Chapter 789 Holy crap! Mechs?!

Wang Tiefeng noticed Jiang Wu's gaze, smiled, and whispered, "Did you recognize those two actresses? In this world, it's a miracle if an unarmed person can survive. In this base, who cares what you did before?"

"If you have talent, connections, or good looks and are willing to lower yourself, you can find a way to make a living. These two are now the pillars of the 'Fire Phoenix Dance Troupe,' and ordinary people would have to pay a lot of money to hire them for drinks..."

On stage, the dance grew increasingly passionate.

The girls wore alluring smiles, while the crowd below roared with laughter, screams, and cheers, immersing the entire bar in a carnival atmosphere.

Alcohol, music, dance, violence, beauty... all these elements are mixed together to create an incredibly vivid, incredibly real, and bizarre apocalyptic panorama.

Living a life of debauchery and decadence.

Jiang Wu looked at the dancers' hot moves on stage and smiled slightly, "You guys here know how to have fun more than I imagined."

Just then, Lin Xiao walked over carrying a tray of wine.

Hearing Jiang Wu's words, she smiled and said, "Sir, if you like, you can come and visit us more often."

After she finished speaking, she handed Jiang Wu a glass of light blue liquor.

"This is our local specialty, Snow Velvet Honey Wine, which is also a favorite of our boss, 'Fire Phoenix'."

Jiang Wu didn't stand on ceremony and drank the wine in one gulp.

A spicy yet uniquely mellow flavor rushes into the throat, followed by an indescribable and complex aftertaste.

After that, there was a sweet aftertaste that lingered in my memory.

Jiang Wu smiled slightly and looked at Lin Xiao meaningfully, saying, "Nice wine, nice bar, nice waiter. It's a pity I have to hurry back to the base, otherwise I could stay here a little longer."

Lin Xiao glanced at the white bone handle slung behind her back, extending beyond Jiang Wu's shoulders, and asked curiously, "Sir, are you from somewhere else?"

Jiang Wu nodded and calmly said, "Yes, from southern Hunan."

Lin Xiao was stunned.

If this wasn't a joke, then the man before them was utterly unfathomable.

After all, it's over a thousand kilometers from southern Hunan to here!

Even before the disaster, it would take several hours to travel by high-speed rail.

In today's world, traveling between the two places would be extremely difficult.

Wang Tiefeng was slightly taken aback and couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Bai, aren't you planning to stay here for a few more days? There are many other things in our base that you haven't seen before."

Based on that mutated giant bird that could travel more than a thousand kilometers at will, Wang Tiefeng wished Jiang Wu would make this place his main base from now on.

After all, such a mutated giant bird mount would be extremely useful.

Moreover, Wang Tiefeng could tell that Jiang Wu was a good person.

In particular, the kindness that unconsciously shines in Jiang Wu's eyes when he looks at some children is something that can't be faked.

Jiang Wu smiled and said, "I will come again. Our base is planning something big, and they need me to go back."

The next second, he stood up and said, "Alright, we've had our drinks and watched the dance. Colonel Wang, shall we go explore somewhere else?"

“Of course, Mr. Bai, please.” Wang Tiefeng also stood up.

The two said goodbye to the enthusiastic Lin Xiao, left the noisy bar, and returned to the somewhat deserted street.

The afterglow of the setting sun shone through the thin clouds, casting a pale golden hue over the mountaintop city.

As Wang Tiefeng walked, he continued to introduce the facilities along the way and some information about the Dragon Base.

Jiang Wu listened casually, but his eyes were keenly scanning everything around him, constantly assessing the potential of the base and the resources available to him.

As they passed a courtyard with a sign that read "Energy and Machinery Research and Development Department," a dull, rhythmic "bang...bang...bang..." sound caught Jiang Wu's attention.

The sound didn't resemble ordinary mechanical work; it sounded more like the movement of some incredibly heavy behemoth.

He stopped in his tracks, curious, and looked in the direction from which the sound came.

From a small alley next to the courtyard, a huge figure was seen walking out, step by step!

It was actually a humanoid robot that was over five meters tall, over four meters wide at the shoulders, and looked rather short and stout!

Its main body is made of rusty and re-welded steel plates, with a rough shape and a violent aesthetic full of heavy industry.

The thick hydraulic rods act as joints, producing a loud noise and a hissing sound of steam jets when they move.

Its arms are exceptionally thick and long, with a huge engineering bucket mounted on one end and an exaggerated hydraulic breaker on the other.

Its head is a simple watchtower structure with several cameras mounted on it to act as eyes.

This punk-style steel giant caused the ground to tremble slightly with every step it took, attracting the attention of passersby, who seemed to be used to it, simply smiling and shaking their heads as they walked around it.

"Clang... Clang..." The robot walked clumsily but resolutely to a building with a sign that read "Materials Warehouse" and finally stopped.

Immediately afterwards, a pneumatic sound rang out, and the robot's thick chest armor opened downwards, forming a staircase!

A middle-aged man with messy, unkempt hair, a stubble beard, thick glasses, and oil-stained overalls emerged from inside, cursing, "Damn it! The power's gone again! This damn battery! If only I could make a nuclear battery..."

Jiang Wu was dumbfounded.

Holy crap!

Mechs?!

Although it looks rough and simple, it is indeed a real humanoid mobile armor!

Although it is still far from the high-tech mecha he imagined, it is already a science fiction concept in this post-apocalyptic setting!

Seeing Jiang Wu's shocked expression, Wang Tiefeng couldn't help but laugh and explained, "That's Engineer Chen, we all call him Crazy Chen. He's the most famous mechanical fanatic in the base, I think he used to do some kind of robot research."

His tone carried a hint of helplessness and irony: "He firmly believed that only by creating bigger and stronger war robots could humanity fight against mutated beasts in the future. Unfortunately, the idea was good, but there were a lot of practical problems."

Wang Tiefeng pointed to the robot that was no longer moving: "The biggest problem is energy. Right now we can only use the electric vehicle batteries that were stored before the disaster, and the power is simply not enough. The smaller robots in his workshop can still run for an hour or two."

"This kind of huge machine that can be operated by a person sitting inside will break down in less than an hour after being fully charged. If you want to make an even larger one, it will probably stop moving after ten minutes. It's just a showpiece."

"And the materials," Wang Tiefeng continued to complain. "They're all made of ordinary steel, which is fine for dealing with ordinary zombies, but when they encounter stronger mutated beasts and zombies, their claws are harder than alloys, and they can tear this kind of mecha to shreds in one go."

"It's costly and impractical, so the base didn't really support him. They just let him do whatever he wanted, as a way to... preserve a spark."
