattress and let out a dreamy sigh. She turned over and stroked the fluffy little lamb, then turned over again and stroked the fluffy little black cat. The joy of having one on each side was truly wonderful!
