"Um," Fang Lan swallowed, "I didn't bring my phone, so I can't add friends."
Xu Chaosheng smiled at Fang Lan, his little tiger teeth peeking out. If Fang Lan didn't know Xu Chaosheng's true nature, he would definitely be completely captivated right now.
Fang Lan felt fortunate that he was no longer the Fang Lan he used to be; he was now Niu Gulu Fang Lan with a god-like perspective.
"Your Class 13 is very strict; you don't allow students to bring cell phones?"
Xu Chaosheng's smile was so charming that it gave Fang Lan goosebumps.
"Yes, yes, our teacher is very strict." Fang Lan looked for a way to get to the restroom.
"But I just saw you playing on your phone in the back of the classroom."
Fang Lan: ...No, is he sick?
"Big brother, what do you want to do?" Fang Lan silently estimated the difference in fighting ability between him and Xu Chaosheng, and figured he should be able to beat him.
Xu Chaosheng took a step forward, and Fang Lan took a step back. Xu Chaosheng raised an eyebrow and continued forward, trapping Fang Lan against the wall.
"Let's be friends. You're so smart, you should understand what I mean, right?" Xu Chaosheng looked down at Fang Lan slightly. Hmm, the height is just right. If he were a little lower, he could kiss her.
Fang Lan shook his head; class was about to start, and he had to slip away.
“We’re kindred spirits, I knew it at first sight.” Xu Chaosheng exuded his charm. “So, give me a chance, junior, it won’t hurt you.”
Fang Lan looked at Xu Chaosheng in disbelief. No, how could she have fallen for him?
"You wanted to be friends with Ruan Ruan before, but now you want to be friends with me?"
Xu Chaosheng thought Fang Lan was jealous. "I just thought the junior was well-behaved and simply wanted to make friends. You're different."
Fang Lan pushed Xu Chaosheng away, saying, "I don't really want to be friends with you. Please find someone else."
Xu Chaosheng was about to say something when the toilet stall suddenly opened, and a boy gave the two of them a strange look. As he left, he muttered, "Too open."
Fang Lan felt incredibly embarrassed and started to walk away. When Xu Chaosheng tried to pull her back, she ran away, yelling, "Don't touch me! I'm warning you!"
Xu Chaosheng stood there stunned for a moment, then chuckled after a long while, "It's quite spicy."
Fang Lan was panting heavily in her seat when Lin Ruanruan, who was engrossed in a math problem, looked up curiously at her.
"Fang Lan, did you secretly participate in the city's marathon?"
Fang Lan fanned herself with her notebook to cool off. "No, I've encountered a mental patient."
Lin Ruanruan looked at him with sympathy, but soon she would feel sorry for herself.
The test began the next day.
Lin Ruanruan excels at Chinese, but math is really difficult for her. She scratches her head and struggles to write down the problems.
After finishing all the exams, Lin Ruanruan was almost unrecognizable; she was utterly exhausted. Like a lost soul, she returned her desk to its place, sat down, and glanced at Fang Lan, who seemed completely unaffected.
She saw Fang Lan's final exam, the humanities section. Fang Lan said she was too lazy to write, but she actually filled it up completely. "Fang Lan, are you a genius?"
Fang Lan looked up from her phone. "I also think I'm a genius."
Lin Ruanruan turned her head away, intending to break off her friendship with Fang Lan for one minute.
Fang Lan was just about to ask Lin Ruanruan to play games with him when he heard his teacher call him and Lin Ruanruan.
"Fang Lan, Lin Ruanruan, come out!"
Lin Ruanruan immediately straightened up from her desk. Could it be that her homeroom teacher discovered that she had drawn little figures on her science exam paper?
Fang Lan wondered to herself, "Did the teacher find out that he was using his phone in class?"
The two exchanged a glance, then hesitantly followed the homeroom teacher to the office. There, the teacher handed them two red pens and the answer key.
"Go, help the teachers grade the papers."
The two breathed a sigh of relief; it turned out they were just helping with grading papers.
The other teachers welcomed them and warmly handed them a large stack of papers to grade.
After the two of them started, the homeroom teacher continued with her lesson preparation and the report that her superiors needed.
There were reasons for choosing these two children. Fang Lan was already a good student and wouldn't do anything underhanded; Lin Ruanruan was honest and straightforward, even less likely to do anything underhanded than Fang Lan.
The two of them didn't finish their task until all three evening classes were over. Lin Ruanruan felt very tired. Exams were tiring enough, and then she had to grade papers. Fang Lan also felt tired. He was supposed to play games with Lin Ruanruan during evening classes. What a waste.
The homeroom teacher rewarded each of them with a lollipop, and the two of them left the school gate together with lollipops in their mouths.
Neither of them knew that Xu Chaosheng had come to the second-year high school class to look for Fang Lan during evening self-study, but at the time, the two of them were busy grading papers.
When Lin Ruanruan returned to the Lin family home, she saw her dear mother picking out clothes, looking very distressed.
"Mom, are you going to a banquet?" Lin Ruanruan ran over and gave Li Shuzhen a big hug.
Li Shuzhen hugged her daughter back, "Ruanruan, you worked hard today. How did the exam go?"
Lin Ruanruan clenched her fist solemnly, "All we can do is try our best and leave the rest to fate!"
Li Shuzhen was amused by her daughter. She didn't expect her daughter to do well on the test; it wouldn't matter if she got a zero.
After all, Ruan Ruan had been mentally challenged for so many years, and Li Shuzhen felt it was a blessing from heaven that she could now return to normal.
She hoped that Ruan Ruan would study because she knew her daughter was timid, introverted, and didn't like talking to people, and wanted her to make more friends.
So far, the results seem pretty good. Ruan Ruan looks much more cheerful and outgoing than before.
"Mom, you still haven't told me why you were so troubled when choosing clothes."
Li Shuzhen also had a headache when she mentioned this, "It's because I received invitations from Ms. Yan Ru and Ms. Huang Min. They're coming to visit tomorrow."
Lin Ruanruan nodded. She didn't know him. "Then good luck, Mom!"
What Lin Ruanruan didn't know was that she not only knew them, but had also eaten with both of them; she just didn't know their names.
