Jiang Wu got out of the car and happened to see this scene. He walked over and said irritably, "What are you looking at! Get inside right now!"
Gan Wei glared at Jiang Wu, let out a "humph" through her pretty nose, and then led the four children she brought into the cafeteria.
Jiang Wu didn't mind and said to Wu Ming, who was standing beside him maintaining vigilance, "Wu..."
After saying just one word, Jiang Wu glanced at Wu Ming, then at Gan Wei's back, and realized that Wu Ming had been staring blankly at Gan Wei's back the whole time.
This is the first time I've seen Wu Ming lose his composure like this; it's quite interesting.
Jiang Wu walked over and patted Wu Ming on the shoulder, chuckling, "Wu Ming, I never thought you'd be staring at women one day."
Wu Ming snapped out of his daze, quickly stood up straight, saluted, and said, "No, Chief, I just saw an acquaintance."
Jiang Wu's gossip instincts kicked in, and he asked with a grin, "That silly white... policewoman, do you know her?"
Seeing that he was back to his usual self and preparing to give a report, Jiang Wu scolded, "Cao, don't be so serious with me, be casual!"
Wu Ming said, "She was my senior at the police academy. I know her, but she doesn't know me."
Jiang Wu's eyes lit up, and he said, "So you're her secret admirer!"
Wu Ming blushed, a rare occurrence for him, and shook his head, saying, "Chief, I've only heard a lot about her deeds."
Seeing the obvious distrust in Jiang Wu's eyes, Wu Ming finally couldn't hold back and said awkwardly, "I did have a crush on her for the first two years after I enrolled..."
Jiang Wu patted Wu Ming on the shoulder and said with a smile, "There's nothing shameful about having a crush. Besides, you're just fine as you are. Don't always have such a long face."
Wu Ming could only nod.
Jiang Wu gave Wu Ming a meaningful smile and was just about to walk into the cafeteria.
Wu Ming suddenly said from behind, "Chief, as far as I know, Gan Wei is a very loving and kind girl who also likes to help others. She often volunteered at orphanages during her university years. She could have gone to the provincial department after graduation, but she volunteered to stay at the grassroots level."
Jiang Wu stopped and turned around, asking casually, "Does she often volunteer at the orphanage?"
Wu Ming nodded quickly and said very seriously, "She goes whenever she has time, and sometimes she brings a lot of things with her. From college to work, she has always been like this. Leader, I never lie. Many people in our school know about her and often talk about her."
Jiang Wu fell silent, recalling how the four children had always followed Gan Wei closely.
"Alright, I understand," Jiang Wu said calmly, then slowly walked into the cafeteria.
Wu Ming took a deep breath. For the first time since joining the manor, he took the initiative to speak well of someone else.
It was as if by some strange twist of fate.
The prison's canteen was huge, with hundreds of four-person tables and chairs that were connected together, and it was covered in dust.
Dried bloodstains were visible everywhere in the canteen, along with torn clothing, human bones, and numerous bullet casings. However, the guns and other equipment had likely been collected by the field team members.
The rows of tables near the entrance had been cleaned up and were now set with stainless steel plates and chopsticks.
The dozens of survivors sat there quietly.
However, from their constant swallowing, Jiang Wu knew that they must be drooling over the food displayed not far away.
Several large stainless steel serving dishes were placed on the two rows of tables next to it, each filled with food.
Jiang Wu went over and saw a dish of stir-fried dried bamboo shoots with cured pork, an egg and seaweed soup, a dish of stir-fried eggs with pickled chili peppers, and a dish of stir-fried cabbage with vinegar.
Jiang Wu was somewhat surprised to see those cabbages.
Even our own mountain villa doesn't have many of these, so it seems we must have found quite a few well-preserved cabbages here, otherwise the team members definitely wouldn't have been willing to make so many.
Three large buckets were filled with rice, and team members were carrying rice out from the kitchen.
"Where's the little fish?" Jiang Wu asked Sheng Huaiqiang, who was guarding the food.
"Miss Su is guarding the armory alone!"
Jiang Wu nodded and said, "Let everyone eat. Pack me a few meals, I'll take them to the armory to eat with Xiaoyu."
"Yes, Chief!" Sheng Huaiqiang saluted.
Jiang Wu glanced at the survivors who were sitting down. Diagonally opposite him, the short-haired policewoman Gan Wei was whispering something to four other children, with a smile on her face.
The four children listened attentively, occasionally bursting into laughter.
Is this a joke?
So damn leisurely.
Seemingly noticing that Jiang Wu was looking at her, Gan Wei raised her head and glared at him again.
Jiang Wu's lips twitched. This naive girl, is she crazy? Has she never been beaten down by society? How dare she talk to the boss like this?
He quickly looked away and happened to see the ten-year-old girl he had rescued from Cai Qiang.
She was staring blankly at herself.
Jiang Wu smiled at her, raised an eyebrow, and winked.
He actually wanted to make a funny face, but he wasn't very good at it and could only make faces.
Sure enough, it wasn't funny at all.
The little girl still didn't react at all.
Sheng Huaiqiang prepared the meal quickly, handing five metal lunchboxes in a plastic bag to Jiang Wu and saying, "Chief, yours and Miss Su's are ready!"
Jiang Wu nodded, picked up the plastic bag, waved goodbye to the little girl, and then turned and left the cafeteria.
He didn't notice that the little girl's lips curved slightly upward the moment he turned around.
"Everyone, let's begin our meal! The chief said you've been starving for too long, so just eat until you're about 80% full for the first meal! Don't worry, you'll be able to eat your fill at every meal from now on if you follow us!"
