Chapter 31 The Evil Ones Complain First
The official road leading to the county town was covered in dust.
Feng Lan and her group finally arrived at the gate of the county government office near dusk.
The tall, imposing yamen had a vermilion gate inlaid with copper nails. Two majestic stone lions crouched at the entrance, and a plaque reading "A Clear Mirror Hangs High" hung above the lintel. Several yamen runners, armed with water and fire sticks, stood expressionlessly guarding the door, exuding an air of "keep away from strangers."
Old man Chen and the Chen brothers had worked tirelessly all their lives, and had never seen such a scene before.
