Chapter 10 Black Hand
Chen Kangshu was so frightened that he loosened his grip and rolled to the side.
Chen Kangzhong was a little slow to react. He felt a black screen in front of his eyes and a huge force hit his face.
“Crack!”
With a muffled thud, he flew out like a broken sack, landing heavily on the ground. He subconsciously opened his mouth to scream, but only a series of "ho ho" sounds came out, and a mouthful of blood foam mixed with a few white teeth sprayed out.
For a moment, the whole yard was quiet, with only Chen Kangzhong's painful whimpering on the ground and Chen Kangyun's weak groaning.
Old man Chen stood there with his stick in hand, staring at the scene in amazement.
Feng Lan succeeded in her strike and, without stopping, turned and slammed the bench to the ground, sending up a cloud of dust. She placed one hand on her waist, pointed at everyone in the yard, and shouted, "Family rules? Bah!"
"Whoever wants to use family rules today, first ask the stool in my hand if it agrees! You heartless beasts, why didn't you say we were family when you sucked the blood of our eldest wife? Why didn't you follow the rules when you sold my daughter? And now you have the nerve to bring up family rules with me?"
"I'm telling you, from today on, Feng Lan and Chen Kangbo will no longer recognize your marriage and will not abide by your family rules! Anyone who dares to lay a finger on my husband and daughter again will be carried out of this door sideways!"
She stood there, not tall, but like an insurmountable mountain, firmly shielding Chen Kangbo and the house behind him. The ruthless aura that emerged from a sea of blood and corpses intimidated everyone present.
The atmosphere in the yard froze.
Chen Kangzhong covered his mouth, which was full of holes, and rolled on the ground in pain. He looked at Feng Lan as if he had seen a ghost. Old Chen held the stick in his hand for a long time, but he didn't dare to bring it down again. He looked at his eldest son and daughter-in-law, who looked like two different people, and for the first time, he felt a little scared.
This is no longer a lesson, this is a fight to the death.
Feng Lan's chest heaved violently. After the adrenaline rush wore off, a wave of fear washed over her. But she knew she couldn't retreat now. She and Kang Bo had no way out. Taking a step back would mean falling into an abyss, a repeat of their past life.
Her eyes swept across the various faces of the people in the courtyard, and a single thought became crystal clear in her mind—divide the family! We must separate! We can't stay with these jackals for even a moment longer!
Just as the situation in the courtyard was tense, the scene in the east wing was completely different.
The village barefoot doctor had just examined Chen Kangyun's leg and left, shaking his head. He left with one last thought: "The bones are broken into several pieces and dislocated. I can't fix it here. If you don't want to be a cripple, get yourself taken to the Jishitang in town right away. If you're too late, even a god can't save you."
After sending the doctor away, Mrs. Chen slumped down on the kang, looking at her precious little son's leg, twisted at an odd angle, her heart ached. Her pride, the son she'd hoped would bring honor to the family, was now crippled like this?
The hatred in her heart grew like weeds, and she wished she could cut Chen Kangbo and Feng Lan into pieces.
"Mother..." Chen Kangyun, lying on the kang, was sweating profusely from the pain, his face as pale as paper. He gritted his teeth, his eyes flashing with a sinister glint that didn't match his age. "I can't... just let it go like this..."
He panted heavily and whispered hoarsely into the old lady's ear: "Mom, my eldest brother and his wife are like two mad dogs now, biting whoever they catch. We can't gain the upper hand in a head-on confrontation... But no matter how crazy they are, they also have weaknesses..."
"Daya...Daya is their lifeblood!"
A glimmer of light flashed in the old lady's cloudy eyes.
Seeing this, Chen Kangyun continued to persuade him, "The old bachelor we found last time was too useless. This time... we have to find someone even more ruthless and shameless. Once the matter is settled, we'll see how they can make trouble! By then, they'll have no choice but to accept it in order to cover up their shame. Once the betrothal gift is received, I'll have money to treat my leg. What else can they do to us? They can't really kill us, can they? As long as we don't say anything, who will know it was us?"
These words, like the devil's whisper, instantly ignited the old lady's most vicious thoughts. "Yes! That's it! Let them cry without a place to cry!"
She immediately thought of a notorious widower from a neighboring village named Tian Laosan, who was in his forties, lazy, fond of eating and working, and had never been able to remarry. This kind of person would do anything for money.
The old lady immediately sent her third daughter-in-law to secretly go to the neighboring village to pass on the message.
By evening, the atmosphere in the Chen household was eerie enough to make water drip out of it. Each family ate their own dinner, ignoring each other. Feng Lan deliberately lit the fire herself, cooking meals for herself and her daughters, and even drew water from the well, never touching anyone else's.
After dinner, Feng Lan settled the children and was about to go check on her husband when the old lady of the Chen family walked into Daya's room with a bowl of sugar water and a "kind" look on her face.
"Daya, you were frightened today. Come, drink a bowl of sugar water to calm your nerves. Have a good sleep, and you'll be fine tomorrow."
Daya looked at her grandmother, who was about to push her into the fire, and felt both fear and hatred in her heart, but she still didn't dare to confront her face. She looked towards the door for help, hoping that her mother would come back soon.
The old lady noticed her hesitation and handed the bowl forward, her tone unquestionable: "What? Are you afraid that the sugar water grandma gave you is poisonous? Drink it quickly!"
After Daya trembled and drank half a bowl of sugar water, the old lady took the bowl away with satisfaction and turned to leave. Little did she know that she had put a sufficient amount of drugs in the bowl of water.
Feng Lan returned to the courtyard, still facing the Chen family. She leaned against her doorframe, seemingly relaxed, but in reality, her nerves were tense.
Out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly caught a glimpse of something strange. Her fourth brother, Chen Kangsi, who had been silent the entire time, was now fidgeting, his eyes constantly glancing toward the back door, his expression nervous yet tinged with anticipation.
back door?
Feng Lan's heart sank suddenly, and an ominous premonition instantly gripped her.
