Chu Wanwan did not step forward, but instead set up a battle formation behind the Eighth Route Army soldiers.
She found eight stones and drew intricate runes on them. These runes shimmered faintly in the night, exuding a mysterious and ancient aura.
Chu Wanwan was setting up a Bagua maze formation, the purpose of which was to enable the Eighth Route Army soldiers to safely withdraw from the position after they ran out of ammunition.
Otherwise, with tens of thousands chasing hundreds, these soldiers would all die here once they ran out of ammunition.
The Eighth Route Army soldiers knew that this mission was very dangerous, but they still carried out the order without hesitation. This spirit of selfless sacrifice was something that the Eighth Route Army soldiers never lacked.
Chu Wanwan placed eight stones around the mountain path in the forest. When the last stone was placed, a blue light invisible to mortals rose from the edge of the Bagua formation, instantly forming a Bagua diagram that enveloped the air.
Chu Wanwan looked at the Bagua diagram and murmured softly, "Although the Spirit-Guiding Brush can also draw spiritual energy to create talismans, the resulting talismans are ultimately weaker."
If I were in my past life, setting up such a low-level formation would have at least trapped the Japanese for a month or two.
If that's the case, the soldiers won't even need to fight; they can just starve to death!
"What a pity! This Bagua Maze Formation can only hold the Japanese for an hour, but that should be enough for us to retreat!"
Chu Wanwan returned to the position because the firepower on her side was too fierce. The road was bordered by a cliff on one side and a steep cliff on the other, making it temporarily impossible for the Japanese to pass.
So they simply stopped charging and instead gathered at a safe distance, waiting for something!
The Eighth Route Army soldiers weren't in a hurry. Their mission was to block the Japanese troops' route to the armory for reinforcements. By not attacking, they were saving a lot of ammunition! They decided to just wait and see...
After an unknown amount of time, the roar of fighter jets came from mid-air.
"Not good! It's an enemy fighter squadron! Retreat!" Chu Wanwan shouted.
"We can't retreat. If we retreat, the main force in the armory definitely hasn't had time to leave yet. If we leave, the main force will be in danger!"
"This is what Xu Hui, the battalion commander of the artillery battalion, said loudly."
"Yes! We can't retreat! We must fight here to the last moment!" Lu Zizhan, the machine gun battalion commander, also shook his head in disagreement.
"What are you going to do here if you don't retreat? Are you just waiting to die?" Chu Wanwan looked at them, her heart filled with anxiety.
She knew that the artillery and machine gun battalions alone could not withstand the enemy's fighter formations. If they didn't retreat in time, everyone here would perish.
“Listen to me,” Chu Wanwan tried her best to calm herself down and express herself in the most convincing way, “Staying here will only lead to death, we must retreat.”
However, retreating doesn't mean abandoning the mission. I've just set up an Eight Trigrams Maze to confuse the enemy. As long as I place this stone down, the maze will trap them for at least two hours. Neither the enemy nor their fighter jets can break through this formation!
Xu Hui and Lu Zizhan exchanged a glance, a hint of hesitation flashing in their eyes.
They knew Chu Wanwan's capabilities, but the fact that she could trap tens of thousands of enemy soldiers with just a few stones was truly beyond their imagination.
Seeing that the two still didn't believe her, Chu Wanwan continued, "I am a son of China, I am a soldier of the Eighth Route Army. If it's not feasible, I will not sacrifice more than 10,000 soldiers for the sake of six or seven hundred of you!"
Chu Wanwan's words made Xu Hui and Lu Zizhan fall into deep thought. Looking into Chu Wanwan's solemn eyes, they sensed her confidence.
"We believe in you!" Xu Hui finally said.
Lu Zizhan nodded in agreement: "Yes, we believe you! Comrade Chu, please tell us what to do."
Chu Wanwan breathed a sigh of relief and looked happily at the two battalion commanders: "You can go directly..."
Just then, a bomb fell from the sky, landing not far from the Eighth Route Army soldiers.
With a deafening "BOOM!", shrapnel from the bomb left several soldiers covered in blood.
Then came the second, the third, the fourth... bombs rained down from the sky one after another.
"Run!" Chu Wanwan shouted.
"withdraw!"
"Retreat immediately!"
The two battalion commanders hurriedly gave orders. The Eighth Route Army soldiers grabbed their machine guns and pushed their cannons as they ran.
However, the mountain road was rugged, and it was impossible to run fast while dragging the cannon.
"Abandon the cannons! As long as we get out of the maze, we can have as many cannons as we want!" Chu Wanwan shouted.
However, for the Eighth Route Army soldiers who had long suffered from a lack of weapons, their weapons were more important than their lives, and they were unwilling to discard them. They simply pushed the cannons and ran as fast as they could. When one soldier fell, another would take over.
Having no other choice, Chu Wanwan quickly placed the stone in her hand at the eye of the Bagua Maze Formation.
Instantly, a beam of azure light burst forth from the stone, rapidly spreading along the previously laid-out rune lines to form a massive azure Bagua diagram, enveloping the entire mountain forest.
After the formation was created, a thick fog immediately rose in the forest. The fighter jets could not see the situation on the forest path and could only bombard it indiscriminately before they had no choice but to return to base.
However, something surprising happened to the Japanese soldiers. No matter how they flew, they could not escape this area. No matter how they tried, the fighter jets kept circling within the coverage of the blue Bagua diagram, as if they were trapped in an invisible maze.
The tens of thousands of Japanese soldiers who followed behind were like ants that had lost their way, wandering around in circles, unable to leave the area.
