Sheng Lingtian did not answer, but instead pushed open the door and walked into the inner room.
Chu was sitting on the headboard, flipping through a book in her hand. When she heard the door open, she looked up at Sheng Lingtian.
Her long, black hair was casually draped over her shoulders, and her face was still somewhat pale because she had just given birth a few days ago.
But it only accentuates her broken beauty.
Upon seeing Chu Shi like this, Sheng Lingtian's gloomy expression softened somewhat...
"General! What brings you here?"
Chu looked at Sheng Lingtian, her gaze unchanged from usual, still gentle and tender...
"Did you do the things at Xiyuan?"
Sheng Lingtian got straight to the point and asked.
"Huh?" Madam Chu was taken aback. "What is it?"
Chu pretended to be stupid...
Sheng Lingtian stepped forward, grasped Chu's arms, stared intently at her face, and said in a low, hoarse voice, "Whether you did it or not, I'm warning you, don't lay a finger on Mu Rou'er! Don't lay a hand on her! Otherwise, I won't be able to save your life!"
Chu stared at Sheng Lingtian for a moment, then smiled.
"Heh... General! You really intend to save my life? Shouldn't you be hoping for the early demise of my four children and me, so you can make room for your beloved and her offspring?"
"What did you say?"
Sheng Lingtian narrowed his eyes, his gaze deep and unfathomable...
Chu's smile remained unchanged, but it was now tinged with profound sorrow.
"General, we've known each other for eighteen years. Even if you no longer have feelings for me, could you please not try to kill my mother and her three children? Could you please let us leave?"
Don't worry! I'll take all the children with me, and I definitely won't cause you any trouble!
"Please, General, spare Lan'er!"
As Chu spoke, large tears streamed down her face, making her look truly pitiful.
Looking at Chu Shi like this, Sheng Lingtian reached out to pull her into his arms, but then seemed to remember something and finally lowered his arms.
He frowned deeply:
"What are you saying? When did I ever try to wipe you all out?"
Chu carefully observed Sheng Lingtian's expression and found that he did not seem to be lying.
He immediately understood that Sheng Lingtian had not been involved in the murder of his children.
"General, do you know? The jade pendant that Mu Rou'er gave Wanwan on the day she was born was called the Soul-Locking Jade!"
There was a little ghost sealed inside. If it weren't for the jade Buddha that I had blessed, Wanwan would be gone by now!
And Wenze, your youngest son, almost died yesterday when he was thrown from a runaway carriage.
The carriage had been tampered with. Luckily, Wenze was ill and didn't ride in it, otherwise he would be a corpse by now!
Madam Chu recounted everything that had happened in the past two days, hoping to gauge Sheng Lingtian's attitude. She wanted to know if Sheng Lingtian's thirst for power outweighed the lives of his children.
If he were willing to tell her the truth, and if his father's death had nothing to do with him, perhaps she could give him a chance!
I'd fight alongside him for the sake of the children...
But if he turns a blind eye to this matter, or even condones it, for the sake of power, then she can finally give up completely...
"What...what did you say?"
Sheng Lingtian was stunned upon hearing this, his face turning ashen...
"General, everything I said is true. You know Mu Rou'er better than I do, and you should know whether she is capable of these things!"
General, would you do anything for me, for the children?
Chu looked at Sheng Lingtian with eager eyes, anticipating his promise...
Sheng Lingtian looked at the Chu family with complicated emotions, unsure how to respond.
Mu Rou'er, that woman actually dared to murder his own flesh and blood, he cannot forgive her!
But now he has no choice; he can't touch Mu Rou'er...
Seeing Sheng Lingtian's prolonged silence, Chu felt a chill in her heart.
She closed her eyes, and a tear rolled down her pale face, landing on the back of Sheng Lingtian's hand.
"General, you should go back now! I'm tired! I want to rest..."
Sheng Lingtian looked at Chu Shi's profile and pursed his lips.
He wanted to reach out and touch Chu's face, but ultimately withdrew his hand.
Having chosen this path, there's no turning back.
His attachment to his children will only lead to his utter ruin!
Sheng Lingtian suddenly stood up and walked towards the door...
The night was cool and still. Chu Shi sat on the bed, looking at the empty doorway, her gaze cold yet resolute.
She should give up on this relationship...
Time flies, and in the blink of an eye, it's time for Sheng Wanwan's full moon celebration.
Although Sheng Lingtian didn't care much about Sheng Wanwan, the full moon banquet was still a grand affair.
There's no other reason than this!
Everyone knows that Sheng Lingtian's achievements today are inseparable from the help of the Chu family.
If Sheng Lingtian weren't the son-in-law of the Chu family, and if the Chu family had no one else capable of leading troops besides the disabled Chu Qianhan, then...
The Chu family army will never fall into Sheng Lingtian's hands.
If Sheng Lingtian didn't throw a grand full-moon celebration, rumors of him being ungrateful would surely spread like wildfire...
That would be very detrimental to his career.
Mu Rou'er was aware of this, and thus tacitly approved of Sheng Lingtian's extravagant spending, allowing the Chu family to shine brightly...
At this full moon celebration, Sheng Lingtian specially invited many nobles from the capital.
These prominent families were partly due to Sheng Lingtian, a newly rich man, and partly due to the fact that they were old friends of General Chu when he was alive.
Therefore, Sheng Wanwan's full moon banquet was a gathering of all the celebrities in the capital.
