Chapter 11 Slapping Gu Yan

The two wet nurses who followed Jingru also heard the words asking Yun Xiangye to be her wife, and they all looked up at Yun Xiangye.

Yun Xiangye stopped in her tracks. She was still wondering why the five noble ladies her cousin mentioned had such precious births. She must have known that Gu Yan already had a wife and daughter, but she was still unwilling to get engaged and wanted to wait for Gu Yan.

At this moment, Yun Xiangye understood that in Wei Xi's heart, neither she nor Gu Yan could be considered a proper couple.

It was true that her marriage to Gu Yan was hasty.

On the day of the wedding, Gu Yan was still seriously ill. There were no matchmaker's words, parents' orders, three letters and six ceremonies, and even the worship of heaven and earth was done in a hurry.

Seeing that Jingru had already lifted the curtain and was about to go in, Yun Xiangye had no choice but to pretend that she didn't hear the words inside and followed Jingru in.

Inside the house, Madam Gu had a very grim expression on her face, but when she saw her little granddaughter coming in, she smiled happily, "Dear, come here and let grandma hold you."

Jingru threw herself into Mrs. Gu's arms.

Mrs. Gu saw Yun Xiangye and Nuonuo coming in and said, "Oh, Nuonuo, what kind of injustice has she suffered? She's crying."

Yun Xiangye said, "Grandma, Gu Yan and I just went to the palace. When Nuonuo woke up, she didn't see her parents, so she started crying."

Mrs. Gu smiled and invited Nuonuo into her arms. "Nuonuo is very pretty and well-behaved, but she seems a little shy."

Yun Xiangye said, "Well, Nuonuo doesn't have many playmates in Yongxing City, and doesn't often leave the house, so she's a bit shy."

Madam Gu smiled and said, "When we get to Chang'an, we can play with her aunt."

Yun Xiangye saw Wei Xi, who was standing next to Madam Gu, looking at her with disdain, but she was not afraid.

Yun Xiangye was no longer annoyed that Gu Yan didn't take her seriously, but she also felt that Gu Yan and the Princess's Mansion would never demote his wife to a concubine.

After all, the eldest princess had handed over the restaurant left by Gu Yan's grandmother to her, and early this morning, the eldest princess also said that she would hand over all the shops in the princess's mansion to her...

What's more, if Gu Yan really wanted to demote her to a concubine, then she would just take Nuonuo back to Jiangnan.

I have been with Gu Yan and his wife for the past three years, just to repay Gu Yan for saving me from the lake.

Mrs. Gu liked the well-behaved Nuonuo even more, so she took a piece of sesame cake from the side and handed it to Nuonuo. Nuonuo then looked at Yun Xiangye.

Yun Xiangye nodded to Nuonuo and said, "Eat it."

Madam Gu stroked Nuonuo's hair and said, "What a sensible child, Xiangye. You have taught Nuonuo very well."

Yun Xiangye glanced at Wei Xi and said, "My husband has taught her well. Nuonuo has always been under your care."

Yun Xiangye seldom called Gu Yan "husband" and did not call him "husband" in public. But in front of this cousin who hoped that she would be divorced and become a concubine, Yun Xiangye deliberately called him "husband".

Sure enough, Wei Xi, who had just looked at her with contempt, was filled with hatred when she heard the word "husband".

As the sky gradually darkened, Yun Xiangye took the two children back to the Garden of Flowers for dinner.

In the dining hall in the front yard of Wanhua Garden, there was already a table full of delicious dishes.

When Yun Xiangye entered, she bowed to Prince Ning and the eldest princess at the top of the table and said, "Father-in-law, mother-in-law."

Seeing that her father-in-law looked very unhappy, Yun Xiangye put down Nuonuo in her arms and planned to stand and serve the princess at mealtime.

Xie Zhixuan smiled and said, "We don't have such a harsh rule in our family to treat our daughters-in-law so harshly. Please sit down and have your meal."

Yun Xiangye then sat next to Gu Yan. She noticed that Gu Yan's expression was not very good, and wondered if he had been scolded.

Yun Xiangye found the meal really boring. Only when Gu Yan stood up did she breathe a sigh of relief.

As Gu Yan carried Nuonuo back to Qingfeng Garden, Yun Xiangye observed Gu Yan's expression and asked, "Did your father scold you? Just now during dinner, I saw that both of you looked unhappy."

Gu Yan said: "My father doesn't like me to bother my mother too much, and he is also dissatisfied with me finding a..."

Gu Yan stopped talking.

Yun Xiangye looked at Gu Yan, "Why don't you continue? Is your father unhappy that you chose a lowly merchant girl from a small town as his daughter-in-law?"

Gu Yan said: "No..."

Yun Xiangye said, "Besides, you and I haven't exchanged the three letters and six ceremonies, so we're not officially married. Even if we were, we could still divorce. If you truly regret rejecting that cousin from the Duke of Wei's mansion as your wife... you can just divorce me and marry her."

Gu Yan frowned and said, "You mentioned divorce again? How many times have you mentioned divorce in just two days? And my cousin from the Duke of Wei's mansion is still unmarried. You can't talk nonsense. This will damage her reputation."

Yun Xiangye snorted. Wei Xi's thoughts were so obvious that she told Madam Gu without hiding the fact that she wanted to make herself her concubine. Gu Yan even spoke up for his cousin.

Yun Xiangye said, "Gu Yan, if you care so much about Cousin Wei's reputation, then just divorce me. After all, there are plenty of people in your family who think I'm not worthy of being your wife."

Gu Yan frowned and said, "Xiangye, you misunderstood. My father didn't dislike your background. He originally thought that after I got married, my wife would be able to take over the internal affairs and interpersonal relationships of the Princess's Mansion, as well as the shops of all sizes at home, so that my mother could have a easier time.

But you've never managed the internal affairs of the mansion, and I'm afraid you're not up to the task of managing all the shops, big and small, in Chang'an City. That's why he's angry that I chose a wife who can't share my mother's worries."

Yun Xiangye frowned and said, "How do you know I can't handle the housework and these shops? You keep saying you don't look down on my background, but you're the one who looks down on me the most!"

"Mother...Father..."
