Chapter Ninety-Eight: Box Office Champion

"No way!" Just as the young lady was about to pay, the burly man grabbed the man's neck. "Let's eat. Who said you can't eat? Come on, let's have a proper meal."

After saying that, the big man and his girlfriend flanked the man on either side and fed him bite by bite of the roasted meat until he said he couldn't eat anymore.

After the man left, the two prepared to leave as well. The young woman thanked them quietly, then silently ate meat while shedding tears.

Seeing this, Fang Fang silently handed over a tissue.

"Thank you." The young woman suddenly looked up. "Could I treat you to a movie? It's a newly released documentary."

The young woman had two movie tickets beside her, her eyes vacant, lost in thought.

"Sure." Fang Fang hadn't expected such a good thing and readily agreed, grinning from ear to ear.

The young woman burst into laughter through her tears, wiping them away. "The show's about to start, let's go now!"

As soon as Fang Fang stepped into the movie theater, she regretted it. Since it was an afternoon showing and a documentary, she thought the theater wouldn't be very crowded. But when she entered, she saw a huge crowd.

This made her feel a little embarrassed, as she had originally planned to stay with the young lady for a while and then go to sleep. She hadn't expected the tickets to be so popular.

After sitting down, I heard the whispers around me and realized that most of the tickets they had were given away as gifts at shopping mall events. They had come to the movie theater with the mentality that it would be a fool not to take advantage of a good deal.

Fang Fang felt a deep pang of sympathy for the young lady, seriously suspecting that she had offended the Tai Sui (a deity associated with bad luck) today, otherwise how could she have encountered so many unlucky things in one day?

Noticing her gaze, Fang Fang smiled sheepishly, "Actually, these two tickets are a gift. This movie is about trafficked women, and because of what just happened, I really wanted to see it."

"This movie is directed by Director Fu, so I believe the quality is guaranteed." Afraid of upsetting her, the young woman quickly added, "If you don't like it, you don't have to come with me."

Fang Fang shook her head. The movie was about to start, so she leaned close to her ear and whispered, "I've noticed you're having a particularly lucky day, so I have to try and ride on your good fortune."

The young woman was taken aback, then smiled. Yes, she had seen through a man's true colors today and even received free movie tickets. How could that not be considered good luck?

The young woman loosened her grip on the box, which she had been holding tightly in her pocket. She had been dating her boyfriend for three years, and she had originally planned to officially settle down with him today.

She had always hoped to be brave, and now it seems she hasn't disappointed herself at all.

The lights suddenly dimmed, and the film officially began with familiar music.

Fang Fang carefully observed the young lady's expression, and only breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that the young lady's body had relaxed. She originally thought that she would definitely not be able to watch a documentary, especially such a boring one.

Unexpectedly, at the beginning of the film, a middle-aged woman with a strong sense of vitality and a neat and tidy appearance, speaking with a rural accent, shouted the support slogan of the Super Boy Band, which immediately caught her attention.

With someone's overwhelming promotion, it's no exaggeration to say that Super is truly a national boy band. However, when their cheers are shouted out in broken Mandarin under these circumstances, it still feels very out of place.

Fang Fang wanted to keep watching to see what had happened to this person.

The bizarre story she imagined—the old woman being inspired by her idol to rise from the mountains to the pinnacle of life—did not come to pass.

The old lady's story happened too early; the oldest member of the Super Boy group hadn't even been born yet, so no one could give her strength, including spiritual strength.

For a long time, she was in a daze, not knowing what she was doing, but in order to survive, she had to do it mechanically, repeatedly, and endlessly.

The old woman didn't stop what she was doing while telling her story. The director didn't insert any flashback scenes during the process; he simply followed her quietly and became a good listener.

This was enough to make Fang Fang hold her breath and her eyes well up with tears.

Throughout the entire process, the old lady did not deliberately create an atmosphere or try to be sentimental. Her speech was not even very fluent, and she stumbled several times while telling her story. Each time this happened, she would laugh awkwardly.

However, the director still managed to recreate the story through the old woman's narration, thanks to his superb editing skills. In the end, the old woman entered a nursing home.

She stood in the sunset, looking at the people inside the window. Her face suddenly became very serious. The camera swept across their faces one by one, and their faces were filled with blankness and numbness.

Suddenly, someone spotted the old woman. Smiles appeared on their faces, and they excitedly banged on the window, showing off by threading needles through their hands and vying to hand them to the old woman.

The lights suddenly came on, and thunderous applause erupted in the arena.

Fang Fang suddenly came to her senses and realized that her face was already wet with tears. She looked back at the girl next to her and saw that she was the same.

Before they could react, the applause grew even louder, accompanied by huge cheers.

Fang Fang looked closely and saw it was Director Fu, followed by "Mu Xiaozhe—"

The crowd erupted instantly. Since this film was a documentary, only the director was on the roadshow. However, in order to attract more attention, the director specially selected people from the group that sang the end credits song to accompany the film.

The entire Super group was naturally thrilled with this, as getting involved with Director Fu was like having one foot in the film industry. Apart from Sun Hao, most of them were unwilling to spend their entire lives just making music.

That said, after the scene quieted down, Director Fu gave a passionate recounting of his filming process and the emotional changes he experienced during it.

Whether due to insufficient preparation or some other reason, the reporters were not able to arrive on time, but with tears in her eyes, Fang Fang decided that she must promote this movie.

She was not alone in thinking this way, and Fang Fang saw many like-minded people in the camera lens who were crying so hard that their hands were shaking, while struggling to hold up their phones.

Finally, the director and Mu Xiaozhe bowed and left, and of course, Xingyao Company's classic routine—the lucky draw—was also included.

The gloom on the young lady's face had completely vanished. After winning the voucher for ten grams of gold, she sincerely expressed, "I've never had such a good thing in my life, watching a movie for free and getting a gift. I have to promote this movie."

Fang Fang, who won the new phone, secretly made up her mind to use all the money from selling her old phone to buy movie tickets for her colleagues.

But when she got home and opened the ticketing app, she was stunned. The reason was simple: the movie had already topped the box office charts for the New Year's Day holiday.
