Chapter 64 It’s time to take off your skin

Chen Kangbo did not answer, but picked up the shoulder pole still stained with Chen Kangzhong's blood from the corner of the wall, turned around, strode out of the courtyard gate, and went straight to the brightly lit west courtyard.

Tonight, Pingjiang Village is destined to be sleepless.

In the main hall of the west courtyard, the lights were dim and the atmosphere was so depressing that it felt like water could be squeezed out of it.

Old Mrs. Chen sat in the main seat, her face longer than a donkey's, and she was cursing in a foul tone.

"What a damn jinx! What an ungrateful bastard! For a few bucks, he sent his own brother to jail! He's going to wipe out our Chen family! Why doesn't God send down a thunderbolt to kill this evil family!"

Qian sat below her, wiping away her nonexistent tears while adding fuel to the fire: "That's right, mother! Our Kang Zhong is just too naive. He was goaded into a foolish act by that brainless fourth son. But Feng Lan, on the other hand, showed no mercy at all and threw all the dirty water on our Kang Zhong in front of the county magistrate. Now, the principal and the accomplice are both guilty and cannot escape!"

Liu's husband, Chen Kangji, was also arrested. She had lost her backbone and was now slumped on the ground, slapping her thigh and crying out loud: "My husband! You died so unjustly! It was all caused by those damned people! This life is unbearable! How can we, an orphan and a widow, survive!"

She cried hard, but secretly glanced at the silent old man Chen and Chen Kangnian in the corner, obviously wanting them to make a decision.

Chen Kangnian huddled in a corner, his face pale. He could never have imagined that his initial attempt to avenge Feng Lan by encouraging the Liu family to seize the business would lead to this. With his two brothers imprisoned, the entire Chen family felt devastated. He was filled with fear and resentment, yet he dared not utter a single word.

Old Man Chen sat in a chair, leaning on a cane, silent. His cloudy eyes betrayed no emotion, like a dead statue. He gripped the cane so tightly that his knuckles had turned white from the force.

In this gloomy atmosphere, there was a loud "bang" and the already shaky gate of the west courtyard was kicked open by someone.

Chen Kangbo, carrying a shoulder pole, stood at the doorway, facing the moonlight like a demon. His towering figure cast a shadow over everyone in the room. He said nothing, but his bloodshot eyes, like knives, scanned everyone in the room with a cold, piercing gaze.

The crying and cursing in the room suddenly stopped.

"You...what are you doing here?" Qian felt uneasy when she saw him looking at her, so she mustered up the courage to ask.

Chen Kangbo ignored her, took big strides, walked straight to the center of the main hall, and slammed the carrying pole in his hand heavily to the ground!

"Bang!"

That sound seemed to hit everyone's heart.

"Who kicked my door?" he asked, his voice hoarse and cold.

"Who scattered the rice in my house?"

"Who stole my family's money?"

"Who stepped on my daughter's vegetable garden?"

With each question, he took a step forward, the shoulder pole in his hand dragging across the bluestone floor, making a sharp rustling sound. That sound, like a blunt knife cutting flesh, made everyone in the West Courtyard's heart rise to their throat.

"You...what nonsense are you talking about! We don't know!" Liu got up from the ground and shouted in a cowardly manner.

"I don't know?" Chen Kangbo sneered, his eyes shooting straight at her. "The mud on your feet looks quite similar to the mud in my vegetable garden. And your precious son Huzi, did he eat half a pound of sugar cake outside this afternoon? Where did you get the money to buy the sugar cake?"

Liu's face paled. She had indeed taken her son to the vegetable patch in the east courtyard that afternoon, and even took the bag of copper coins to buy snacks for her son. She thought she had done it without anyone noticing, but she hadn't expected Chen Kangbo to reveal it.

"I...I didn't! Don't spit blood on me!"

"Whether you are slandering me or not, we will know after searching!" Before Chen Kangbo finished his words, he rushed to Liu like a gust of wind.

Liu screamed, but before she could dodge, Chen Kangbo grabbed her collar and touched her body with his other hand. He took out a piece of bacon wrapped in a handkerchief from her bulging bosom.

The bacon was the one hanging on the east courtyard wall.

Caught the criminal red-handed.

"Anything else to say?" Chen Kangbo threw the bacon on the ground, and the murderous look in his eyes could no longer be concealed.

"Ah! Murder! Chen Kangbo is going to kill someone!" Liu was so scared that she screamed.

Qian also screamed and wanted to come up to help, but was frightened by Chen Kangbo's cold look and was nailed to the spot, unable to move.

“That’s enough!”

Old man Chen, who had been silent all the time, suddenly slammed the crutch in his hand to the ground, making a loud noise.

He stood up tremblingly and walked to Chen Kangbo. There was a hint of pleading on his wrinkled old face.

"Comber...for Dad's sake, forget it."

"Forget it?" Chen Kangbo looked at this nominal father and found it extremely ridiculous.

"Dad? I only know that my parents died early. I only know that when you drove me out of the house with my wife and children and we were almost freezing to death and starving to death, you were eating delicious food and drinking spicy drinks."

"All I know is that my daughter was repeatedly schemed against and bullied by you guys, and even nearly kidnapped, and not a single one of you stood up and said a single word of justice! Now, you've smashed my house and stolen my things, and you want me to let it go?"

His voice grew louder and louder, every word was tearful and filled with endless grievance and anger.

Old man Chen was speechless after being asked this question. His old face turned purple, his lips trembled, and he couldn't utter a word.

"Today, this matter is not over!"

Chen Kangbo's gaze finally fell on Chen Kangnian, who had been hiding in the corner, trying to disguise himself as air. "Everything is caused by you. Aren't you a scholar? Aren't you the most reasonable? Well, today, I will talk to you about reason!"

He approached Chen Kangnian step by step.

Chen Kangnian was so scared that he stepped back again and again until his back hit the cold wall and he had nowhere to retreat.

"Brother, what...what do you want to do? Hitting people is illegal! I'm a scholar, if you dare to touch me, the government will not let you go!"

"Scholar?" Chen Kangbo smiled, his smile filled with contempt and ridicule. "A scholar who plots against even his own brothers and doesn't even know how to write the word shame? It's time to strip you of your skin!"

As he spoke, he stretched out his big hand like a palm-leaf fan, grabbed Chen Kangnian's collar, and pulled him out from the corner like a chicken.
