The boy surnamed Li took out a bottle of water and a piece of rag from the side.
Pour cold water onto the rag to cool down his younger brother physically.
Watching his actions, Jiang Wu whispered a few words to Su Ziyu.
Su Ziyu smiled and said, "Don't worry, Brother Wu, I have a good memory and I won't get lost."
After saying that, Su Ziyu left the shack and ran quickly toward the lakeside campsite.
Jiang Wu looked at Tang Jia and asked, "We've just entered this base and don't know the situation. We heard they only give you one or two meters a day. Is that really enough to survive?"
Tang Jia sighed and said, "At least there's still a grain of rice left. We can cook it into porridge and fill our stomachs. Even if it's tough, what can we do?"
Jiang Wu thought for a moment and continued to ask, "As far as I know, those forces have at least several thousand tons of grain in their hands. Haven't you ever thought that so many people would fight together to fight for their own interests?"
Tang Jia shook her head and said with a wry smile, "Brother, it's the end of the world now. Powerful people are lawless. If you dare to resist, there's only one consequence: death. Everyone who's survived this long has seized every opportunity to live. No one would joke with their own life."
"Don't underestimate a meter or two a day; it's a chance to survive. If you're lucky one day and become a new human, you'll go from a crow to a phoenix!"
Jiang Wu asked casually, "A force has infiltrated the base today. What's your opinion on that force?"
Tang Jia said dismissively, "That's something for their superiors to consider; it has nothing to do with us."
Suddenly, Tang Jia asked in a low voice, "Big brother, are you one of the new forces from today? I've never seen you dressed like this in the base before."
Jiang Wu nodded.
Tang Jia's eyes lit up, and she whispered, "Brother, do you need anyone? I can do anything, I'm good at laundry and cooking."
Jiang Wu said casually, "Aren't you in that kind of business? Why are you thinking about doing laundry and cooking?"
Tang Jia was silent for more than ten seconds before she sighed and said, "If we weren't forced to, who would want to do that? Before the apocalypse, I was a fat man weighing 140 pounds. Now, I'm afraid I've almost lost 90 pounds."
Jiang Wu glanced at the fire that had already been lit in the small stove by the wall and casually asked, "I think you're quite pretty, why don't you find a man?"
Tang Jia gritted her teeth and said, "It happened before, but he not only took his anger out on me, but also made me work as a prostitute. He would take most of the money I earned. If I hadn't been lucky enough to meet a few good men and have someone to rely on, that guy would have continued to exploit me!"
After thinking for a moment, Jiang Wu asked, "Is there any unified organization in this so-called safe zone? Are those forces closely connected to you?"
Tang Jia thought for a while and said, "Brother, as you know, I'm in that kind of business, so I know a lot of people and talk to them a lot. The organization you mentioned definitely doesn't exist in the safe zone. Moreover, those big powers don't allow gangs to form here in the safe zone. If there's any sign of it, someone will come and kill you. At most, the neighbors can help each other out."
"For example, here, because we are close to the No. 3 public toilet, the people in the safe zone call our area the No. 3 public toilet area. Generally, we can look out for each other and not be bullied by people from other areas. However, when it comes to food and work, it all depends on the individual."
"As for the connections between those forces you mentioned and us, there is almost no contact. It's like we're from two different worlds. The only place where we interact relatively often is the market in the open space between the core area and the safe zone."
“In that market, you can exchange what you need. Also, outside the market, there are often job postings from the core area, but those job postings are mostly for male workers. Even if they recruit women, they are just for playthings.”
At this point, Tang Jia glanced at the boy surnamed Li and sighed, "Li Qingxuan's mother was just thinking of going to work in the core area, but she died."
Jiang Wu glanced at Li Qingxuan.
He was holding a small bag and carefully pouring rice into the tin can on the stove.
Looking at that small bag, there's probably only about two ounces of rice left inside.
It's possible that he heard Tang Jia mention his mother.
Li Qingxuan's eyes were a little red, and it seemed that tears would well up at any moment.
However, Jiang Wu noticed that Li Qingxuan bit his lower lip.
His eyes quickly regained their clarity.
After pouring out the rice, Li Qingxuan picked up a snail and placed it on a large pebble on the ground.
He picked up another stone and started smashing it with a "bang bang bang".
Tang Jia was taken aback when she saw this.
He quickly said, "Young Li, you're not going to feed these snails to your brother again, are you? Listen to my advice, your brother's condition isn't good enough with just nutritional supplements. Even if you give him medicine, it would take at least dozens of pills, and that's assuming the medicine is effective. You'd be better off exchanging these snails for food and making sure you survive!"
Unfortunately, Li Qingxuan pretended not to hear and continued to smash the hard snail shell.
Jiang Wu asked calmly, "He went to the lake to collect snails, all for his brother?"
Tang Jia sighed and said, "Yes, no matter how we try to persuade him, we can't stop him. Last time he went to the lake with some people from the neighborhood, he was almost snatched away by a giant bird. He was trembling all over when he came back that day. I didn't expect that only two days later, he would run to the lake again."
Looking at the two large snails, Tang Jia sighed, "We were lucky this time, managing to bring back two snails. But this can't go on. The lakeside is becoming increasingly dangerous. In the past month, more and more people have been dying."
Jiang Wu thought to himself, if he hadn't happened to be there today, Li Qingxuan would probably be in grave danger.
